GTalkService starting automatically when turning on Droid phone

I've noticed the service called GTalkService starts automatically after the Droid phone has been returned on. This service starts automatically regardless of the "Automatically sign in" option in the Talk client.

This wouldn't be so bad except the service itself takes up approx 6.0-6.5MB of RAM when it doesn't appear to be doing anything.

Does anyone know if GTalkService handles something else besides the Talk client? Is there a way to disable this service from starting up with the phone?

I would also like to know how to disable or delete GTalkService and Corporate Calendar, both of which start automatically and neither of which I use or have any plans to use. Thanks!

GTalkService is simply the Google Talk application and there is no way to prevent it from starting up with the phone. The same goes for the Corporate Calendar. These can be closed, but each time you turn your phone off then back on it will start again (I don't personally restart my phone that often).

Bah. That's annoying. Can the Corporate Calendar be deleted from the phone? It bugs me that it's always running, and it seems to re-load itself every time my phone goes to sleep and then wakes up.

You may never see this or you may well have figured it out by now, but for anyone who may find this thread via Search, there are 2 things you need to do.

Go to your GTalk app

Click the menu icon

Click more when the menu pops up

First, click settings and deselect automatically Sign In

hit the back arrow icon

Click the menu icon

Click more when the menu pops up

click Sign Out

If you have a Task Killer installed, you want to go ahead and run it to kill the leftover background task.

Otherwise, turn off and restart your phone to accomplish the same thing

While I can understand your concern, Android's OS only really runs 6 Applications at the same time, depending on what you use at the time. You can find these out by pressing the home button for about a second.

The way the OS works is that it'll start up a lot of processes/applications at first but they will only be on standby. Don't worry, your phone was created to handle these things. Where it gets sticky is when you have a plethora of applications that all start at the same time.
