Is the jellybean update optional?
The update normally will ask if you want to run the update. however I have read here that in some situations the update will install by its self.
My own experience has been a notification asking if I wanted to update. And one of my phones is a Motorola Razr
Well I hope I get to make a choice as I can't afford things to go wrong. Battery already doesn't last and anything else would be a nightmare for me. I'm not good at all with tech stuff even as simple as soft reboots or safe mode.
If you go into settings/ manage apps/ and find the download manager app and disable it you should not recieve the notification anymore...It worked on mine...matt
well I did that and now the download manager app is gone from manage apps - this is the worst phone I have ever had - thanks for the reply
When viewing Manage Apps, All ... scroll to the very bottom of the list for your disabled apps (that way you can re-enable them if you need to).
This is NOT the worst phone by far!!! Go try a Droid Eris or an LG Vortex and you wll beg for your Razr back...I have had mine for a year and can get a full days use (unless i use the crap out of it)
I use to get good battery life a long time ago - now 2 hours of use and its time to charge or goes dead immediately. I live in a major metroplex area and have a hard time getting or keeping connections never happened with the original. Nothing against you thanks for your input.
Thank you
No
Ahem.....
Verizon recommends you update to Jelly Bean as from their web communications page. it does not say you have to install it.
No provider can make you updated your phone.
Between all the whiners and complainers of different devices I read about on twitter, facebook and Google+ who keep asking for this update or that it makes me cringe. Then on the other end we have folks updating and complaining about assorted issues that make the phone unusable I see a person cannot win.
I have noticed on my Motorola Razr (which I manually updated from my sd card and not ota) the update was issue free. On my LG Spectrum I have received two updates, from hooking up to my computer and updating that way. OTA was just crapping out on the LG so if a person wants to update then I advocate the ways I have done it.
But if a person is not lucky enough to catch the phones asking if you want to install versus having it install without a persons permission, then something is really screwed up. any update should be via choice, not force.
You have a choice for a few days, then it will automatically update. Evidently, there may be "work arounds" to prevent the install, but that simply proves it is not optional. My install went smoothly also, but I did a factory reset and cache clear using the Matt Groff utility to get totally back to stock first.
well it would seem we went to the same website for a work arounds.
Your analogy of maybe having a few days to accept the update would seem to be the case.
However via verizons own announcement page they say its "Recommend " kind of like verizon does not know what recommends means.
painful2, it's our goal to provide you with the best wireless experience on your device! The software update is implemented by the manufacturer of your device to improve the performace of it, remove bugs, and prevent future issues. As a result, it's not optional. However, I trust that you will be pleased with the changes that it brings to your phone. LasinaH_VZW VZW Support Follow us on Twitter @VZWSUPPORT
