So much for the upgrade- extreme disappointment

I ran the upgrade this morning on my Bionic. And by reading the other posts on here, I'm not the only one with issues. My text messaging doesn't work. I've already cleared all the data off the app and off the browser. I've removed the task killer app off of my phone and it still doesn't work. The app I was using for email exchange also doesn't work. I've reinstalled it twice and it still "stops working".

I don't know what else to do besides spending hours on the phone with tech service or making a trip to one of the stores to get help.

Again, so much for the upgrade....

Moto's advice on soak test forums: (still not clear why they don't state this more globally): give it 24-48 hours. Major upgrades cause lots of changes in the phone, and during this period the phone is working very hard syncing stuff, and you will experience slower performance and reduced battery life in this period. In particular, DON'T do a factory reset during this period, that will just start the clock again!

IF things are still bad/slow after 48 hours, then DO do a factory reset. Many people do one anyway, even if things are apparently working, to remove potential bad interactions.

I agree that more info. should be provided prior to an OS update, but then again ... not everyone would read/follow it, I'm afraid

I wanted to chime in to help someone else out, like silver6056 helped me out with his post.

If you do the ICS update and your phone starts "flipping out"...rebooting every 2 minutes, locking out on simple tasks, loss of ANY functionality...please have patience and wait the 24-48 period (and in my case one more night).

My experience was this: I updated 10/23 Tuesday morning and had so many auto-reboots and I lost COMPLETE use of text messaging. I use Handcent for my messaging, and it would NOT load at all. Even the factory text app would not work. I called Verizon tech support and the ONLY option that was offered to me was to do a "Factory data reset". I was not happy about that because I didn't want to lose all of my data/media/etc that I was unable to backup before the update (because I was stupid and in my happiness and haste that ICS was here...I totally forgot to do it). DO NOT FACTORY RESET UNTIL YOU'VE WAITED 24-48 HOURS. I say this because today, 10/26 at 9am, all is well with my phone.

During the process make sure to have your phone plugged in. It burns through battery like mad! I have a double capacity battery and it needed to be charged twice a day or more.

Wait it out...see if you come out unscathed on the other side!

The reason for this time frame is that ICS is the first and so far the only OS Upgrade that actually Optimizes the phone for use with ICS. So it is optimizing ALL of your installed Apps, All of your Pictures on the Phone Drive, the Internal SD and External SD Cards, all of the Music, All documents, etc... If you have very little on your phone it goes faster, if you have a lot it will take longer.

Battery life during this time is in the dirt, usable features may or may not be in the dirt, the phone itself will be sluggish with emails, text, dialing etc... But once the optimization is complete, you should have a working phone that is much faster, smoother and overall a better phone experience.

You can try to pull the SD Card which will bypass the optimization of the items on that card (at least until you put it back in, so I would just wait it out).
