Thunderbolt just got ICS - I want to go back to GB

My Thunderbolt just got ICS OTA without my consent.

I don't want ICS on my phone.

Gingerbread was working fine.

How do I go back to Gingerbread?

Replying so I can see the answer to this. I hate it too. It's ruined my phone. All my music is gone - the music programs can't find any music on my phone. Videos, same thing. Phone can't find them. When I press the button on top to light or darken the screen, it lags about 10 seconds. Actually everything lags. I hate it. I want my phone back.

No you can't go back to a previous version of the OS. Also you had to say okay for it to have downloaded and install the update.

You may want to consider a factory reset to clear out any leftover code. I am planning to do one myself even though my Tbolt isn't having any major issues after the update.

My phone is unusable now that it has updated. Yes, I agreed to the update, but I didn't know it would do this. My cpu is running at 100% constantly, and takes 1-2 minutes between button presses or screen touches. This is awful. I certainly wouldn't have upgraded if I'd known it was going to do this. I'd love to go back to gingerbread.

I Know that I did not say ok to any download! I looked at my phone at about 1am and I could not use it because the download was in progress. Now I have a 2 to 10 second delay on just about every function on the phone!

That is correct, a factory reset only clears out any "stuff" hanging around from installs, etc. Once the OS update is completed, it burns itself in as the default OS, and you cannot go back to a previous version. There are alot of people who will tell you that you should do a factory reset after every OS update, just to help clean it up. Of course, that means re-installing all of your apps, settings, etc, but most if not all of them can be backed up.

The unfortunate part is that on probably most of the phones, it is running fine, while on some it has issues. Have you done a factory reset of the phone since the update? If not, make sure you have your contacts and things backed up before you do, as it will reset it to the point it would be if it was brand new with ICS on it. You will then have to set everything back up, but it may solve your issues.

Got news for you... I did not okay the update. Went to use my phone and it was doing the update and not usable. I couldn't even turn the phone off. I also have a delay from touching any app button. Come on Verizon what gives?

As I mentioned to another post. I did NOT okay the update. Went to use my phone and it was in the process of the update and would not allow me to do anything to stop it. Have had problems ever since.

That seems to be the common theme among a lot of people who say that they did not ok the update, they plugged it in at night to charge, and when they picked it up the next morning it was doing the update. I may have prompted, but I wonder if Verizon put a timeout on the response screen?

I never saw a prompt to okay. I plugged it in to charge late at bedtime, woke up the next morning to a new OS. Have had problems every day with it since. Every time I try to search my contact list, about 200 names... I get an error:oy reads.. "Unfortunately, the process android.process.acore has stopped". I press the OK and it closes the contacts list. So, search only works 1/2 the time. In fact, that message pops up when using a number of the apps that I use a lot. And the Google maps for navigation is not working so well anymore either. It may be okay for a tablet, but cupcake on the android phone leaves a lot to be desired. They should do a lot more testing before they push it out to the public. That's a quick way to lose customers.

I think you mean Ice Cream Sandwich, not Cupcake? Cupcake was V1.5 on Android. It sounds like a factory reset is in need here. Make sure you backup your contacts, and any other thing you need (Text messages, etc) and then try a reset You will have to setup your apps again, but that is a small price to pay to make the phone work again.

Yep people were so mad about not having it. They wanted to sue and get the FCC involved etc etc. Now they have it they don't want it.

I did this update about 10 days ago. Only issue I have is the lag in response time to hitting ANY button. Very aggrivating. Tech says that HTC knows and is working on it.

Yes, I guess it is Ice Cream Sandwich. My brother keeps up with all this, but I'm not interested in having all the latest and greatest bells and whistles. I was just getting really comfortable with my phone the way it was. They should think about who they are sending these upgrades to, and really be more discriminating. Upgrade the younger generation first, they give their phones a real workout much more so than the older generation. Let them figure out all the bugs in the system and fix them before you push it out to the old geezers like me that don't want to be used as a software tester.

How do you do a factory reset? I backed up my contacts list. I don't want to lose my pictures, but I think they are on the SD card.

After spending time on the phone with Verizon Wireless, I discovered that the update did not, in fact, come from them. The update actually came from HTC. When I spoke with HTC Customer Service, they informed me that they are aware that they, quote, "did it wrong this time," and are working on apps that will bring back the look and feel of (at least some of) the things that were on the phone previous to the update.

As far as I'm concerned, HTC did violated my privacy. And THAT, in my opinion, is deserving of a class action lawsuit. I wasn't aware that an update was available for my Thunderbolt, much less that I was going to be forced to take it whether I wanted it or not. To those posters that have said (in this thread) that people were yelling before the upgrade that they wanted the ICS OS, then they should have went and bought a phone with the ICS OS on it already. In my opinion, since that option was available to them, they did not qualify for any type of a lawsuit. This is different - in my opinion.

Physically, HTC, in cooperation with Verizon Wireless and Google, manufactured the HTC Thunderbolt. Then they physically sold the phone to me. It was MY phone, not theirs, to make this type of decision about. After ownership of the phone transfered to me, I had everything set up the way I wanted it, how I liked it.

Virtually, HTC came to my door, didn't knock or ring the doorbell, they simply opened the door and walked into my house without my permission. They picked my phone up off the table and said, "wrarcher, WE [HTC] don't like the way you have your phone set up, so WE [HTC] are going to delete content, change all of your icons around, delete some icons - thus making you go find them again, and completely change the navigation structure and basic functions of your phone. And you know what, wrarcher... If you don't like the changes we make to the phone that we sold to you and that you own, you can just go suck our [insult vulgarity here].

This, ladies and gentlemen, is no different that if any of us had gone into their office, physically picked up their phone, and changed EVERYTHING about their phone. They would be pissed about us messing with their phone, just as many of us are pissed about them messing with our phone.

It is for this reason that I have called HTC and demanded satisfaction. They have not returned my phone call, so I will call them again tomorrow. I will be nice and give them a week - by what I'm told from Verizon and the HTC call centers, they are being inundated with angry phone calls about this update, so it may take them a few days to finally reach my voice mail in the que. However, if I have not heard from them in a week, I will be filing a lawsuit and anyone that wishes to join the lawsuit (making it a class action lawsuit) is welcome to join me.

Simply put, we should have been given the opportunity to accept or decline the upgrade. If we accepted it, we should have been given the opportunity to back up any items that we wanted to keep (skins, wallpapers, backgrounds, icons, apps, photos, videos, music, etc.) after the upgrade was completed. I can only speak positivily for myself, but, from the sounds of it, I don't think I'm the only one, but I was not given any notice of any kind at any time.

HTC owes us a "reverse upgrade" or new phones that will operate the way WE want them to operate - not the way THEY want them to operate. I understand the need to upgrade, but not this way.

I’m right there with you wrarcher. I loved my phone… ThunderBolt is or was an awesome phone. I had a horrible smart phone before, and was tickled pink when I got this one. Now I am very annoyed with it, but not to the point where I want to throw it like I did with the first one.

3 days ago my phone Thunderbolt suddenly buzzed and shutoff. I didn't know what was wrong so I tried to turn it on and nothing happened. So I was about to slip it out of the case and take the battery out and put it back in when it suddenly turned back on. It was going through its own hard reboot. When it finally came back on I had a whole new look and Rapsody was missing from the front. Plus I had this stupid half-circle at the bottom. I touched the half-circle and it brought up the original page without Rapsody. I'm glad that I have read these comments, because you Wrarcher saved me from calling Verizon and getting the same response you did. Thankyou. I found out the new program now is called Ice Cream. I think they did something to "Unknown sources apps". Anyway, we were not warned that we had a complete update coming. I have received no email with new terms and conditions and they have not sent an email outlining the changes they made and whether we need any information to help us with the phone.

If you read any forums this update was suppose to magically fix everything...I'm really surprised to hear a minor software update didn't change the entire function of the phone...

People. Most companies have added wording to the legalese that does not allow class action suits.. The US Supreme Court agreed with AT&T with the wording, now all seem to have it.. So if you find a lawyer saying they will do it, you are doomed to lose a ton o money

Funny. There isn't a contact in the country that can legally prevent a lawsuit if the person/persons/company/companies have been negligent or invasive into my privacy.

And, please give citations for the US Supreme Court decision you refer to regarding AT&T. I cannot find reference to the court allowing a company to violate our rights.

there is no way to undo the ice cream update back to gingerbread till vrz unlocks that ability

the problem is not Google they have released the source code its not your phone maker motorola /htc

they make some good hardware, its vrz thats preventing you access to your own phone.
