"Software Update Notification" every night on my samsung convoy 2

I keep getting a "Software Update Notification" every night on my convoy 2. This is a basic phone and I've updated its software via *228

But still I get this notification. If I select "OK" it will churn for a minute saying "connecting" but it must not be updating because the next night I'll get a

"Software Update Notification" This leaves the screens lit and runs down my battery. Is this a Verizon Update? I have no apps or data plan.

Thread above may help. It did for me. Seems if we have Data Block checked the download will not happen. Must go and un-check data block, and make sure you activate the new settings first, than go back into Phone Info and download the new update. Good luck

Depending on when you got the phone if you got the phone will old software then yes it may keep popping up that updates are available if you have no apps Italy be the operation system ( OS) but if it's the se update over n over you may want to contact Vzw

Convoy 2 here as well......

I got the update announcement, than after clicking OK, I get this "Connecting" icon and a spinning arrow counter clock wise and it never ends. My battery have drained down to 1 bar from 4 bars and still the "Connecting" message continues, so I stop this so I can again use the phone. Twice this has happen and I already updated using the *228

I don't have data or text or web or anything but basic phone calling on my plan, and I verified with Verizon Customer Service that none of the updates apply to me or my service. I don't want to turn on features I don't use or spend time on updates that are irrelevant. I am tired of this running down my battery. How can I make this stop, and please don't tell me to do it all anyway to appease Verizon. You have the technology to make it stop, because I don't pay for those "upgraded" features to begin with, so you're already blocking them! My next best alternative seems to be to keep my phone off unless I need it and downgrade my service to a lower limit plan.

I've a convoy 2 for six month. The phone works in places my old did not. Great battery life, I could a week between charges and still have 3 bars....about a week ago I got a software update notification, I hit the OK button,,,the next morning my phone was as dead as fried chicken. I put the phone on the charger, while on the charger I got another software update notification. I hit OK,,,,Next day, dead phone. My phone has died every night for the last few nights....Last night I got a software update notification,,,,I DID NOT HIT OK, I hit the end button and turned the phone off....This morning the phone has full power...

It seems to me the phone is trying to upload an update constantly all night long and this kills the battery.

The Samsung Convoy 2 has a new software update that became available at the end of May. This is what your phone is trying to download. When a new software is available, it will try to download on it's own. Do you currently have a Data Block or Download Block on your account? This may be the reason why it will not download successfully. Please remove any data or download blocks you may have on your account. After removing the block, retry to download the software. When this first started happening I had no blocks on my service, I have just recently blocked as many things as I could hoping to resolve the problem. Luckily , at this time of year my phone use is not critical. I will pay attention to the boards and try to set up my phone in a way that works. Is this happening to all Convoy2s, Perhaps I have an older model or a lemon of some sort.

i had the same problem. called Verizon, they removed my text block (i don't text), then i went thru the steps to update the Verizon software which were successful. he then restored the text block, now so far everything works. we'll see tomorrow if everything took.

i am also getting a nightly update on my 2 convoys for a week .. every morning the batteries are dead!! i don't know how to unblock data services using my verizon. do you need to be account manager to do this? i am not a happy camper either. VERIZON: PLEASE FIX THIS PROBLEM :smileysad:

I work for a business that has 200 of these phones and all are calling me with issues. We have data blocked on all phones to avoid charges for downloads. If I unblock the data from all of these lines will be charges for the software download as data content? There has to be a better way. Can you not block software updates on the samsung like you can on other phones?

Well sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and get the update, Most of the time it will help Device Go in good direction as with battery life and performance's with the Tower's) It's been a long time since i owned just a non smartphone but when i did and the updates came out for them i made sure to do the Update.. Br.

I can't find any blocks on my account but I still get the same notification every day.It says there's a download available but it won't download it.What do I do now???

call Verizon on another phone, you may have a block somewhere you don't know about. the Agent will temp remove the block while you're on the phone, then you can download the software.

here's what i did: there were no data blocks on my phone. i went to to the software updates section on the phone and checked for updates .. and there was one. i approved the update and the phone then downloaded the software .. powered itself off and then back on and then installed the update. i did this on both phones. i then checked update status and it was all good. apparently this needs to be done manually. hoping this fixed the problem

I would like to know why Verizon has not come on here and state that there will be no data charges for this update. Unless there is and they don't want to say anything... A reply from Verizon about this would be appreciated.

My husbands phone is also getting the software update. It will not update.There is no block on his phone. I have tried several times to update it manually and download fails. I have called Verizon and they tried to push the software to the phone and still no luck. I hope they get this fixed soon.

Funny that when I connect my phone to my computer and it checks for updates from Samsung, there are none. Verizon must be pushing this for their reasons, not to help users.

I too have had this problem recently. It is not pleasant to wake up to a dead cell phone battery when you know it was good when going to bed. I also tried the *228 update to no avail. I tried something on a whim though and it seems to have worked. I connected my Convoy 2 with the USB cable to my computer that is connected to the internet. I then used the phone menu and went to Menu - Settings & Tools - Phone Info - Software Update - and then Check New. With the USB it then checked and found an update that it proceeded to download and as other posts said it stops the phone from receiving calls for about 2 minutes while it downloads and then restarts the phone. You can then use the same process: Menu - Settings & Tools - Phone Info - Software Update - and then STATUS and find out what date and version of update you have on your phone. I did this on both my and my wife's phones as we both have texting and data turned off and it seems to have worked like it should. I just wanted to offer an alternative to having to turn on the data and texting to get your phone working like it used too. A NOTE: Make sure to use the phone menu to navigate to getting the software update because it will not do it on it's own and what the phone defaults to is USB mass storage or modem when you connect the USB to a computer. Hope that helps someone.

As I recall, core software updates require data to download but the data usage is not actually allocated against you.
