Razr M - Can't transfer pictures from internal storage to SD card?

I am having an issue with my Razr M with transfering pictures from my internal storage (gallery) to my SD card. I have had this phone for a little over a month and had transfered pics once before the Jelly Bean update. Now the option to transfer anything from the phone to SD card has disappeared.

Above is the link for verizon support on how to do the transfer. This is what it says:

Transfer from internal device storage to a removable SD card

From a home screen, select Apps ( located at the bottom).
From the APPS tab, select Settings.
From the DEVICE section, select Storage.
From the INTERNAL STORAGE section, select Manage internal storage.
Select (check) Pictures / Movies.
Select Move.

MY problem is the "select Manage internal storage" option has vanished from my phone! SO I can't move anything on my phone to SD card.

How do I get this fixed? Anyone else having this problem? I have unmounted and remounted my card and have turned off my phone a few times to see if it would reboot and reappear...but nothing has changed.

What I do is just attach the phone with a USB cable to a PC.

Then copy files from "internal storage" to "SD card"

I ran into this yesterday. I called VERIZON tech support and they truly believed the "Manage Internal Storage" should be on the phone and the fact that it was not surprised even their Tier 2 specialist. She thought maybe it was because I was so low on internal storage that it caused the managing function to disappear. By the way, the fact that pictures and movies you take/make are default stored internally with RAZR M having just 8 GB is not really a good idea either. We ended up moving everything to SD card using "Files" app on the phone, but some experts like other apps. You can see their answer at:

Now back to the lack of "Manage Internal Storage"...as it turns out, my husband has the same phone, and had used very little internal storage. I checked his "storage" app and sure enough NO "Manage Internal Storage" I have two boys that have regular DROID RAZRs so I checked theirs...and sure enough they have "Manage Internal Storage." So, I hope that Verizon reads this thread...it will save them time in helping customers. Also, I hope whoever left it out AND defaulted the storing of pics/movies to the internal storage offers a patch to change BOTH things: default store to SD card if one is installed/mounted, and put the "manage internal storage" BACK! Meanwhile, I recommend you change storage location AND use a file manager app to move data if you are running into space limitations.

Not sure if this will help, but this is what I did and I think it worked?

1. Hit your menu button on your home screen.

2. Then hit the button/icon that says Files.

3. Next, Device storage, which is on the top on mine.

4. Find your pictures and hold your selection down till in is highlighted. Mine said "Pictures" and had hundreds of items, compared to the other files.

5. You will find a icon (of six to choose from) along the bottom. It's the third from the left, a box with an arrow pointing to the right in it. Select it. It should then flash "locate a destination".

6.Choose the "1 selected" on top, next to the "file" looking icon.

7. Then pick "SD card"

I think this worked for me, hope it helps...

I have this same problem with the Razr Maxx after the Jelly Bean update (VZW updated my phone 3/23/2013). The option was there before, now it is gone.

This answer is **************. I have been on the phone for 2 DAYS trying to get a straight answer from Verizon about this problem. They keep giving me the same answer. LISTEN UP!!!! THERE IS NO LONGER A MENU ITEM CALLED Manage Internal Storage available. I just got this piece of crap phone how do I use an sd card for storage of downloaded Apps and music??? I have podcast that are taking up the internal memory. I'm so dissatisfied I may chuck the phone and get a windows 8 phone. At least it does what it says it will do.

Although I am unaware if my phone had the manage internal storage prior to the JB update, it does not have it now.

Regardless, I normally use a file manager app such as ES File Explorer to move files between the internal storage and the SD card.

Thanks for the tip. This worked for a folder with a few files, but unfortunately not a picture folder with lots of files. I finally gave up and copied everything to my laptop so I wouldn't lose them when I get yet another new phone. I am waiting for a replacement phone now - on day 5 of ownership, I took my Razr M out of it's flip stand in the morning and the camera glass was cracked. I am torn between waiting for the insurance company to get the phone in stock to replace this one, or taking my business elsewhere. There are many things I like about the phone, but also many things that make it inferior and "user unfriendly" as compared to the 2-1/2 year old Droid 3 it replaced. The service at the Verizon store definitely left a lot to be desired when I went for assistance about the storage issue and the cracked camera glass.

I just tried scout25's method and it worked on my Razr M. He only left out one final step. I will copy his post and and add my step in color. Thanks scout25!

I also moved the files icon to a "tools" file on my home screen to make it quicker to move them to my sd card.

I'm going to try it on my husbands Razr Maxx HD. Should work, I will only post again if it does not.

Easy solution. Open your camera like you are taking a pictuure. Bottom left touch the sprocket icon for settings. A pop up window will appear with yoour camera settings. Scroll down and press on storage location. Here it gives you the option to select SD card. I did this for my wife's RazrM and her pictures now go to SD card when taking them.

The guys at my local Verizon store figured this out for me the other day when we were trying to back up all my data while trying to find me a replacement phone. What you've suggested is, I believe, what they did.

There directions, with that last line, will work, not only for photos, but for documents and some apps also. The problem is not with Verizon. As opus01robin so delicately explained, there is no management option now. This went away with the Android JB update. It also did away with one of the USB management options. You can use the Files manager as above to move many things. It's cumbersome but doable.

I just wanted to mention that if you want to move pictures or video files using Scott25's method, it would be helpful to know that your pictures and videos may not actually be located in folders named pictures or videos. On mine, those folders were empty and on checking a folder named DCIM it listed 2 objects. On opening this folder there was a sub-folder named camera with 62 files in it. This Camera folder held both pictures and videos, video's being all grouped together at the bottom of the list. This is the same for both Device Storage and SD Storage.

I had already designated the SD as the default location when I first got the phone by using the camera setting's icon (the gear looking thing) on the activated camera screen as indicated by ryder0442. If you remove the SD card to transfer files you might want to double check the settings when you return it to the phone as might default back to device storage when removed. Also you might want to put a gig or so of mp3 music files on your SD while you have it in your computer as the Rocket Player app is pretty good and is free.

With the new update on Droid Razr phones by Motorolla there is no longer a "manage internal memory" section in the storage section. After going through 2 people at Verizon I was transferred to Motorolla, he walked me through another way to store all my pictures on my SD card. Verizon needs to learn how to do this, I am not sure how to make them aware. Below is what Jason from Motorolla sent me:

TRANSFERRING FILES

1. OPEN FILE

2. OPEN DEVICE STORAGE/ SD CARD

3. DCIM AND OPEN CAMERA FOLDER

4. IF PHOTOS ARE LOCATED TAP AND HOLD UNTIL IT WAS HIGHLIGHTED

5. TAP 1 SELECTED AND CHOOSE SELECT ALL

6. AFTER SELECTING ALL TAP THE FOLDER ICON WITH AN ARROW POINTING TO THE RIGHT

7. TAP SELECTED IN THE UPPER LEFT HAND CORNER

8. CHOOSE THE LOCATION

9. IF YOU CHOOSE THE LOCATION TAP THE MOVE BUTTON ON THE UPPER RIGHT HAND CORNER

I tried this and even though my procedure was not exactly the same, I was successful in moving my pictures & videos to the SD card.

I used steps 1 through 3...went to Pictures and found nothing. I noticed DCIM (Digital Camera Image Management) and found my pictures there.

4. I selected the Camera file, then "Move this folder" from the menu (three dots) in the lower right.

5. "Select a destination"...moved to SD card, then DCIM, select Move (upper right of screen).

It takes a while but it works.

I am having the same problem. lost my pictures. Can't find them anywhere. I do not have "manage internal storage" either. I am dissatified with my droid too. My husband has windows phone and he likes it

I talked to the online help team and it worked so this is what they said.

1- go to apps

2- go to files

3- click device storage

4- look for then click the file named DCIM

5- Then when the file is opened click and hold the file named CAMERA

6- Click the transfer button (little box at the bottom with an arrow pointing right)

7- At the top click "1 selected"

8- when the menu drops down select SD Card

9- Click "move" on the top right corner

After the Transfer is done you can go back and delete the whole file.

It works for camera taken photos, but as for the messaging photos you will do the same thing only this time you will go under the file called MESSAGING and do the same steps as listed above.

I hope this helps everyone like its helped me! :smileyhappy:

I followed the steps and everything looked like it worked. then I went back in to my storage to look and see if the internal storage went down and it stayed the same.

How do you know if it really worked?

Hi Raven072311 - Let's free up some space! Have you tried restarting the device since you moved the pictures? When checking the files are you seeing duplicates among the internal storage and the SD card? I look forward to getting this resolved!

Some times after doing file transfers using the files app, you need to power cycle the phone for the changes to register right, least my razr m has this issue.
