Going from Iphone to Android

What are people's experiances? Been having trouble with AT&T service but like the Iphone 3G, but have been thinking of switching for a while. Service is not terrible but I do drop calls now and then. Thinking of going to the Incredible or X, or waiting till the end of the year for the new HTC. If my car did not synch with the Iphone music easily and my home stereo have an Iphone docking port I would have swithed already. Anyone already switch and what are your experiances?

Well I have never been with at& t but I have been with verizon for many years and I can say I don't even know the meaning of a dropped call...lol...jk....but, seriously I have never experienced a dropped call with verizon and I have been with them for well over 6 years.

Android as an OS has come a long way and there will be a slight learning curve when you switch from Iphone OS.

There are not as many apps or developers of apps on the Android Market. Although, it doesn't have the same approvals process. There is a new SDK coming out for Android that'll make creating new apps even easier, so it may increase the market. It is also difficult to go to the regular android market to find apps. I recommend something like appbrain.

I keep hearing that default android music app isn't as good as itunes, but there are music players out there that let you view things exactly how Itunes does.

If you buy a new android device like the incredible/droid x/galaxy s/droid 2, etc. it will get OTA updates to the latest version of Android OS.

It's great that apple has proprietary plugs for everything, but until more manufacturers pump out accessories for AndroidOS, you might be stuck with the aux in thing the rest of us do.

i have a friend that switched to get the moto droid a few months ago. he complained about little things for the first couple of weeks.....mostly look/feel type of stuff and how he had to do some things slightly different....or had to find an app to do a few things that should prolly have been able to do on the phone itself. but once he learned and found the apps he needed, he was SOLD on the moto droid. he loves it now. he doesn't necessarily think it has a ton of advantages over his old iphone, except that now he can actually use it whenever and wherever he wants or needs to. i've never had an iphone, but i love my incredible and WOULD NOT leave verizon. i live in the desert and travel back and forth from the desert, up the mountains in AZ. vzn is the ONLY carrier that has my back if my car breaks down, wreck, etc. i get great coverage in the middle of nowhere. more than the devices, that is why i'm with vzn.

you'll prolly find quirky little things that you will will think to yourself "why on earth won't the phone do this" or "why do i need an app for this?"....but for the most part, it will do anything the iphone will.....and more.

plus, if you switch and don't like the droids, vzn gets iphones next year.

From what I uderstand.. It's mainly a learning curve. A friend dropped calls often, but we live in Ohio, so I always figured it wasn't as AT&T friendly as Verizon was (Which seems to be the major service provider here). When he first got his DINC, he was like "UGH" "ERR" "Wha the #$^*" for a little while until he figured out his phone's perks and how a few apps make the huge difference. He loves it now.. He sometimes just stares at his wallpaper (I think his has stars shooting and twinkling in the background) and everytime I look, he seems to be doing SOMETHING on it.. he has had his iPhone since launch I believe and he is obsessed with playing on a smartphone, again.. Haha. Personally I only ever had the Incredible and I will NEVER EVER EVERRRRR complain about its features. To a few (if not many) review websites..they give incredible a tenth of a point more than the current iPhone.. overlooking the whole "holding the phone wrong" deal. That's a big deal, in my opinion, but again, I say it is preference.

Overall, I would have to tell you to go in to a Verizon store (non-"premium" crap store) and play with a few phones. That's what I did when I was looking around at the iPhone at Apple's store and at Verizon's. (I was actually going to switch over to AT&T... I can only imagine my hassle right now since I'd probably be in a "dead zone" knowing my luck) I personally played with MotoDroid, It's ok.... Had a built in keyboard which Idc about, honestly. Had nice features, screen, dah-dah.. Went over to the Incredible? I loooooooved the UI, the touch keyboard was pretty flawless, no problems for me, there. great camera, etc.. Went home and ordered. Then the iPhone 4 came out.. I actually looked at that but after online complaints and being used to the DINC's only realy "flaw" being no front camera (Idk when I'd use that...I doubt I'll find many in Ohio that honestly HAVE that phone.. lol I have yet to notice someone but my friend have the DINC. let alone a NEW iphone) I might go and play with the X today,but I doubt I'll switch I just want to take a peek :smileyhappy: ..I didn't like moto's interface and my DINC is a big screen already, almost pushing it.. I love compact phones with tons of features.

I agree there have been great improvements with android. There will continue to be even more better improvement. Android has come along way ever since the first android cell phone came into the market. The phones just seem to kick butt more & more! According to some sources and even wikipedia 160,000 android phones are sold per day! That's a ton. It seems like people really do love the android phones. Their a very popular item.

As for my experience i have never owned an iPhone & never ever will. I did get the very first android phone that came out. The phone is remarkable. The phone can pretty much do everything. As for the droid phones on Verizon, haven't got the chance to try any out. A close friend of mine decided to get he Motorola Droid. She enjoys the phone and is glad she got it.

I owned the iphone 3g myself. I loved the heck out of that phone but could not handle all the dropped calls. I had been with att for 2 plus years before I got the iphone and never too many dropped calls. But after owning the phone for 4 months, as much as I loved the phone, I couldn't take it anymore. It was worth me dealing with a crappier phone on a much better network. I've been with verizon now for over a year and have loved their service. I recently got the Droid Incredible and I can honestly say that this is the first phone from verizon that I've considered superior to the iphone. Granted, there's a little but higher learning curve but it's worth it. I will never get an iphone again or go back to att for that matter.
