Key pad disappears and cannot get it back

When on a call (like checking voice mail) and the key pad times out and dissappears I cannot get it to come back on by shaking phone, then I cannot continue checking voice mail, I have to hang up and keep trying again. Then I shut the phone off and on again and try again. Sometimes this works and sometimes not. Any suggestions?

When I am talking on my Charge phone the keypad disappears after a few minutes, I suppose, to save battery power. If I press the external button on the upper right side of the phone it reappears for a few minutes more.

Also, while you're talking, if you see the keypad go dim just touch any "empty" space on the keypad display and it will again go bright and stay on for a few more minutes.

Canvasone, I'm having the same problem. Shaking it, touching the screen have not helped. I found this. I have not tried it yet but I'm going to. My screen protector has been on for about a year.

Removing the old screen protector and putting on a new seems to have fixed it for me.

I have this problem with my LG Spectrum. I've found that using the speaker helps and getting the phone at just the right angle can help too, but you never know what the angle is. Pain in the neck.
