When will VZ go to a 4g network? & other??? Questions Please...

How will that effect DroidX? Upgradeable? Also how does the DroidX compare to the I-phone coming to Verizon next year??? Smart to wait OR??? I still have the razor flip and I'm really leaning towards upgrading to the DroidX...YOUR Expertise would be appreciated..! Thanks!!! :smileyhappy:

I see the Verizon Iphone rumor is starting early this year. I wouldn't wait for that to happen, upgrade to the Droid X if you can..unless of course you plan on going overseas anytime soon.

LTE will begin rollout out later this year, Verizon said. That will be to test markets, though. LTE is completely different tech so don't expect the X will be upgradeable via software, or anything.

By the time Verizon gets anything serious in terms of coverage your X will be ready for an update, anyway, most likely.

It's just like the old days of PCs. You can continue to wait forever if you want the next best thing.

As far as the iPhone goes, I have long believed Q1 2011 for it to hit Verizon, because why else would AT&T be so "generous" with upgrades to the iPhone 4.

The thing you have to remember with LTE is that it's a gradual increase to speeds, we aren't going to wake up one day and the whole USA coverage go from 1-3mbps download speed to 40+mbps speeds. Right now VZW has not exceeded the limits of 3G, in the US, T-mobile has the fastest with reports of 2.9mbps on their 3G+ , but even still the theoretical limits of 3G are around 21mbps download speed. To give you another idea, Sprint's 4G is only pumping out 2.7mbps in tests. (see here for reference: http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/dont_believe_the_hype_sprint_4g_slower_than_t-mobi.php )

So don't think you're jumping onto an already dead ship with the Droid X and it's 3G capabilities, there is still quite a ways for 3G to increase before it's dead.

I dont get the iphone question... what does the iphone do that the droids cant do? The inventor of the cell phone stated himself that android phones are equal if not superior than the iphone... this is coming from the guy who created the first cell phone.. as per cnn.com

Two things that I can think of off the top of my head....

Droids can't browse and talk at the same time (unless on wifi). iPhone can do it
Droids I don't think have that video conferencing feature yet. iPhone 4 does.
