Any suggestions? I haven't had a chance to get to the verizon store yet but this is maddening! None of the 4 main keys work at all. I have tried safe mode and also a hard reset but neither had any effect. Any suggestions would be great!
Hi bobaftt1212!What an odd situation for all four of your main soft keys to go out on you like that. And hey, those are essential for maximizing your device's operation so let's get to the bottom of things and plan a course of action to fix matters ASAP.First of all, I'm very sorry about the issues but the troubleshooting steps you've taken thus far are perfect and I appreciate you doing so. With that said, we now know that this is not a result of a bad app or the software. So, may I ask if there's any physical or liquid damage on the phone? Also, are you within the one year manufacturer's warranty or do you have insurance on your line? We are likely looking at replacement options at this point. Looking forward to your response!EvanO_VZWVZW SupportFollow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
I have the same problem, buttons rarely work....seems since last big OS upgrade a couple weeks ago.
Went to my Verizon dealer today and they are mystified. Technician did a factory reset....all apps gone....situation is the same; bottom 4 buttons do not always work....often the home button will not work when you need to get out of, say, texting......sometimes they do, but often not.
My keys have the tactile feel when activated...sometimes i can push a bottom key and there is NO tactile response.
Having keys that work are very important to keeping in contact with friends and family. We definitely need to get this resolved. Is the phone damaged? Once a factory reset is completed and the issue still remains we should consider replacement options. Are you still under the 1-year manufactures warranty? If so, we can replace the phone with a certified like new device of the same model. You can contact us here, or at the store, or by phone at *611 to discuss your replacement.KinquanaH_VZWFollow us on Twitter at @VZWsupport
My soft keys just stop working too. A Factory Reset did not solve the problem. Another poor product from HTC. Shame on Verizon, as the Consumer is always left without solutions Verizon benefits from us because phones DON'T last. Shame
Same here and I'm a few months away from becoming eligible for upgrade. The phone is almost unusable at this point.
I have the same problem. I've used this phone for 17 months now with very few issues. Then after the last OS upgrade the soft keys started to become less responsive. Soon they were working only occaionally and now they do not work at all. I have to completely shut down the phone and restart it to change apps, making this phone almost unusable. It looks like this problem is cropping up for more users than just me. Please help us. There is no physical damage to this phone and I've never gotten it wet. No resets, hard or soft, have had any effect on the keys.
I'm having the same problem also. The phone worked fine up until the last update. Now I have to restart the phone several times a day because the soft keys simply become unresponsive. I was going to try a factory reset, but it seems that that is not fixing the problem for others. Verizon, are you going to fix this? With the number of people reporting this issue since the update it seems that there is a software problem.
Jeffree,It's terribly saddening to hear that you have the recently experienced issues with your Rezound and the soft keys. We want to ensure that have you have reliable device. Have you ran the device into Safe Mode in recent times? http://vz.to/vDpqODYosefT_VZWVZW SupportFollow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
Yes . I've tried safe mode. It makes no difference. The buttons will work for a little while and then stop working.
Sent from my Verizon Wireless 4G LTE Smartphone
Ok....I have the same damn problem. The 4 soft keys suddenly stopped responding last week.
I have babied this phone and its never been mistreated at all.
The damn buttons don't work and the Verizon salesperson said I will "unfortunately, have to deal with it."
So now i am contractually obligated to Verizon Wireless with a substandard device that's 1 and 1/2 yrs old?
This is BS, the phone is barely functional without these keys. So i'm just screwed?
I ended up rooting mine and installing a custom rom. I got tired of pulling the battery 3 or 4 times a day. The phone works perfect now.
It's a shame that with the number of people complaining about this problem here and on other forums dedicated to this phone that Verizon will not acknowledge there was a problem with the recent update.
Just got off the phone with HTC on this issue.
They offer no help on the this matter and don't recognize this soft-key issue as a real problem (i.e. recall).
They want me to send the phone to them, for which I time will be without a phone, and spend an estimated $90-110 for the repair. They cant give me a specific quote without my device in their hands so who knows how expensive this could be. Being I'm outside the warranty window of 1-year i'm getting screwed. If the device was several years old I could understand but it's a flipping 1&1/2 old phone!!!!!! It can't even make it through a freaking 2-year contract...sheesh!!!!
FYI, discussion of custom modifications to the phones are frowned upon here because of the Terms of Service for the forum.
FYI, Verizon and HTC don't give us much choice.
Then I guess linking this google search will most certainly upset some people
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=rezound+soft+keys+not+working+after+update
Factory resets don't fix it either. I simply stated what I did to fix mine. I certainly didn't go into details on how to do it, nor would I suggest anyone trying it who hasn't worked with Android devices. You can turn your almost worthless phone into a completely worthless one.
Just adding my name to the people with the same issue. My rezounds buttons have stopped working too.
So, I sent my phone to HTC with this soft key problem. This sending out to fix occurred because I called Verizon. The Verizon rep transferred me over to HTC who in turn told me I had to send my phone in for repair. I thought fine, whatever, just fix it. I'm sick and tired of the run around.
Just got a email from HTC....$160 to fix this phone. I'm at the point i'm ready to explode. I need my phone and I am only up for a new one in February. That's a long way off. Again, I believe this to be a software issue. The phone was never abused. What? An HTC product can't make it the duration of a 2-year contract without going to crap?
Anyone have any insight on this. I feel im getting screwed over.
BTW...im using my old Samsung Omnia while waiting on my Rezound to be fixed. The Omnia still seems to function my dear Verizon/HTC.
What? You sell inferior products now?
I'm not allowed to tell you how I did it here, but I did fix mine. If you're desperate, Google is your friend.
I called Verizon last week about this, and was told they didn't know anything about it. Started happening about 2 weeks ago, and now keys don't work at all. Have to restart phone to get out of some applications. Originally I was up for a new phone in Sept, but now I have to wait until Jan because they changed the policy.
I too am out of the one year warranty...have had the phone less than 1 1/2 years.
If I pay the 100 bucks to get a refurbished one, not sure if it will fix the issue if it ends up being a OS update issue.
Anyone get a resolution yet..I don't wat to root my phone.
If you look at my other posts in this thread you will see that I'm in the same boat as you. I sent my phone to HTC to diagnose the problem. They said it was a hardware issue and wanted $160 to repair it. I said screw that, just send my phone back to me. I am with the others in this thread that say this is software related since this "soft key" problem started occurring after the last software upgrade. Look at the dates of the posts in this thread, it's all a more recent occurrence.
Verizon/HTC need to recognize the problem here. We shouldn't be stuck with phones that couldn't last the duration of a 2-year contract. Call Verizon, tell them the issue, refer them to this thread as well. Don't cave and spend your hard-earned money for repairs/refurbished phones. You didn't cause this problem. Here's another thread with people having the same problem with the rezound and other HTC devices:
http://androidforums.com/htc-rezound/651316-soft-keys-not-responding.html
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1600585
http://androidforums.com/htc-droid-incredible-2/554936-soft-buttons-not-working-factory-reset-didnt-work.html
For the time being I recommend downloading the free version of Smart Taskbar for the Play store. Watch this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFnP94ahN6U
There is no solution that I have found other than doing something frowned upon on this forum…. However, there is a workaround that requires zero modification to the phone. Just install this
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jun.ace.piecontrol&feature=search_result
Setup the controls include the same functions as the soft keys and you should be ok. This assumes that the only problem that you’re having is the softkeys flaking out.

I have the same issue.
I tried to work through this with @VZWsupport on twitter, but they suggest that I upgrade.
I am beginning to feel that this is a ploy to get people on unlimited plans to upgrade out of the unlimited plan.
Obviously, VZW or HTC do not want to address the issue, despite the fact that the problem started after a software update. I feel that VZW is making these phones useless intentionally in order to force us to upgrade, renew the contract, and change to an awful "Share Everything" plan.
Hmmm, I still have unlimited data and was given the same feedback like you got from Verizon.
If this keeps up maybe the term "class-action" will begin to be mentioned.
Looking at other cell phone forums, it seems that the number of people that are having this problem isn't limited to the few replies to this thread. Class Action may be something to explore
My soft keys went out today too. It has been a slow death over the past couple of weeks. First it took a couple of tries, then more and more, today nothing worked. Putting the phone to sleep and turning it back on used to work, but that doesn't anymore. The only way to change screens now is to restart the phone every time.
Update, I took my phone to a Verizon store and they confirmed it was broke. Fortunately I had the extended warranty and got a new Rezound. Guess what, this one didn't read SIM cards! I brought it back to the store and they confirmed this one was broke too. Now I'm waiting to get my third phone. So basically if your soft keys go out, take it back. There is no fix for it.
Same problem here, and same "slow death" that SalSci describes:
"...First it took a couple of tries, then more and more, today nothing worked. Putting the phone to sleep and turning it back on used to work, but that doesn't anymore. The only way to change screens now is to restart the phone every time. "
I've found a temporary workaround using the My Home Button app: it allows you to add both a home button replacement and a Recent Apps switcher (what long-pressing the home button did, back when it worked) to your Notification bar. So I can at least get back to home and then close whatever app I was using.
Here's the link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=wq.myhomebutton
But this is ridiculous. My phone is also 1 1/2 yrs old, almost exactly. (I'm not big on conspiracy theories, but I am also desperately clinging to unlimited data, for what it's worth). Regardless, I've been with Verizon for about 10 years now and this is at least the third time I've bought a phone that they stopped supporting during my contract term. Anyone else notice you can't buy the Rezound through their website anymore (even though the Rhyme, released earlier than the Rezound, is still for sale)?
A phone that lasts 2 years (and is actually supported for at least that long) would be great.
Wow, yet another person with the same problem!
Are you seeing this Verizon? Is there a fix in the works?
Dear kll03,Good morning. Experiencing difficulties with your device is certainly frustrating. I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. I would also like to then all of our community members for their time to reasearch and provide recommendations in providing assistance. I understand running the phone in safe mode did not help. Powering the phone off and on, as well as doing a battery pull also did not help. The last step we would take is a hard reset. Before you process a hard reset, please esure your information is backed up. To learn how to process a hard reset click http://vz.to/wLmjGs If you still experience difficutlies with the soft keys, please fee freel to reach out to us. Thank You,Michelle_VZWPlease follow us on twitter @VZWSupport
Add me to the list of none working soft keys.
Several of us have tried to do a hard reset. It does not work. The soft keys are simply unresponsive.
I really think this is a hardware issue. I tried all the software "fixes" and nothing worked. Based on the "slow death" tell me that something is wrong with the phone itself. I'm just happy I got the extended warranty. I have also noticed that Verizon no longer advertisers or sells anything for the Rezound. Even this board was hard to find.
Throwing in my name as well. What an AMAZING coincidence that all of our Rezounds are having the same issue at the same time. Hmmmm... Also, thank you for your lack of help Verizon and HTC. I can't upgrade until February of 2014. Now my wife is stuck with a broken phone. I can guarantee the next purchase will NOT be an HTC! In fact, we may switch carriers all together.
>>Edited to remove profanity<<
i just googled 'rezound' to see if new info came up - i had to go back to my HTC "not-so-Incredible" because the soft keys on my rezound stopped working. it started slowly (you'd have to tap them several times) and after a couple months, stopped working. my local verizon hadn't heard of this issue, and had trouble finding any forums on it. they did the hard re-set and nothing helped. my renewal is coming up soon - but i too was very disappointed to have paid plenty for this phone and got far less than 2 yrs out of it. class action?
I rarely come on to the site but i'm freaking out because my phone's soft keys (learned that on here since I had no clue that was their name) slowly started not to work for me and they are now frozen. I noticed that my phone started going to black so i had to hit the top right button to get the screen if i wanted to be able to press a 1 or 2 when they asked me to. Then the soft buttons. All within the last 2/3 weeks. I thought come on update since it seems everytime we need one my phone starts acting up. Then I see everyone on here in the last weeks is having exactly the same problem and my plan isnt up for renewal til 01/27. You cant tell me that all these phones at the same time are breaking cause we ourselves are doing something to it. That makes no sense at all. And I need this phone, I'm the caretaker for my sick grandmother and my health problemed mom, I'm all the doctor's contacts and i'm I get contacted a lot for my mom since she's going thru testing and radiation. So what, I now have to get a new phone which I cant afford? I'm pretty fed up that every 2 years, or less, you have to get a new phone because it seems they dont last at all. I think come the end of Jan. I'm looking into cheaper plans with less expensive phones that at least when they do go bad I can afford to get a new phone. I know I'm ranting but this is frustrating. And this site puts me back to the "let's see if we can find what's wrong page" instead of giving me an email to send my help me request. I am going to the store today, specifically to see if they can help me but from the sound of it on here i'll be wasting my breath.
I've had the sofkeys go out about a month ago. As far as I can tell there is only two solutions to this problem. If you are under warranty go and get a replacement from verizon. If not, like me, only option without spending somewhere around $500 for a new phone, is rooting the phone. Verizon will tell you not to do that but unfortunately those of us which are in this boat have no choice. It's something that will void your warranty but if you don't have one then you don't have much to lose since the phone is useless without it. After you root your phone you can install softkey app that will allow you to have those on screen which will make your phone useable again. Search google and you will find resources to do what I just mentioned above. Other then that my bet is most of you are waiting for verizon to do something they will never do. Good Luck.
add me to the growing list of Rezounders who are having problems with the softkeys. Very frustrating to see that neither VZW nor HTC seems willing or interested in correcting this.
I also went to VZW store and they had no clue as to what to do except hard reset - which I now see has already been tried.
Can't VZW/HTC examine the latest OTA update and correct this before all the Rezounds come to a screeching halt?
I was thinking of getting an HTC One from VZW but I'll rethink that given the lack of interest in correcting this /making it right for customers.
I wrote to HTC... they suggested two things: "performing a wipe cache partition"; or putting in safe mode and not using any 3rd party apps for 1-2 days - this would tell if it's a 3rd party app or the phone.
Has anyone tried the "wipe cache partition" route?
Ive tried everything pre-rooting. I guarantee you it's not a 3rd party app. Some on here say it might be a software issue since most of these problems coincided with the update. I honestly think its a hardware problem with the unit and the update was a coincidence but I could be wrong.
I would like to add my name to the list of people having troubles after the last upgrade as well. I have the HTC Thunderbolt. I had my unlimited data plan grandfathered into a 2 year contract. I don't have a warranty and have no option but to use the phone my work provided for me. I have been trying to decide if I should get under the new contract and start over.
The phone worked perfectly fine. I was just about done with the two year contract and thought that it was a coincidence that the phone stopped working. I have troubles with the soft keys, and the digitizer. I put the touch trace option back on my screen and have noticed it is registering multiple touches instead of the one. No reset, calibration, or other option has corrected my issue. I eventually installed a new OEM combined screen and digitizer unit thinking that it would fix the problem. Didn't fix the issues. When I can get the phone to open I can answer incoming calls. Otherwise the phone is useless. All other functions of the phone are obsolete as I cannot select any app, type anything using the screen, much less navigate any of the screens or settings. Just trying to look up contacts or apps becomes a frustrating half hour ordeal.
I thought my phone issues were an isolated incident, but after reading this thread I wish I had investigated my issues earlier. Still not sure what to do. I have been loyal to Verizon since the AirTouch days. I helped install some of their infrastructure at MTSOs and individual cell sites throughout SoCal. I was sort of partial to them after working for a company installing for them. Service has never been much of an issue until recently.
Add me to the list as well. This has also been a slow death over the last 1 to 2 weeks. VZW said, that I shoud do a hard reset, remove the battery.... I did them all and they are still almost useless. My upgrade is up in about 2 months but I didn't want to lose my unlimited data deal. I FEEL LIKE I AM STUCK WITHOUT ANY HELP.
That's definitely unusual performance for the HTC Rezound cynthie! My sister uses one and has experience excellent performance. Was there any damage to the soft keys? How long have you had the device? We offer a one-year warranty as standard and we also offer extended warranty options with insurance. We are happy to troubleshoot the device if you reactivate it!Sincerely,Jonathan_VZWPlease follow us on twitter @VZWSupport
I've got the same soft key problem; it began after the OTA update in May. I've tried everything short of rooting. My contract isn't up until next April. It is infuriating to see the unhelpful responses from VZW in this thread. Verizon, please contact HTC, and get them to acknowledge and fix this problem, instead of pretending you have no responsibility to your customers. It's just plain ludicrous for you to repeatedly respond to this widespread issue on a case by case basis.
@Jonathan_VZW, you should read this entire thread before you respond. This is a problem affecting many paying customers, and these piecemeal responses from VZW are not going to resolve the issue.
It is clear that Verizon wants to take no responsibility for this issue. Every few days, a VZW rep comes in this thread and gives the standard answer.
"Have your tried hard reset"
"Is your phone under warranty"
"Lets look at replacement options"
Verizon knows the answers. Yes, we tried hard reset. No, it's not under warranty.
Replacement option? Upgrade and lose your unlimited data.
This is the end game.
Get us all to upgrade and unless we want to pay $700 for a phone, we will lose our unlimited data.
What's your answer, Verizon? How can you do this to your customers?
While VZW stews over this situation, I did opt to download Smart Taskbar v.1 and then opted for the pro version for < $2. It does restore functionality to the Rezound.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smart.taskbar&hl=en
I'll use this until my upgrade comes around next month and then I'll stop using HTC phones as this problem seems to be associated with their brand. Give it a try. It's easy to figure out and use. Disclaimer: I have not association with the developer. There are other forums where this topic is being discussed but there is no real solution that has emerged
As for he VZW rep. Maybe jhe might ask his sister how her Rezound's soft keys are working? Isn't there anyone who works at VZW using this phone and experiencing problems? (doubtful). I do agree that all we see from VZW and HTC are the same tired (and tried) fixes that don't work and reminding us of warranties and extended warranties. They should "recall" this phone and give us something that works.
Add another person to the list. My soft keys are no longer working, Funny this happens 2 weeks past the 1 year warranty date! :smileysad:
IvyDJ, we certainly don't want you to go! I want to help change the way you feel about us! I can understand your need to have a working phone! Hello Samuel (VZW rep above) -
You directed us to an IPhone resource. We are speaking of the HTC Rezound.
Bburg, thanks for posting. I can understand how upsetting this can be. Did you try to "wipe the cache partition"? Did it help? Have you ever had the device replaced? Please give more details. We are here to help!Sammuel_VZWPlease follow us on twitter @VZWSupport
In response to Samuel (59)
Yes, I tried the wipe cache partition suggested by HTC. No change. Safe mode didn't work, neither did hard reset. Zero for three - strikeout.
No, I have never had the phone replaced. I got the phone almost as soon as VZW got it in the inventory. At the time it was marketed as a "premier" phone. Except for this problem (softkeys), I have enjoyed it.
@Sammuel_VZW, you should read this entire thread before you respond. This is a problem affecting many paying customers, and these piecemeal responses from VZW are not going to resolve the issue.
Count me in on having this issue too. You are correct in that none of the reps take anytime to read this thread. I'm very close to rooting my phone and taking care of this myself. But I may go to my local store first to see if they can resolve this.
After a few email exchanges with HTC (where they recommended wiping cache partition, using in safe mode and a hard reset (in that order of severity) - I got this today.
"Since you already tried both of the steps provided, this is hardware issue with your phone, I will strongly suggest you to please contact our RMA Department for further assistance with this hardware issue with your soft keys not responding; our repair specialists will provide the best solution and fix your phone as soon as possible. Also, our representatives will give you information regarding warranty and costs if any included. Please contact them at: 1-866-449-8358, the hours of operation for HTC Repair are from Monday to Friday 8:00 A.M – 1:00 A.M ET. They will provide the best solution and fix your screen."
Sigh, I went through all of that with HTC already. Sent my phone there only to be told it would be $160 repair. They don't acknowledge the wide-scale problem with their phone either. They are useless as well.
I could believe its simply a hardware problem if it was only a couple phones with this issue. But look at all of these people here on this thread that have the same exact problem and its becoming worse by the day. It would be an amazing coincidence if this problem was not connected somehow. Again, I stand by the notion that the upgrade screwed these phones. My phone was fine prior to that occurring. Everyone is within the same typical time-frame of post-upgrade where they are now complaining of this same problem.
Further, there is a person posting here that fixed the problem through a root and custom ROM. That seems to me to be a software issue to me then.
Oh BTW, all HTC does with your device is hooks it up to a diagnostic tool that tells what the issue is. Which means if you go and pay them to fix it and the software upgrade did indeed cause this, you will have dead soft keys again at some point perhaps.
I asked the HTC rep during my attempt to fix it with them "Could this be a software issue masquerading as a hardware issue?" his response "yes, that is possible." He then discussed rooting the phone with me as a fix attempt since I was unwilling to fork over the cash.
So basically I feel Verizon/HTC want nothing to do with us on this issue unless we want to give them more money in repairs or phone upgrades w/2yr contracts sans unlimited data.
Hi there Nornee & community, I can completely understand any frustrations regarding the soft keys on your phone. They're pretty important to the overall function! I do see a lot of great suggestions from my colleagues, and I do want to ensure we've taken every measure to ensure this issue is resolved. I appreciate all of the troubleshooting you've already completed to attempt and resolve this concern yourself. I would like to send your report to our Manufacture Liason to make sure this concern is lifted up properly. I've followed you to gather additional information. Please hover over my icon and follow me back. Then send me a direct message with the following information:Current Software Version http://vz.to/13S7jhp Device ID http://vz.to/177BoHZAs well as a description of the exact issues along with all of the troubleshooting steps you've already completed. I look forward to escalating your concerns to have this resolved! Melissa_VZWPlease follow us on twitter @VZWSupport
Hey there Bburg,I am sorry to learn of the issues that you are having with your HTC Rezound. It is my intent to get you into a fully functional phone. The hard reset is the final step in the troubleshooting effort and if that did not work we would have to look into replacement options. Please follow me and dm me your mobile number and billing system password so I can review your account so we can discuss your options.Nicholas_VZWPlease follow us on twitter @VZWSupport
@Melissa_VZW, I have complied with your above request.
I just wanted to reiterate, however, that we are looking for acknowledgement that these are not isolated incidents, and a real solution from HTC/VZW in the form of a software patch or whatever is needed to fix the problem for everyone.
Based on the response above from Kinquana_VZW, it doesn't sound like you're all on board yet. We would all appreciate a unified response approach and regular updates on VZW's progress on the solution, which, obviously, we expect you to determine and implement with the greatest alacrity.
Thanks!
Hi all, I registered here just so that I could respond to this problem. I also have a Rezound and during the last 2 weeks my soft keys have slowly gotten to the point where they no longer function. I admit that it does seem a little odd that we all seem to be experiencing this in a relatively short time span however in my case I cannot blame a VZW update because shortly after buying my Rezound I >>comment deleted<< My phone has never received an update from VZW. >>comment deleted<< therefore I have come to the conclusion that it must be a HTC hardware problem. I hope that this information is helpful to someone. Should anyone have any questions, I will try to answer them to the best of my ability.
>>Discussions concerning rooting, jailbreaking, hacking, etc., are against the forum's <<
If what you're saying is true, it still sounds like an epic fail on the part of HTC/VZW. Still expect a resolution, whether it comes from a software or hardware fix, for everyone affected.
How do I direct message Melissa_VZW with this information?
I have followed her (Melissa_VZW) back - as she suggested - and I guess I'm waiting to be approved to be able to send her a direct message with the info. I don't use 'twittter" so hoping I don't have to use that to get some attention. I have the info she was looking for to send on to a HTC counterpart.
If someone know the correct process to get to Melissa_VZW pls advise - Nornee"?
There's an "m" in there...@melissam_VZW. I'm not sure why it's not included in her comments in this forum. i finally figured it out when I looked at who was following me from my profile page. I was able to send a direct message with my info from her profile page.
I haven't heard anything further from Melissa.

Adding my name to this extensive list of unhappy people. Class Action anyone??
Adding my name as well just started loosing the soft keys in the past week its getting worse daily have tried everything from a hard reset to battery pulls and clearing the cache. Pretty feed up considering I just updated to the Rezound in October 2012.
Well, went to the store, I had the extended warranty, so they sent me a new phone. Apparently, they don't test their refurbs that well, because it won't even fully boot.
FYI a response to a story at Android Central announcing that VZW is making a big announcement at an event in NYC on 7/23 (http://www.androidcentral.com/verizon-holding-event-nyc-july-23)
"Can someone who's attending please ask for comments on the epic fail of the HTC Rezound (soft keys stopped working for everyone since May update)? Thanks! I can't include the link, but the forum in VZW's community is entitled "HTC Rezound soft keys not responding?""
Maybe we'll get some more attention.

More often than not, those sort of highly off-topic posts are completely ignored, if not deleted all together.
Throwing my hat in the ring. My soft keys quit working right after the last software update. Good thing my contract is up at the end of the month. When a company pushes out a software update that breaks users phones and does not fix them at no cost since the user is not at fault that is very poor on the companies side. I have loved my HCT phone unti now.
I have done the hard resets, clearing cache, pulled the battery, run in safe mode and all have failed. I rooted my phone and still no softkeys. Guess I will put a custom ROM and uses for the last few weeks then go with another service provider.
Way to fail your customers Verizon.

I never got the most recent version. Mine is the one that was pushed out last August - when we got ICS. It's 3.14.605.12 and not "13".
At least one other poster here said after experiencing this softkey problem - they had rooted their phone - to no avail.
Earlier on, one of the VZW reps, Melissam_vzw (post #66) invited us to share some phone info. She seems genuinely working to get this addressed. Consider sending her your info.
@pghvzwcust,You deserve to have a working phone at all times! I can imagine how frustrating this whole situation has been for you.It sounds like you have done some great troubleshooting on your own. The last step would be the hard reset and since you have already done it and the issue persist, we may need to have the phone replaced.Has there been any damage to the device? Have you taken into a VZW store for a hands on evaluation?John_VZWPlease follow us on twitter @VZWSupport
These verizon rep smoke screens are getting ridiculous.
There is no damage at all. I have not taken it in to my local store yet.
Dear arens6,Good morning. Updates are meant to improve your device. I know how frustarting it can be when your device has stop working properly after an update. I understand you have gone through many troublehsooting steps such as hard reset, clearing cache, battery pull, running phone in safe mode. At this point if there is no physical or water damage and the phone was still under warranty, we would replace your phone with the same make and model. However, since the device has been rooted, it voids the warranty on your phone. I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused. Thank You,Michelle_VZWPlease follow us on twitter @VZWSupport
My Rezound is having the same issues with non-responsive soft keys. In less than 24 hours it went from being fully functional to practically useless. There has been no recent update, nor damage of any kind. It just quit working. Ironically the 1 year manufacture warranty just expired. Of course, no one wants to accept that the issue is not user related but rather product/service related and if you don't shell out the extra expense of added insurance you are left with a worthless product and are forced to spend HUNDREDS of dollars to replace a product thats disfunction is not your fault or be forced to spend the extra $ per month for required data when the phone is really useless to have any type of applications since there is no way to exit the programs without powering down the phone each and every time.
Never fails, required 2 year plans and phones barely last a year.
