junk text messages

How do I stop getting junk texts send to my cell? They all seem to be about getting money. I have blocked some numbers on myverizon web site. But they seem to only allow 5 numbers to be blocked and all have an expiration date. What I really want to do is only allow text messages from people on my contact list. Any way to do that? Thanks

We have exactly the same problem: lots of unwanted incoming messages from non-verizon subscribers driving up our phone bill.

I just got off the phone with Verizon Customer support. They apparently can not globally block incoming messages that will be charged to the account. They can shut off incoming text messaging entirely - free and paid - but then you don't get ANY messages - Verizon or otherwise.

You can increase the number of messages you can personally block to 20 numbers, but they'll charge you an extra $5/month for the privilege - and then you'll run out of blocking capability after 20.

It makes no sense at all to me that they can't block incoming fee-based messages, but apparently they can't. (Of course, it is likely a great revenue stream for them, so why would they want to?)

FYI - My wife does receive incoming and outgoing texts, which we pay for, however since I do not send out texts I don't expect to receive them, anyway most of them have been from Verizon, therefore I have not paid for texts received last month nor this month and I will continue until I start sending out texts on my phone.

Besides, both of our numbers have been on the no call list for years.
