-75dBm signal strength, but my phone reception is awful and drops calls almost every day

my data connection is very strong in my apartment, but my phone calls are absolutely terrible. it cuts in and out constantly and drops calls on a regular basis, and Verizon customer service's only solution is for me to spend $300 for a network range extender. when i'm on calls for work, it drops all the time, which is unacceptable. i've resorted to using google voice and making calls over my computer...

anyone have any ideas? i've used two SIM cards and nothing seems to work. it seems to be worse between 10am-8pm, but i'm not entirely sure if that's a legitimate pattern or not.

My wife's Galaxy S3 does the same thing. New sim and factory resets will not cure the problem. I think it's inherent in the S3 and maybe Samsung generally. We have 3 Motorolas in the family (2 Razr Maxx and 1 Razr M) and they work flawlessly where my wife has dropped calls and conversations missing every other word or so. My solution wil be either to give in and buy the Network Extender or get her a Motorola and sell the S3 on Ebay or Craigslist. Probably the latter.

My suggestion is buy a Motorola and show Google there is still a customer base for well engineered phones that work reliably.

PS: If you go by dBm measurement both S3 and Motorola Razr's show about the same, but reception and usability are vastly different.

My problem is exactly the same except it's 4G LTE that's horrible and voice works just fine. Just like you, my phone has been troubleshot to the max and they want me to buy a network extender. I agree with Breezex. As long as I've known of Samsung cellphones, they have not been the greatest with reception. Samsung also wasnt the best at making products back in the day but they no longer have that problem as we all know. I simply think that Samsung has yet to master hardware that will give great receiption on their devices.

Perhaps like Breezex says. Maybe we should get a different type of phone, or give in and get the extender.
