Anyone having a problem when plugging the phone in to charge?

When I plug my phone in to charge, I have to move the connection around until I hear and see that it is charging. If I set it down then I lose the connection for the charge. I have to then get it going again and try to set the phone in a position where it will continue to charge. The slightest movement of the phone will cause it to stop charging. What is going on with this? The phone is only a month and a half old! Never dropped. Taking very good care of the phone. Anyone else having problems with this and what should I do?

Have you tried using a different charger?

If you bend and twist metal repeatedly, it will break. That's what happens to most chargers that get a lot of use. The copper wiring inside separates and getting a connection becomes difficult. This is the first sign of a faulty charger. It's nice that you get a bit of a warning and the charger doesn't fail completely for a while. This gives you time to find a replacement :smileyhappy:

I have tried using a different charger. Several in fact. It is always the same problem. Unless I hold the end piece that goes in to the phone and move it to one side or another then I get the charging sign if not then I have to move it around until I do and then set it in a position where it will stay charged. At night I get up and have to check to make sure that it is still charging. Here lately, I have been plugging my portable charger in to my wall cord and then plugging that in to the phone. I then set the phone on top of the charger and pray that it continues to charge through out the night. Some times this works right away and other times I have to continually move the cord around to make sure that it is still charging. I wonder if this is a new glitch with this phone and what needs to be done. I hate to have to take it back to Verizon and then be without the phone.

Sounds like the connector in the phone is loose. Only way to fix it is to get a replacement/refurbished.

Yes!!!! I was about to post about this. I bought mine used so I was concerned it was my phone and was damaged. I have the stock Nokia charger. The slightest shift will cause the phone to beep like it was disconnected and a second later beep like it was reconnected. A few days ago it actually didn't charge as it sat on a (level) wooden table.

Someone from Verizon should reply to this.

I actually took mine back in. Since it was still under warranty they sent me a replacement. Got the replacement the very next day. It was the port in the phone. Sometimes they just go bad for no reason. The only other option that I was going to try was to get a wireless charger with the different back but once I explained the problem & found that my phone was still under warranty I then went the other route

I have just recently started having charging issues. It charged this morning but would not tonight. Also my phone likes to shut down on its own. My 822 will be one years old in December. I too have tried different chargers and even different outlets. I had to shut my phone down since I only had one bar left. I want to upgrade my phone but that date isn't until December 4th.

I am having the same issue over the last few days and my phone is almost one year old as well. It seems like the port is loose and I have to set it down gently to ensure it is charging and sometimes I wake up and realize its dead.

Try laying it face down and then plug it in, you can also try putting a small object under the cord to hold it in the port tightly until you can get a replacement. Must be a defect

Thank you for filling us in on this information. We certainly always want you to have a working device. It does sound as if you are having charging port issue. If you are still within your one year warranty, you are eligible to get your phone replaced at no cost. You will probably want to check out a local Verizon store first so the phone can be checked for any damage. If nothing then I would suggest taking that route to resolve. You can check store in the area with vzw.com/storelocator.

I just started having this part of the problem and am adding it to all other problems and lies the Verizon has enjoyed putting on me with this price of crap phone

That only works for a while and will make problem worse later on. I have only had this phone since April and this is the 3rd time I am taking it back in for same issue.

I think it is CRAZY to even suggest a different charger. I was specifically told the 1st time I turned phone in for this problem that that is what caused it. Trying different chargers and/or propping it up with another item. Don't use anything but ones specifically for the phone. I have only had my phone is April of this year 2013. I will now have to take it back for a 3rd new phone. Last time just got new part where port charger is contained. What my concern is is that after my year is up then what do I do. After I have turned it in a couple more times. When does Verizon realize this is a continuing issue with this phone. I chose this phone because of a sales person. Was told it would not be slow able to run all my Windows Programs for my business and job. My expectations did not meet what I was told. I can not get half the Apps, not compatible, that the other phones on the market at the same time can get. A major App that came out at work, I was not able to get because of this. They switched, management to it as a time saver. My position is actually more time consuming than others because I can't get the App. Wish I NEVER would have got this phone.

The last thing I want is for you to have any concerns with your device! Let's make sure we review all possible options to get to the bottom of this. Just to clarify, as mentioned in the thread, have you attempted use of any other chargers or outlets just in case? Is there any physical or liquid damages on the device?

After investigating how the software for this device performs regarding charging I did find that there is a small delay (about 10 seconds) for the phone to notify that it is in fact charging. Can you please test to confirm that your device is charger after plugged in and waiting this time?

My family purchased 4 Lumina 822 phones almost exactly a year ago. We are now having issues with 3 out of the 4 phones charging. It starts with you having to keep adjusting when you plug it in to find a good connection. 2 of the phones now will not charge at all, have tried multiple chargers. One phone can still be charged if you adjust the charger and prop it up. It isn't the battery as we've removed batteries and charged it in the one phone that is still working properly (knock on wood).

Is this a manufacturer's defect?

Good thing we're here to provide a charge again. How long has this been an issue? Did it happen at the same time considering this is plaguing several phones? And does damage exist of either the charger or the charging port on the phones?

I know that I am very late to reply to this thread, but I had the same problem last year with the same device. It was the connector inside of the phone that was loose. I could not afford to get it repaired and did not have insurance. The way I solved it is by purchasing the wireless charging back and a Qi wireless charging plate. It still works perfectly!

We certainly do not want to lose you rrussell14. I know it can be concerning to receive a certified like new replacement. However, please know that these devices go through a 100 point inspection to ensure you are getting a good quality phone. What exactly is going on with the replacement?

Unfortunately, we are unable to send out a new phone. When a device is replaced under than one year manufacture warranty, it is replaced with the same make and model device. Are you eligible to upgrade? You may dial #UPG send from your device to check eligibility.

My 822's USB port just started flaking out last week. I have to make sure there's something propping up the cable to keep the connection. Makes my car's charger pretty much useless.

MicroUSB ports are supposed to be rated for 10,000 connect/disconnect cycles. Pretty sure I've not done 18 cycles per day in the year and a half that I've had it.

Carry insurance on any phone that you purchase. There is too much out there that is not quality. I had a Samsung Galaxy for almost 14 days and hated it. I took it back to the store and guess what? The phone itself was faulty! I think everyone that is sincerely interested in changing the policies at Verizon (and the company is not the same company it was even 12 years ago) needs to stand up and say "no." If they have faulty products and they keep getting away with passing them on, we are no better by accepting the practice. There was a time on this planet when quality mattered. Verizon is a very poor example of consistent quality. Every now and then there is a rose in the midst of the thorns. But that is not common practice by Verizon. I think they must have a Verizon is always right policy because it is the way they respond to customers with problems. Basically you must have done something to make the problem--therefore you are the problem. Verizon is the problem. Keep on letting them know or better yet--switch carriers!!!

It definitely sounds like the USB port on your device is wearing out, since multiple devices have a poor connection. I'd like to investigate, and find out what can be done. Devices come with a one-year warranty. Do you carry extended warranty insurance on your device? Is there any physical or liquid damage?

I've had the phone for a year and a half, no extended warranty. I've already ordered an HTC 8X to replace it, since I have a road trip coming up and don't have time to dink around with further troubleshooting/exchanges/etc.

I bought my phone almost 2 years ago. After about 9 months, it wouldn't charge. Wasn't the port. They (sales peps) could not figure it out either. Ended up sending it back and receiving a new one. Extended my warrenty by 3 months, that didn't help. I have had my second phone since spring. It won't hold a charge and it takes about 5 minutes for it to finally start showing that it is charging. I have to charge my phone a few times a day. Won't work in the car either. Now it is out of warranty again. Thinking about the wireless charging system but why pay for this if I can get another discounted phone in 4 more months.. WHAT IS UP WITH THESE PHONES??

I was with T_Mobile for 12 years and changed because of a slight cost saving. Kinda wish I hadn't now. How can I get this fixed, again??? this is too costly for me to be doing this every 9 or 10 months..

I regret to see you've had so many difficulties with your sharging port, outofservice. But we don't want to be one of your regrets! If you look into the charging port of your phone, so you see any debris or corrosion? Or are any of the metal contacts bent or missing? Are you still using the original Nokia charger that came with the phone?
