MMS Not sending, APN settings?

I've been checking the forums and there doesn't seem to be any direct answers to this problem so I thought I'd start a more detailed thread.

I have a Galaxy Nexus that has been pretty dependable until about a week ago. For some reason, it hangs on sending pictures via MMS. I can receive them but when I try sending, it won't go through. When I use ChompSMS, it shows the spinning "sending" circle indefinitely. When I try through the stock Messaging app, it just shows the word, "Sending" but never does.

Here's a list of what I've tried after searching the forums:

1) Reboot, no difference

2) Checked mobile data and it shows as allowed. Disable, re-enabled, rebooted, no difference.

3) Tried adjusting my APN settings but there are so many variable that I don't know which are accurate/current.

4) Sacrificed a chicken nugget to Zul. No difference. (Maybe no BBQ sauce next time?)

5) Powered down, pulled battery for five minutes, replaced battery and powered back on, no difference.

6) Tried sending with WiFi on then off, turned WiFi off before sending, turned WiFi off then power cycled, no difference.

7) Third party app to adjust APN settings and then reset to default, no difference.

I think that's everything, but I'm not positive. I've been working on it for a while. Question is, does anyone know that current and official APN settings for the Verizon network?

Also, I have to use a third party app to adjust my APN settings now. Going Settings>More>Mobile Networks no longer brings me to the APN settings. Is that from an update to 4.2.2?

Any help is appreciated. I'm not due for an upgrade for a while yet and I'm actually pretty fond of the phone. I can screen shot and post APN settings if need be.

Try sending yourself a picture text from your phone and see if that 'unhangs' things.

Appreciate the tip, that's something I tried with no change. I'm afraid that when it finally starts working, I'm going to have 60 MMS pics go out all at once.

I also tried dl'ing Verizon's messaging app and had the same results. I'm guessing there's a problem with the APN settings but I can't find any consistent or default settings to compare to.

Call customer service from another phone and ask them to reset the text message and picture messages from their end. They will likely ask you to turn off the phone and remove the SIM card for a few minutes, reassemble and boot up the phone.

I also am having numerous problems sending MMS messages. I also have attempted the troubleshooting tips suggested by MClark096. with no success. Please help. this is extremely frustrating.

If you find an answer I would love to see it. I have problems sending MMS messages as well. In one case one finally delivered three weeks after it was initially sent. They sometimes send and other times sit in a sending state for days to weeks.

Of course, I'm very sorry to learn you're having similar issues. But, we're here to alleviate them as best we can.

First, I have to ask what kind of troubleshooting you've gone through. A lot of steps provided by the original poster are fantastic and a great way to see if your problems differ at all. Also, are you using a third party messaging app? It's important in this case to make sure you uninstall all third party messaging apps and test via the stock app. For now, please remove/reinsert the SIM card after 30 seconds for a network refresh and we'll take it from there.

This is on a stock Verizon Galaxy Nexus with 4.2.2 using the default messaging app. Some MMS messages will send. Some fail. Two pictures were sent within minutes of each other from the same location with the same network state. One went and the other is still in a "sending" state over a week later. Once the message goes into the sending state we can't do anything to it. It stays in that state or eventually goes through. We have done a sim card pull, battery pull, tried 3G only, 4G, on wifi. I would look at the APN settings, but they seem to be hidden in 4.2.2. Data is enabled on the phone and it works some times, it is just unpredictable so far as to when it will work and when it will not.

Is there some other information you need from us to look into this further? I still have a message from last week sitting on my phone that won't send.

I have a very similar issue - I cannot retrieve MMS from outside VZW. I've gone through all the above troubleshooting, except I didn't sacrifice the chicken nugget. Perhaps this was my undoing. At any rate, I'd really like this issue looked into, if not fixed. Looking at you, Verizon.

Stock Galaxy Nexus, Stock Jellybean 4.2.2., Stock messaging app, Shot in both feet.

To Clarify:

I can both send and receive SMS/MMS (Verizon Customers only, however group messages from Verizon Customers fail sometimes.)
I can send and receive SMS to non-Verizon customers
I cannot receive MMS from non-Verizon - which is the crux of the matter for me.

As I'm sure you &/or your team has seen - this is a real issue, on STOCK Verizon devices, with stock messaging app, that has been going on for quite some time (I personally, have seen this issue since the purchase of my Google Nexus, which was back in November.) There are forums LOADED with complaints of the same thing all over Android forums.

As VZ customers we PAY for multimedia messaging service, & as it stands right now, this service is not working for us on a device that we PAID you for.

Please advise with a fix for this ASAP.

Who would have thought that mms woukd be soooo important you would have mutiny on the bounty. Here is something none of you have tried or admitted: doing system cache wipes and or a hard reset. Call customer service from a different phone. >Comments about other posters deleted<

yosraeprm I have previously Factory Reset the phone. The problems returns at least for me.

Thanks for trying rabscuttle. I was hoping a factory reset would have fixed the issue. At this time we may need to file a ticket with our network repair team so they can review your area specifically to see what could be causing this issue.

I'm having the same problem as well. Its not just me. My roommate too. This is what we've done so far since we both have Galaxy S3.

1. Reobooted the phones in hopes this resolves the issue. Some days it does some days it doesn't.

2. Turned WiFi off on the phone. No difference.
3. Turned 4G off. Again no difference.

4. I've done pretty much about every bit of troubleshooting that everyone else here has done to no avail.
5. I EVEN SACRIFICED CHICKEN TO MY CAT! Oh the irony. What's up with the chicken sacrifice?

6. I actually resorted asking those tech support guys at the Verizon store downtown in hopes maybe they had an answer.
a. Response was it was my WiFi until they couldn't get a MMS to send either. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
b. They also experienced my frustration and were clueless.

7. I contemplated switching carriers, but AT&T is my only other option and well their service here sucks.
8. I was actually rather happy with Sprint and since they don't have service here I was forced to switch to you guys.

9. Considering this was never an issue before the update I have to assume the update is to blame.
10. ITS OBVIOUS NO ONE AT VERIZON HAS RESOLVED THE ISSUE!

11. It has now been 15 minutes since I initially hit the send button to send a MMS.
12. It won't time out for another 15 minutes.

Finally it sent the MMS without me messing with the phone. Only took... 17 minutes. While I do appreciate all that Verizon has done to match all the discounts that I had with Sprint as a combat vet, I would be forever grateful if the MMS wouldn take less than 5 minutes to send.

Ok so I was messing around with my settings on my phone and decided to mess with the network settings. I didn't turn off my WiFi as I've determined that its not interfering with my phone whatsoever. I also didn't turn off WiFi for my phone as that wasn't the issue either. No restarting the phone, no wiping, and all that stuff. Simply put I was messing around with the phone's settings. I'm hoping what I've figured out here will help others with a similar issue.

For those of you having issues sending MMS with the Galaxy S3 follow these steps and do a test send...

1. Go into settings (the cog icon)

2. Tap more settings
3. Tap Mobile Networks
4. Tap Network mode
5. A pop up with the options Global, LTE/CDMA, GSM/UTMS will appear.
6. Select LTE/CDMA
7. Send a test MMS to whoever. If they get it then problem solved. If not then double check you're on LTE/CDMA

For those of you with different phones I don't know how you access the network settings on your phone, but its worth checking to make sure that you are on in fact on LTE/CDMA.

Hopefully this resolves the issue with MMS not sending on the Verizon network. :smileyhappy:

That's it, worked for me, sending mms ok. Alternatively this can be added and enabled via apn manager pro, but it has to be set as a system app to work

I was hoping that some of these fixes would help with my Galaxy Nexus, I'm also having problems sending MMS. Both people in my group are with Verizon, my husband's is the new Droid Razor and our friend has an iPhone. I'm stuck with this phone until my upgrade in February and would like to figure out a solution!

I was able to fix this problem fro group messaging on my Sansung Galaxy SIII by deleting all but one of the text messages in the group conversation. If you open the message application there settings for "Text message limit" and "Multimedia message limit" per conversation. It seems that when these settings are exceeded i was are unable to sent any more group messages. the individual messaging worked fine but not the group messages. Hopefully this will help others with similar problems.

I've been having the same problem and nailed it down to my use of Adblock Plus, which only works by using a proxy which caused the phone to not be able to send MMS. I had to turn it off. Maybe that helps someone, probably doesn't but you never know.

Texting is so 2007.

1. Put an email client on your phone.

2. Stop texting people.

3. Ask people to stop texting you.

4. Attach pictures to your emails.

5. Use Google Voice to send people's texts to your email.

So much easier!
