Droid 5?? VZW Know of a Replacement for Droid 4?

The web has a comment on on the now aging droid 4 being replaced by a droid 5. Almost time for my son to have the upgrade from his droid global, and he really wants to keep his slide-out keyboard. Droid 4 is reported to have terrible battery life. Answer may be droid 5 - but, if so, then When will it show at Verizon?

I don't the Droid 5 will be made. No one will know until Motorola releases information. Nothing was shown at CES pointing to a Droid 5.

I wouldn't count on it. Manufacturers seem to have decided that QWERTY phones aren't allowed to be high-end or high-quality.

That's a shame because i really liked it (Moto Droid 4). It was just too bulky for me.

My next phone has to have a slide out keyboard. The Droid 5 and the Samsung something-or-other are my only two options. Hoping Moto gives us a heads-up sometime soon. Otherwise, I'm stuck with my Droid X2 virtual keyboard.

This question was asked on the Moto forums, and the consensus (but this is not of course an official Moto response) was probably not. Low perceived demand compared to other models.

Why not the Droid 4? It has the slide out keyboard (one major reason why I chose this phone), it's just over a year old, is a solid phone, and I have excellent battery life... see screen shot. Nearly 2 days on a battery charge. It recently got the JB OS, and seems to run and function extremely well.

LOL @Jax_Omen - I guess I need to define my "day". I do power it down overnight, so the battery is showing 19 hours, but it was afternoon on the "2nd day" - if that makes sense. In my mind, the charge lasted 2 "days" of usage .... I unplug the phone one morning...it goes all day, power down overnight, power up the next morning, and it goes all day, and I recharge it the 2nd night. That where I got two days... sorry for any confusion!!

I have a Droid 4 and love it. While I would love to see a Droid 5 for somebody about to get a new phone, the 4 is a solid phone in lieu of a new model. I am on Wi-Fi most of the day at my work and constantly have emails syncing. I usually get home at the end of the work day with about 50% charge remaining.

Still using my old Droid2 with original battery but it is certainly showing it's age and needing new battery. Camera quit working last year and is getting very sluggish with some of the newer apps. Need a real keyboard and have been waiting for the elusive Droid5 which now looks like will never happen. My first smart phone was a Palm Treo and loved it but of course they quit making that one too! I am afraid that if I got a Droid4 that within a month or 2 sure enough the Droid5 would miraculously appear on the market. I believe that there are enough of us out there that would buy a Droid5. Many people can't use a touch screen, bad arthritis, decreased sensitivity in fingertips, poor coordination from nerve damage, etc., and I just wish that these manufacturers would listen to us! The problems with buying an older model such as the Droid4 can be finding parts, batteries, phone cases, etc. This happened with my 2 just six months after buying it and they had a newer version out and I couldn't get brand name parts, had to go with after market on the internet, some worked, some not. Motorola/Verizon--wake up and listen to your customers! You are NOT meeting their needs!! Not everyone wants an i-Phone!!!!

I am a huge fan of the original Droid series as well, and Verizon is aware that there is a desire for a QWERTY keyboard on a smart phone. Thank you for expressing your want for this as well. You are right. Not everyone wants an iPhone, and that's why we have the widest selection of phones out there. I too am waiting for the Droid 5. Motorola and Verizon needs to know that they are many of us (QWERTY keybaord users) that want a Droid 5 to be release. Don't shove us a virtual keyboard in our face or an iPhone. We are not sheeps.

Don't honestly think there will be a Droid 5. The contract with Verizon is over and has been over. Motorola has just been sold twice in a short period of time too.

Manufacturers for the most part has gotten rid of keyboards altogether on the smartphone front. You may find 1 or two low/mid range with keyboards a year in small market areas.

This thread started awhile ago...fun reading my comments from "back then" - and interestingly enough, I've found Swype and the virtual keyboard to be faster and "easier" than the slide out keyboard as time goes on. I slide it out less and less, and use the on screen keyboard much more than I did initially...

I realize not everyone is like me, but I thought I couldn't get by without the "real" keyboard; I can and have no problems adjusting to a phone with only a touchscreen, and although I'll slide out the Droid 4 keyboard now and then, and use it, I don't do so nearly as often as in the beginning.

It would be nice to see) I don't know if some on here know it or not but I got my self a new toy I got a Droid Maxx and I'm liking it the more I use it) But boy did it ever Load a ton of stuff on it. once I got it up and running and once I figure out how to set Google now well it's totally cool) but to track back again on subject in hand it would be nice to see a new slider in the Mix but with the Lanova Deal set to happen soon I wonder what well will see.. In the future.. b33

I'd read on-line that the Droid 5 could be coming out in October '14, but that window has come and gone. I have a DROID 4 and am still waiting, Motorola and Verizon, for your next device with a slide-out QWERTY. Don't do well w/ on-screen typing - REALLY need the slide-out.

Both of you have a target market to keep and grow, or else lose. Bottom line - if I can't get a slide-out from you, I have no reason to stay with you.
