Hey Allvarsity,
I am trying to complete this mod (it's something I had on my last phone) but it is not working. I have completed all of the steps successfully, but in the end it does not work. The phone does still dial and connect with voicemail, but then it keeps asking for my password. My dialing sequence in my "Voicemail" setup is *86,,,XXXX# (XXXX=my password). Also, I found that you do not have to enter *86 as outlined in your step 2. You can touch the menu key (3 dots) in upper right corner of dialer without needing to enter *86. Also, in step 6, I hope you meant touch to the "right" of the 6. I also tried using the "Wait" option without success.
Have you tested this setup? Does it work for you? How old is your Razr M? Mine is 1 week old. I am running Android 4.0.4, the latest Verizon tells me is available.
Any help to sucessfully complete saving your password for voicemail would be appreciated. I have read quite a bit and experimented alot with no success yet.
Thanks all!
I have my Maxx set up like above except I am using two commas instead of three. I have found that if I have a voicemail in the notification bar and I pull it down and access from there...it works perfectly. If I dial Voicemail as a contact or from the dialer, it asks for my password. Does yours work from the notification bar? Hope that helps.
I am having the same experience as Indian.
OK, so after speaking with Verizon Tech Support, I found that they have no helpful info; well at least the guy I was talking to. Being a guy who has been around the block a few times, I know that I could easily have reached a "junior" tech advisor who does not know as much as a more seasoned , experienced tech person. In any event, I have experienced the same success as Indian - if I access voicemail from the notification bar, my preset password will work and access my VM. However, if I try to access my VM from the "Voicemail" Icon, it will not work. Hmmmm...., interesting. At least I now know that I am not a "freak" and others are experiencing the same thing. One thing that I thought I experienced, but as of yet is not confirmed, is if the "Voicemail Icon" method acts differently if there is a VM message waiting, as opposed to when there is no "unheard" messages. I thought one time it worked when there was a message "waiting", and it did not work when there were no "unheard" messages...but I'm not certain. I will keep experimenting with other options and update this post as I learn.
Update: So, after a few days of receiving messages and experimenting with different setups, I have found that the best solution is what Indian and Allvarsity have experienced, above. Saving the password only works when dialing voicemail from the notification bar. It will not auto dial your saved password if you access voicemail from the main Voicemail Icon, or from your phone book (People). I'll just always call from the notification bar. Thanks to all for your help.
I cant believe Verizon does not know how to set this up. SMH. Anyway here it is for all who want to do it.
Start the phone app. Hit the menu button, then settings. Under "other call settings", hit voicemail, then press setup.
Change it to read *86,,PINN# (replace "PINN" with your 4 digit code, be sure to leave the #)
This will auto dial voicemail, enter your pin, then play new messages automatically.
