When I send a smiley face it shows the symbols not the smiley face in out box?
The OS recognizes a specific set of symbols to convert it to the smiley, if you are not doing it exactly right, it may not recognize it. Also, some phones have the option to disable smileys, check the settings for you keyboard and for your messaging app and see if there is a box you need to check.
