Having issues sending and receiving text messages between my samsung s4 and IPhone 4 and 4S ? I'm able to send/receive text messages other
android's devices.
@Johnbx,Text messaging is my main means of communication with family and friends so I feel your pain! But don't worry because I'm here to help get this resolved. You'll be texting to iPhone in no time! Are you having this issue only when sending or receiving text from people with iPhones? Does it happen with all iPhones or just a specific person's iPhone?Did you previously have an iPhone before activating your new S4? There have been several reports of people who previously had an iPhone but change to an S3 and are no longer able to receive SMS from other iPhone users who have iMessage turned on. This may also be the case with the S4. You need to go to https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do and unregister your old iPhone to resolve the issue. Once unregistered it may take a few hours before it updates and you're able to send/receive text message with iPhone devices that have iMessages turned on. Please give this a try and keep me posted if you need further assistance.JohnB_VZWFollow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
I have never owned a iphone and I am not recieving their text messages on time or at all with my galaxy s4. I want this problem fixed. I did just get a new phone number maybe those ppl who owned before me had a iphone and didnt unregister (which leaves me in a tough situation huh)?. I dont know what the problem is. But I am very un-happy. If you guys were to tell me that I could not reach almost my entire family, the father of my kid, and almost all my friends I would of never waisted my money on this phone. PLEASE FIX IT!
I found that if Mobile Data is turned off and you are connected to WiFi, you cannot send or receive text messages to phones using carriers other than Verizon. With Mobile Data off, I could send/receive texts to other Verizon phones but not to/from phones on AT&T or other carriers.
Hi Caitlin.mangan1992 I want to help find a fix to this tough messaging situation. Did the trouble start when you changed phone numbers or when you activated your new S4? Or was that done the same time? Are you only having trouble receiving messages from people who have iPhones? Or only people with a different carrier? Are you using any of the messaging applications downloaded from Google Play or the original pre-installed application? I'll be looking forward to more details. Thank youJenniferH_VZW Please follow us on Twitter @vzwsupport
OK. I can help you with the texting issue. After calling Verizon, and speaking with Samsung, neither one was able to help me with this same problem. I figured it out a few days later. You must own other apple products that use I messaging. Wether it is an iPod touch or iPad, these items can be used as long as you are running iOS 5 and newer. Go into your apple devices settings. Scroll down to messages. You will see "send and receive messages'. Make sure that your cell phone number is unchecked. If it is checked, then by default you are receiving the texts to those devices. It works perfectly now that I unchecked my cell number to receive text messages. Do not do a battery pull, or delete and add your contact. That's all none sense.
I am having the same issue with the S4 (just came over from iPhone 4S). It's only certain iPhone people that i can't receive from text messages from. I just un-registered. I will see if that fixes my issuse
I'm having a similar issue. Out of the blue, last Thursday, my texts stopped being received by a T-Mobile customer. I get their texts fine, and all my other contacts (amongst AT&T, Verizon and other T-Mobile users) send/receive just fine. We checked and I'm not blocked, and in fact the phone calls go through no problem. We've tried deleting each other from contact lists and then sending a text; again his come to me but he never gets mine. Very frustrating as this is our main form of communication and we are completely stumped by this.
I am having the same problem as well. I switched from a Verizon iphone 4 to a Samsung S4. I am not receiving any messages from iPhones, ESPECIALLY from other carriers.
I just switched to the Samsung Galaxy S4 on thursday night and I am not receiving texts from most iphones, even on the same carrier. I sometimes will get texts from one person using a verizon iphone but she is the only person that can get through. I traded in my iphone and it has already been shipped out from the store. Not sure what to do!
I would love to help you find a solution, knstn. iMessage is a handy iPhone feature but not switching if off when you switch to a non-Apple phone can mean you won’t get TXT and PXT from your iPhone-using friends. Since you no longer have your iPhone, give this a try: 1.Go to supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do. 2.Log in with your Apple ID and password. 3.Select the product you need to de-register (your iPhone, for example). 4.Click ‘Unregister’. 5.You’ll see the message ‘Are you sure you want to unregister and delete this product?’ – Click ‘Unregister’ again. **Important info** By un-registering your iPhone from your Apple ID through the Apple site, it won’t have access to the App Store or content you’ve purchased unless you reregister it. Let me know if this helps. ChaunceyM_VZWFollow us on twitter @VZWSupport
Hi Chauncey--
I un-registred my phone as you suggested. I asked my coworker to send me a message from her iphone and she is getting an error when she attempts to do so. The text messages are still not going through. Please advise.
I have exactly the same reason. I switched from iPhone 4s to Galaxy S4 and my GF can't text me anymore. FYI she has iPhone 5. I can text her and she will see my text, but she can't reply back to me. I already unregistered my iPhone, but still no luck.:smileysad:
I found the answer today when a friend and I realized I have not been getting her texts anymore on my Galaxy S4 from her iPhone 4. When she sent me a text with a simple text message such as "test", the message came through. Then she tried sending me longer texts, which would go through UNLESS she used her emoji emoticons -- then the text would not go through. This happened time after time. Now as long as she doesn't use any of those, I get her texts just fine The funny thing is, she sent a group text with an emoticon in it the other day, and I did get that one. I have no idea why this matters except the Galaxy S4 no longer has the emoticons on its keyboard except the simple smiley face which kinda stinks. I hope this helps some of you out there.
Thanks for trying Lowe23mi. Our control is limited in a situation like this, as this is an Apple exclusive app we don't directly support. Did you check with the iPhone users to see if they tried turning off iMessage?JonathanK_VZWVZW SupportFollow Us on Twitter@VZWSupport
This sounds crazy and stupid,
but you have to call your friend that has you on their iPhone and have them reboot their iphone.
I had to do it with my sister and several friends that had iPhones, and it worked.
Also turn off ichat on your old iPhone.
S
Sunny it may sound crazy and stupid BUT !!! IT WORKS !!! Thank you so much :smileyhappy:
You need to un register your IPhone from Itunes. It'll take a week to 30 days before Apple recognizes that you're no longer an Iphone user.
You can also simply change your Apple ID which will also correct the issue
I'm having same problem, plus another.
Added Samsung Note 3, dropped Iphone 4. However, no one who has my number saved as an iPhone can text me - message says delivery failed. Also, no one I had saved as an iphone number in my contacts transferred over to my new phone. Those numbers are just gone. I was referred to the samsung software for transitioning from apple, but that failed too.
STeve
If you have not already logged into iCloud or iTunes to delete your device, you will need to do so. Or you can change your Apple ID as a work around. Once you do that, all of your messages should come in.
Here is something to try.
If you tell the person who is trying to text you to go into the imessage settings there is a slider setting that says "Send as SMS" this is for when imessage is unavailable or the person that you are texting does not have imessage. One the slide is set to the green, you should be getting texts from the iphone user.
Hope that helps!
I tried that before. It was already set that way. The I phone is an I phone 5. Any other ideas?

Did you try unregistered your Iphone? It'll take about 30 days before Apple recognizes that you're no longer an Iphone user.
this is ridiculous. I unregistered my iphone over a month ago. I still can't receive texts from iphone users.
Download the app: backup assistant. Go onto your Verizon wireless acct...and click on manage my contacts. there is a red box that says "SYNC"....click on it and wait for it to sync..... this is a quick fix and all your contacts will be able to reach you now.
By any chance did you ever resolve your issue? I have the same problem right now where some iPhone users can not send me text messages. I appreciate any help!
Progress so far:
Unregistered device via website, still not working.
Waited a week, still not working.
Called Apple Customer Support, 1-800-275-2273. The automated system wanted me to purchase a service ticket for $20. I repeated "unregister iPhone," which of course is not an option and confused the automated system. After about 5 iterations, the automated system put my through to a representative. The Apple representative ask what I needed; I told him I need to confirm iPhone is unregistered. He checked and said it was NOT unregistered, even though I did it online and is completely gone when viewing online. He proceeded to unregister my old phone from the back-end. He said give it 24 hours. He did not ask for any payment or anything like that.
After 24 hours, still not working. I called Apple again. Repeated some nonsense to the automated system until it forwarded me to a live person. This time the representative seemed more eager to have me purchase a service ticket. I explained my situation and of course she could not even begin to answer my questions. So a senior supervisor spoke to me. He confirmed that my device was unregistered but that it might take more like 30 days before new iPhone users see that I don't have an iPhone. The real problem, however, is with existing iPhone users that have my phone in their device. He said ultimately each iPhone user that had me stored as an iPhone would have to delete text conversation, delete contact, and then it should work but not guaranteed. He offered his direction contact info so that I can have each and every individual who is having problems contact him and he could resolve it, phone by phone. And by the way, this most abysmal solution was also free of charge.
So practically speaking, it seems that you must at least call once to confirm that your unregistered. Then have all your most common iPhone contacts hold down the Message button and send as SMS. This seems to stay as default. As for everyone else who might contact you or the hundreds of other let frequent contacts, this really isn't a solution at all.
The only workable solution is to disable iMessages beforehand...well that's great now that I've disconnected and turned in my iPhone!!!
I unregistered my old iPhone and was receiving texts from some iOS users, but not all. The fix for the others was to tell them to go into "Settings|Messaging" and select "Send as SMS", which uses SMS if iMessage fails. If you ask me, that should be the default, but it is not. That fixed the problem.
Just an FYI, this problem is only for SMS--that is why group messages or messages with pictures are still received fine (for those of you that are receiving them)--they are not going through iMessage (and therefore failing).
HTH and Happy Holidays.

I have tried all of the suggestions included in this thread, and nothing worked. When I unregistered my iPhone 4, I was able to receive texts from all contacts including iPhone users for a couple of weeks. And then a few days ago it stopped. I have talked both to Verizon Support and Apple Support multiple times. I have changed my Apple ID and password. I have deleted my iCloud account. I have synced my Contacts using Backup Assistant.
Nothing works! This is an outrage to say the least. My iPhone was traded in so I have no access to it. Why weren't we warned?
Someone needs to be held accountable and resolve this. I have no idea what messages I am not receiving.
I have to say - you are getting a run around. My wife and i have the same issue with texts from some of our friends with iPhones. We are both on android and have never had iphones. This run around about switching from an iphone to android is crap. The culprit is the iphone users using imessage and including imessage emoticons.
The answer is obvious and the simplest explanation. This is an apple issue with the users using imessage - not an issue with your phone. SMS is a standard that imessage is not adhering to (typical apple move). The issue is only with iphone users using imessage and including the imessage emoticons (i have a few iphone friends who are obsessed with these). If apple did not screw around with the standard and try to use their proprietary messaging system to send sms there would be no issue. Of note - there does not seem to be an issue using hangouts To send sms from android to iphone (although i don't use emoticons) . Google seems to be able to do it with out screwing up the sms standard.
I had the same problem with Iphone users. I unregistered my iPhone and waited 30 days. I the texts from all my contacts that are using iPhone. Give it 30 days and see what happens.
Why should anyone have to wait 30 days to contact someone? It's a joke. Apple is up to it's usual "use us or be screwed" mindset and it's effecting anyone that leaves Apple for Android.
I recently switched from the iphone 4 to the Note3. I was able to fix the issue with my wife's iPhone but it's not working for a number of friends and family members. It is a joke that Apple doesn't have an easy fix for this and they think it is ok for it to take a month to resolve.
Davei (Jan 3rd reply) is correct, it is Apple's problem, but the fix is to have the iPhone users go into "Settings|Messaging" and select "Send as SMS", which uses SMS if iMessage fails. It is obvious that should be the default setting, but it is not.
brwebster614, this isn't a laughing matter to us. It's our priority to ensure that you're able to send/recieve text messages to iPhone users. We recommend that you contact your friends/family that have iPhones and advise them to edit your mobile number in their phone book. It's important that your number is entered as a ten digit mobile number (For example: 555-555-5555) Previously, as an iPhone user, your number is entered as 1-555-555-5555. The (1) simply needs to be removed. Keep us posted. LasinaH_VZWFollow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
i work with a friend who just received a new phone for Christmas. new service threw her sisters account. this number is brand new to her and she has the samsung s4. i have the apple iphone 4. for the first couple of days i was able to send her messages with no issue. then out of no where my phone started to register hers as an iphone. couldn't figure out why as she has never had an iphone. so i went to my settings and turned on the send as sms if imessage unavailable. that only worked for about 4-5 hours before they went right back to reading as an imessage. the only way i can text her is to turn off the imessages completely, which causes problems texting other iphone users. my mother in law who also has an iphone was unable to send me a picture of my son the other day due to the imessage was turned off. the only way to receive the message from the iphone user (my mother in law) was to turn the imessaging back on. this is very frustrating i shouldnt have to turn off and on imessaging everytime i am sending a message to two different types of phones. someone help fix this issue. it is also killing my battery to have to switch back and forth all day.
Yes this is an Apple problem. It appears that Apple wants to monopolize the text world by making the default be imessage on its phones. I had Droid from many years and last fall I switched to an iphone5. I hated it. After 2 months I traded it in for a new Droid. However, ever since I got the Droid back, I don't receive text from people with iphones unless they turn off thier imessage setting. All the Droid users think something is wrong with thier new phones, burt it is NOT the Droid equipment or systems...it is APPLE.
Hey lperritt,Let's keep you and your friend connected. That's odd that you are unable to text your friend with the S4 especially since shes never had an iPhone.Try deleting any text threads from here and deleting and re-adding her number and try sending the text again. Can you receive texts ok? Is this the only number you have troubles texting? Please provide additional details so we can continue to assist.NicholasB_VZWFollow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
You have to wait 30 days so Apple recognizes that the person is no longer an Iphone user. That happened to me and after 30 days it was fine. I mean the person can turn off their imessage in the mean time. Make sure they un register their iphone first and then turn off their imessage,
darwinely you are on the right track! There has been some messaging issues with customers moving from a Droid device to Apple and vice versa. To make sure you stay in touch, turning off iMessage from your iPhone 5 will help as well. http://bit.ly/JSBVY4 If you no longer have the device, you can unregister from Apple's site http://bit.ly/1hwkr1JAshleyS_VZWFollow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
Here is what I figured out and it works right away.
I have had great success with this and I hope it works for you as well.
Add me to the long list of people moving from iphone to Galaxy S4 and having text message issues. I've done the below "fixes" so far:
1. Removed my phone from my itunes/apple account
2. Reset my password on my apple account
3. Pulled my SIM card and battery for a minute
4. Asked one of my friends I can't receive texts from to reboot their phone
5. Turned off imessage on my iphone that is no longer active
It definitely seems random that some iphone users have imessage on (i've heard that was default with ios7). I only have this issue with a handful of friends, that I know of! They receive my messages fine, but I don't get theirs. It's not realistic for me to go through my approximately 60 or so friends/parents that I actively text with and ask them each to go into their phone settings and make sure SMS is selected. I'm sure many never power down their iphone (thanks Steve Jobs) so if that is a potential fix it may take awhile. Hoping there is another resolution soon. This is a BIG part of the reason my husband pushed me to bail on Apple. Yes, their products work great as long as you stay in their little apple world and only use their toys, but step outside and you are banished! Any updated help would be greatly appreciated!
IMessage can only be used between Apple devices. If you have non-Apple devices in your contact list, turn off iMessage in settings...

None of the above solutions have worked for me, as far as telling people I know to disable a function of their phone to contact me is utterly ridiculous. I am so ready to go back to a different carrier, a new number and a phone that does not require a data plan....I see a flip phone in my future and a much cheaper plan at that
We appreciate you trying all of the earlier suggestions, JackP3. We don't want to inconvenience you or your friends, and certainly don't want to see you leave. Just to confirm, have you tried sending a text message to the number 48369 with the word "stop" as your text? This should de-enroll your mobile number from Apple's servers so that customers with iPhones will no longer default to iMessage. It usually takes up to a day for Apple to remove your number from the servers though. You can also visit supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do and log in with your APPle ID from your previous Apple device and de-register your iPhone. I'm another user who just started not being able to send text messages to a iphone user. This started at the end of last week with my S3, and I just went to an S4. the iphone user can receive from all other parties and I can send to other iphone users on the same network (AT&T). We have no idea why she can't receive my texts, but I get her's just fine. We have tried turning off imessage and both deleting contacts.
It's about time to cut bait with these data plans and phones that no longer simply work as phones for basic tasks.
Turn off Imessage. Also un register your iphone. You may have to wait 30 days till Apple recognizes that you're no longer an Iphone user. Ask them to turn off their imessage in the mean time. See if that works.
