number@vtext.com does not work reliably?

when I email my self at phonenumber@vtext.com from my Outlook email client it works fine. When I have my network monitoring server email me, I do not get the SMS message. My colleague on AT&T gets his SMS alert from our server just fine. Anyone know why @vtext.com works for simple emails, but not for alerts from my network monitoring server?

I confirmed that our outgoing SMTP appliance successfully delivered the email to the vtext.com SMTP server.

If the message is longer than 160 characters, or if there are special characters or formatting, SMS isn't robust enough.  Trying having it sent to yournumber@vzwpix.com instead and it will render as MMS, allow for more characters and possibly work better.
