Motorola Droid won't send audio via text.

Is everyone else with the Motorola Droid having the same problem with not being able to attach an audio file such as a 20 - 40 sec mp3 or ringtone in text messages? I was told by Verizon today that audio text is a feature the Moto Droid does not support. But the HTC Eris will attack audio off the stock messager. Not I know the Moto Droid will let me record audio and send it but i want to make my own texts with a picture and audio on it. But no option for audio in the attach menu. Found the app Handcent but it's file size limit for audio is so low it's almost useless. Any thoughts, theories, suggestions? :smileyhappy:

*UPDATE* Motorola told me that the Moto Droid is supposed to have the option to attach audio. Back on the phone with verizon now and their Droid simulator has the option but then he went and got a real droid and it did not. :manindifferent: And up a level in tech support I go.

Was just told the new update adds audio tab in attach for text msgs. We shall see how that goes.

Doesn't adding an audio message seems to defeat the purpose of text messaging? I mean, sharing a link to an audio clip it should work. (I wonder why there isn't a YouRadio?) Perhaps you should try using MMS to send the audio clip. (You can't send audio using SMS, BTW.) Other wise send it as an email attachment. Or you can just call the person.

Sorry fellas but it doesn't look like were gonna get to send sound files via text message after all. I got the 2.0.1 update from another site and still don't have the option to add sound files. I can say the phone is faster than it already was but i would have preferred the additional feature. Maybe I got my hands on an update that was incomplete...who knows....

but shouldn't a "smart" phone just do what the user wants it to do? Why does Joe Consumer need to know the difference between sms, mms, or PMS and what app to choose?... If he/she is texting and needs to send a text longer than 160 characters the software should split the message automatically or choose the different protocol automatically, or at least pop up and give the user the choice...... just my opinion.

Ok. I guess i could have been a little more clear. I know that a SMS will not send audio. And according to verizon neither does MMS (well specifically just audio such as mp3, ogg, wav.......). It's called EMS (Enhanced Messaging) and this motorola apparently does not support it. When i got into compose new message (in the stock messaging system) and then hit menu and then hit "Attach" i get 6 options. Video, take video, pic, take pic, record audio, and slideshow. Motorola has told me twice now that there is supposed to be 7 options. There is supposed to be an audio option to attach random sounds or ringtones to texts. The HTC Eris droid phone has this option. So after being on the phone with verizon for 40 minutes they told me that their emulation software (where they can view the phone on a computer and navigate through the options and settings) has all 7 options for attachments on it. But when the tech guy actually went and physically got a moto droid it did not have all 7 attach options. It only had the 6 that I have (and i assume everyone else). So somewhere between motorola and me this option has disappeared but it is on every other phone i have ever seen. Hell my simple little LG flip phone will send audio files around 1 minute long. And i cant seem to get an answer from either verizon or motorola as to why this feature isnt on my phone yet motorola says it is and the other verizon droid phone does it. My old voyager is looking better and better each day (along with no contract) not simply because of the lack of the option to attach audio, but the fact that i cannot get anyone at verizon to tell me why this particular phone does not support attaching audio or EMS or whatever they want to call it. Motorola says it does and even verizons emulation droid has it. Just not the actualy phones. :robotmad:

Called Verizon again today and finally got an answer. Verizon tech called Motorola tech and we had a 3-way powwow. Motorola said that their droid does not support sending any type of audio in any kind of text message (SMS, MMS, EMS) besides recording your own voice. And they did not sound like they were worried about it or were going to give it any attention anytime in the future. Simple feature I wish the phone had. Oh well, back to my LG Voyager i go because i dont need to communicate with the moon I just want my phone to be able to send Larry The Cable Guy dirty jokes as audio in a text.

Is this the reason that I get the picture first and then voice when someone sends me one of these messages? If so, I would like to have this option as well. It is very annoying and takes away for the joke that I am receiving. Hopefully Verizon, Motorola, Android can come up with a fix to make the best phone even better. I am suprised that it wouldnt have this feature as everything it does is the main advertising point.
