Why won't my phone send texts in certain towns???

I usually roam off Appalachian wireless cause where I live there is no Verizon. I'm fine with not having 3G all the time, as long as my data, texting and calling actually works. Which...when I'm roaming it always does work. And when I'm in certain towns nearby with Verizon/3G everything works perfect.

But when I go to my boyfriends town which is 2 hours away, but in the same state... I can make calls and use data but texts REFUSE to go through. I've tried everything....tried restarting my phone, taking the battery out and putting it back in, etc. nothing works. There's verizon signal/3G up there so WHY will my texts not send???? I don't want to pay over $100 a month for a piece of crap that won't even work. Can somebody tell me why texting doesn't work in this one 3G area??

And another thing, I have unlimited texting. So texts should go through perfect in any 3G town! I've also heard some people say I can't text my boyfriend because he uses AT&T but we both have unlimited texting so that makes zero sense. Plus, I can text him just fine....as long as I'm not in his town. It just doesn't make sense at all to Me!

Call Verizon and have them straighten it out. I had a similar problem about 3 years ago and it took Verizon and AT&T network technicians to fix it. Had something to do with how my number (originally ported from Cingular/AT&T) was provisioned and how Verizon and AT&T handed off text at a certain point/server. I provided addresses and showed them that the problem did not happen for my son's identical phone.
