When I browse the Internet my screen goes dim. Same is true for reading e-mail messages.
I have tried setting the brightness to full in the sub menu but it doesn't change the brightness.
Pull down the shade from the top. Swipe left to see if your "power saving" mode is enable. Also, just below those options is a slide bar for brightness and a check box for "auto". I'm betting your auto brightness is enabled.
