SD card.. it keeps disappearing

Just got a phone through asurion and my SD card was corrupted so I put a new one in the new phone.. formatted it, etc.  When I plug my phone into my computer and put it on disc drive, the SD card disappears... I can literally watch it disappear. I go to settings>SD and phone storage and it will say 7gb of memory available.  Then I plug my phone into my computer and change the USB connection type to disc drive and press back, back to the SD and storage and it will say SD card unavailable.  Help?

When you plug the phone into the computer, the phone (SD card) becomes a hard drive on the computer and will NOT be available OR viewable on the phone. It becomes, if you will, the property of the computer. This way, you can click and drag items from the new hard drive (SD card) to the computer and visa versa. Again, the SD card becomes unusable/unseeable on the phone whenever you have it plugged into the computer.
