Ice cream sanwich has destroyed my faith in android

I was so excited to get the maxx that i took a day from work to be there when the fedex lady dropped it off. Loved everything about the phone the great battery the 4g the beautiful screen the task killer on the phone and GINGERBREAD. I was excited about ice cream sandwich until i installed it. Now my phone is crap it locked up the other and would not turn on I had to take to the verizon store for the guy to push a couple of buttons and it finally came back on. Ever since ICS I have a red box that pops up on the edge of my screen and my text keyboard sticks or locks up and now when I send texts out to group some get it and some dont and some get it the next day or so. I want my phone back to how it was pre ICS. I'm seriously considering after the iphone 5 rush ends in the next couple of months on biting the bullet and just buying one outright with no contract and giving the maxx to my 2 year old as a toy. Please someone help if there is any help available. The verizon stores are useless outside of that guy pushing buttons so my phone works again.

Did you do a factory reset? While this is a generic "solution" that is offered way too much, after a major OS upgrade, it very often fixes things. To be extremely technical, bad stuff from apps running under the previous OS can stick around and cause problems. A reset can remove this.

Silver is correct. You need to clear out all the old GB settings in order to get the best of ICS. I spent a few days with ICS to get my phone working about as flawlessly as can be expected from any phone by any manufacturer. My battery last for days with my normal use and ICS on my Razr Maxx runs circles around my friends iPhone 4S. I'm no Apple hater and I don't have an iPhone but I deal with people everyday who do have them and iPads and I have no desire to change to iAnything. Especially since their latest debacle with their mapping program. My phone isn't my primary GPS but from everything I've seen, it beats the IOS6 mapping by miles. I don't expect ANY GPS to put me on a particular door step but it is nice to at least be at the right house with pictures of the house (in case I have doubts about where I'm at).

GB was nice but I was told by a Verizon rep that the Razr Maxx was never intended to have GB on it. ICS was supposed to be the OS on it when released but they got caught up in the need to get a better battery life phone on the market and since the Maxx is basically the same phone as the Razr... well it got GB too.

I have Jelly bean on my Nexus 7 and I am looking forward to the day I get it on my Maxx. I know that there will be a learning curve and I accept that. I know too that no new OS will be perfect or like the old one.

The general advice is to only do a factory reset if you have problems. Many (including me) had no issues after the upgrade, others do (the difference might be due to different apps and settings).

In fact, Motorola, during the soak tests, tells people NOT to factory reset at least for a few days, and explained that immediately after the upgrade the phone has to do a lot of processing, causing slow response and poor battery life. After two days or so, that work should be complete and things should be good. If, during this period, you do a factory reset (because everything is slow and battery life is really bad!) you merely cause the process to have to begin all over again....

But, if things are bad after a few days, do the reset.
