downloading from HTC Android

I have my grandsons HTC Android phone. He died last April and my daughter has discontinued the service on the phone number. We would like to download his pictures and all data from the phone. I have the passcode to open the phone but can't get any drivers to load on my computer from the phone. I do not have software associated with this phone. Can anyone tell me how to download the information/messages/pictures/address book info, etc.????? My daughter would like to save all we can from his phone.... Thanks
