I am having trouble sending Text messages from home on my Samsung SIII. All other features on the phone are working fine. Can I resend failed messages? What can I do to improve sending success?
Did the problems start after the 4.1.2 update last week? I had issues with text messages after the update as well.
Hey t-powell2!
Now, I know firsthand I do probably 90% of my own personal communication via text messaging. So, with that said, we've got to get you back in the texting game ASAP.
Of course, I'd love to gain a better understanding of things before we delve further. First, are issues only doors? What's your zip code? Do you show sufficient bars on your phone? And do you use a third party text messaging app (if so, please remove and use the stock app)? For now though, please start by clearing out your text threads. Then go to settings > application manager > all > messaging > clear data and force stop. Then remove/reinsert the SIM to resync with our network. Finally, test things out and let us know how it goes. Oh, and you can resend failed messages by clicking on them once more.

I have issues with text message not sending since the 4.1.2 upgrade. :smileysad:
Reboot of phone does not help.
A factory Rest DOES NOT fix this... all it does is causes you to lose everything.. I have been having the same problems every since the Firmware update last week. So i read on here that a factory reset was the answer... it is NOT.! so not only do i still have the same problems. but now i lost everything... great.....
The problem messages appear to be mostly sent from inside a house, but with
two or more bars showing. The phone works fine for phone calls. My zip
code is 75094.
I tried clicking on a failed message as you suggested and it only opens the
message on another screen with no apparent way to resend it. However, I
just tried clicking on the orange exclamation point beside the message and
this triggered a resend attempt. However, after several minutes, the
message had not been sent and finally failed. I tried a simple test message
from the same location and it immediately sent. Could the transmission
problems be related to the length of the message? One potential flag for
the problem could be the Wi-Fi symbol. The phone shows to be connected to
my home n-band router with a green up arrow but an orange down arrow.
I followed your recommendation for clearing out the text threads. Then when
I clicked on the exclamation mark for the message that had failed twice
before, it went immediately. Hopefully this will resolve my issue.
Thanks for your help,
Tom

Thanks for the post, as I was about to go down the same reboot path. Definitely something going on with SMS text messages. My wife and I are have the same issues as above with the S3. My wife recently received a wrong message from her daughter (iPhone4). You could look at both screens and they showed different messages.
I have been having the same issue since the update. I talked to a guy in the verizon store and his basic answer was "ER I dunno that sucks." I have done a factory reset, shut down the phone removed the sim card and replaced it, even tried a tribal rain dance and all to no avail. Since I do most of my communication through texts this is beyond inconvenient when I have to restart my phone multiple times to send a message. I also have this awesome new feature, besides when the texts just don't send, sometimes it does send but tells me it didn't so my friends receive multiple of the same message. I appreciate becoming one of those people.
Hello and happy Sunday SanEric, I wanted to do a pulse check with you and your text message concern. May I ask are you still having an issue? If so, please advise as to how much available device memory do you have on the phone? Also, can I assume that there isn't any physical or liquid damage on your S III? If you can share the status of your concern then that would be great. I'm looking forward to your reply.Thank you...Arnett_VZWPlease follow us on twitter @VZWSupport
@travbobI see you've tried a number of troubleshooting steps to resolve the device problem! I would love to help.Is this happening with every text you send or is it happening intermittently? Do you get an error message when this happens or does it appear to be sent? Lastly, are you using any 3rd party messaging applications? If so, I recommend removing the application http://vz.to/15iSzVF and retesting. Please let me know so I can further assist. Thanks!AnthonyTa_VZWPlease follow us on twitter @VZWSupport
Thank you for trying all of these steps t-powell2! Your effort is very much appreciated. I was able to confirm that there are no known issues in your area. Clicking on the exclamation point is certainly the right way to resend the message. Thank you for pointing that out. I do not believe that the issue is related to the length of the text message. Have you tried to send a shorter message? Try to turn off WiFi and send again. Are these group messages that you are sending or just a standard individual text? Please share the details so that we can assist better. Thank you, Lena_VZWPlease follow us on twitter @VZWSupport
Have been having this same trouble as well. Have done all the steps of rebooting, removing sim card, etc. MULTIPLE times per day I will click on messages and it will simply say "No Messages", then reboot and they are there. This is EXTREMELY inconvenient when text is a major way of my communications. Having to reboot 8 times a day cannot be the norm. Considering what we pay VZW per month i would hope this gets some attention promptly.
Hi Athens888,A rebooting phone is no good! I know how important it is to have a properly working device especially text messaging. Let's get this fixed. Thank you for all the troubleshooting that you have completed. The next step would be a Hard Reset on the device http://vz.to/LfV00q to repair any corrupted software. Keep me posted.Thanks,Pamela_VZWPlease follow us on twitter @VZWSupport
Pamela;
Thank you for the response. We have already done the hard reset twice! The unit does not reboot on its own...it is rebooted so that the messages will show up again and the messaging app will work...if only briefly (rebooted on average 10 times per day). It is the stock messaging app and there are only a few apps added to the phone. This is my wife's phone and it is mainly used for texting and a few calls. Maybe a web search here or there if one of our kids gets on it. There is something wrong with this phone...i have the same samsung s3 and do not get these errors/problems and mine is used a heck of a lot more than hers. If you google this problem it is well known and something should be done. I think we should get a replacement, but we shouldn't have to pay for the deductible considering what our monthly bill is. I can lease a Mercedes for the same as I pay VZW for cell service!

I'm having same issue - failed text messages....BEYOND FRUSTRATED. I've rebooted, pulled out SIM blah blah blah and still fail to send. It doesn't matter if I'm home with WiFi or on the move. The fail seems to happen more with the pics than anything else. The pics, videos and texts are NOT large files so WHY oh WHY doesn't work??? This issue has been going on for the past few weeks since update.
Hey there bronxcat,I am sorry to hear of the issues you are having with text messages. I mostly communicate through text messages, so I would be just as upset if mine wasn't working. Let's get you back up and running. Are you using the stock messaging application or a third party application? Are there only specific contacts you are having issues with? Please place the device in safe mode,http://vz.to/NnpVJG, and try sending a text again.Keep us updated with results.Nicholas_VZWPlease follow us on twitter @VZWSupport
I am also having an issue with failed text messages. I have tried re-booting (occasionally this helps for about 5-10 minutes, but then they start failing again). It only occurs in my home, worse when I'm connected to wi-fi. I've pulled the sim card, battery, booted in safe mode. I've done everything I've seen suggested. NOTHING is working consistently. It all started with that ridiculous update that installed that caller ID bloatware (not happy about that, by the way).
We want you to love and enjoy all of your wireless device and services. Text messaging is one of the most popular means of communication in today's wireless world. Rest assured that we are committed to getting this issue resolved for you carin380. May I ask what Android and software version do you have installed? Is there any physical/liquid damage on the device? How much available device memory do you have? Try deleting some of the text conversation, reboot, & retest. If the issue persist then please let us know, just in case more assistance is needed.Thank you...ArnettH_VZWFollow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
I have had nothing but trouble sending text messages since your last update. I have tried using both your app and Handcent and both have the same proble. I have tried everything you have already suggested and nothing seems to work. I have been trying to send a text message for the last two hours and can't. Please help me solve this problem. Thanks.
We understand you guys are trying to help but it seems nobody have gotten the fix from any of the suggestions here or someone would of mentioned what worked already.
Anyways, it's been happening on my wife's GS4, we both have the same phones but is not happening to mine. And both have the same firmware version and pretty much all the same settings.
So... this is what I found...
I was playing with it to kind of pinpoint what is causing it and it seems is a message length issue. The message that didn't go through was about 11 lines of text. Then I copied that message and pasted it to send it again but I deleted one line of text, and that didn't work. So I kept repeating the same until I reached 2 1/2 lines of text and it went through.
So I was able to break down the original message like in 5 different texts and everything went through... Go figure...!
But it was that particular text... I tried a different text which was about 12 lines of text that in the past worked and pasted it and sent it again and it worked. So maybe a computer programmer can figure it out cause I can't... lol. All I know is that I was able to find out what failed and what worked in order to send that text.
Can someone else try and report back if the same works for them?
Happy copy / pasting... lol
Theschanz,If you have also completed a factory reset http://vz.to/16pEsMH and determined it's not your location please accept my follow request, follow me and send me a direct message with your mobile number so I may review options. Thank you. TominqueBo_VZWPlease follow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
Thanks for the tip, SRTKID. I have forwarded your test results to the software development team to report this. Thanks for everything all of you have done thus far. This has been reported and it was recommended that a hard reset be done, but since that hasn't helped we want to advise the software development team of the problems in order to get a resolution. YAY! At least it's not just me. I've had the 'failed text message' problem since the last update months ago. I've spent way too long on the phone with customer service and gotten no where. First time I called I was told they had received calls about the problem all day and they would clear out some blah blah (don't remember what) and that would fix it. It didn't. The second time I called I went through all the same tests and questions again (even though the first time I was told I wouldn't have to if the problem recurred) and was told it my phone's problem, not Verizon's. I suspect it may occur most often when connected to wifi, but since my phone automatically connects (something else I can't seem to stop) I don't always notice. I suspect this new automatic connection with wifi is to keep the data down, but it also drives me crazy.
Here's hoping for a fix soon!!
It's not just you. I've been having the same problem lately. It seems to occur most often when I'm trying to send a multimedia text or when I text to two recipients simultaneously. Last night I tried to send a short, one-sentence text to my wife and daughter FOUR TIMES, and it failed every time. Sometimes a short text will take 30 seconds to a minute to send. It's very frustrating.
I always have at least two or three bars. I live in zip code 43081. It happens regardless of whether I'm connected to WiFi at home or the 4G network at work.
I think this thread makes it pretty clear that this issue is NOT a "glitch" on our individual devices. Same here: S3, texts started failing about two or three weeks ago; all of a sudden, while nothing had changed in terms of sending locations, etc. I just posted this question on facebook, and within minutes, I got responses from other Verizon users who have noticed the same issue. Verizon needs to fix this ASAP.
SAME exact problems on my SG3! Except mine can be only 3 short words, still says fail. Often times the recipient actually received my text, even though I receive a "Failed" alert. If I continue to re-send until it appears to send, my recipients may receive my message each time I resend, which is frustrating for them and me! I'm using the stock messaging app as well.
I live in zip code 37075 (not that I believe it makes a bit of difference as it appears to be occurring all over with SG3).

Same problem here, SG3, everything is stock, 4.1.2.
Using the stock messaging app, I used to be able to reliably and regularly reply to my morning walking group (and other groups) daily for many months, and suddenly about a week ago, group messaging began to fail sporadically. There is no pattern regarding 4G or Wifi or signal strength. My text (MMS) replies that are failing can be as short as "thanks". I've tried all the suggestions here, including clearing the cache, force stopping, restarting, and pulling the SIM.
Nothing on my phone has changed, it's only six months old. I don't download apps or games. Now I wish I stayed with Apple :smileysad:
Group texting is how we communicate, this is a huge issue for me!
Has anyone been able to solve this? I'd prefer to not have to download and figure out a new application.
Hi Wooderson!Group messaging is fun, but it's also productive when using it as a way to communicate with many users at once. Let's figure this out. I'd like to ask if the messages are failing to send, or failing to receive? Are all users having the issue on the same messages? Do you notice a pattern as to who doesn't get the message (for example, using the same device)? Please provide me with some additional information so we can work together on a resolution. Thanks!ChristinaB_VZWVZW SupportFollow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
I'm having the same problem as well and my phone is only 6 months old too...my messages just won't go through. I can receive them but can't send them. I've had my phone hard reset, sim card replaced, now they are saying hard reset again and if that doesn't work a replacement phone. Why would I refurbished phone after only six months ago I paid $150 for this phone. That's insane! The phone is still under a manufacturer warranty.

I was having similar issues as all who listed responses above. Using stock messenger app, was able to text fine until yesterday.
After reading through all of the responses and replies, and the lack of an update to fix this problem, I wondered if it was something a little more simple. I decided to delete old message strings, thinking maybe the memory had become too full. Sure enough, without doing anything else, it now works fine.
Give it a shot.
I had same problem sending messages. Try cleaning out your messages. I did that, and it works just fine now. No hard reset or even turning off my phone.
We want you to be able to enjoy all those messages naamha24! What messaging app are you using? What type error messages are you seeing when you attempt to send? Is this happening in more than one area?JonathanK_VZWVZW SupportFollow Us on Twitter@VZWSupport
I'm having the same problems with my son's S III-- we just bought it and gave it to him last night. There are no additional messaging applications, plenty of memory and it's essentially a clean install. Nevertheless, texting doesn't work (inbound or outbound). It sounds like there's a systematic issue here. Why aren't you trying to fix it?
I have the same issue, mine started the day I bought this phone! messages fail to go through, you resend multiple times only to find out the person got all of them and it never failed! I switched to a different app to text trying to fix the problem, no luck. As much as I like some of the options on the SIII, I will have to say the iphone just worked all the time. I don't know in the 3 years I had it that I had a message fail. SIII, fails 30% of the time. Same with group texts, they come back in a random order, they don't group together properly, you have to download messages from individuals, its horrible. These seem like they would be simple things to fix. It looks like I will be switching back to Apple, unfortunately.
Thanks so much for doing all that we have asked of you.
The software team requested some additional information in order to further investigate this major concern,
Does it only happen with SMS or is MMS also affected.
In the meantime, some of our techs recommend you go into the message settings and take the dashes out of the callback number and that that had worked for them. If it is enabled but does not have any dashes in the number, just disable the callback # completely, then pull the battery and sim and restart. We understand this has been working and would like you to try it and keep us posted until they get samples of phones having this problem.

Alright, I can only offer what worked for me. After trying all that junk with force closing, clearing data, unplugging my sim card...blah blah blah...I restarted and it hadn't worked. But when it went to the main screen after restarting I got a quick notification that my phone was set to Global Mode. So I went to Settings -> More Settings - > Mobile networks -> Click "Global Data Roaming Access" and set to "Deny data roaming access" -> Click "Network mode" and make sure it is set to "LTE/CDMA". After that my texts started going through again. I hope this helps someone other than me!
I did many of the things suggested by contributors (not vzw support) and I'm now able to send MMS text messages. I don't know which one fixed it but here's what I tried.
mickybe206 Dec 17, 2013 9:00 AM Settings -> More Settings - > Mobile networks -> Click "Global Data Roaming Access" and set to "Deny data roaming access" -> Click "Network mode" and make sure it is set to "LTE/CDMA". Worked briefly.
another thread Restart into Safe Mode. (power on, then press and hold Volume Down at appearance of Samsung logo). Text a picture to myself. It took a few seconds but it finally went through. Restart into regular mode.
another thread and my own ideas Delete old texts. Increase Text Message Limit to 350. Increase Multimedia Message Limit to 80
another thread Uncheck Enable callback number
Thank you to all contributors
I tried what you described and my messages are going through again. I hope this is a permanent fix. I've had the phone just one year and this is the first time this has happened. Thanks!
I am also having the sane issue. All old text messages are deleted. I can receive texts and make calls but all my texts say mesage failed. I have already rebooted my phone, my network is already LTE/CDMA. Help~!
mickybe206 Dec 17, 2013 9:00 AM Settings -> More Settings - > Mobile networks -> Click "Global Data Roaming Access" and set to "Deny data roaming access" -> Click "Network mode" and make sure it is set to "LTE/CDMA".
This worked for me (at least for now...) thanks
I am still not able to send messages after following the directions as above. Please help!
I also have this problem.

Why are you still asking people questions about their device and settings? It is 100% clear that the problem is on Verizon's end, most likely related to the recent software upgrade.
ejflor- We have to troubleshoot to ensure that we rule out all possible causes of the issue. You may feel that the update is 100% the cause whereas we can't afford to guess and have to ask the necessary questions to resolve the customer's concerns. We appreciate you being helpful and providing your input.
