I did not know to turn the phone once video button was pushed so the video now views sideways. Is there any way I can correct this?
on my iphone and HTC One once you start a video the landscape mode is by choice. if I hold the phone upright the way you make a call the screen is in portrait mode if I turn the phone the video fills the screen in landscape mode.
You tube is a good example. However in some phones you can select landscape or portrait mode in the phones settings. Read your owners manual to see if you have this setting.

Great question larice! I was able to confirm that you can either play a video through Portrait View or Landscape View. Which application or site are you using? This is a standard feature and depending on how you turn the device, the video will play in that mode. Are you looking to disable this feature? If so, here is how:
