When I try to access wifi on my galaxy s4 it gives the error "Network connection disabled because internet too slow". Does any on know how to fix?
I have the same problem with my S4. When I turn my router on and off, it connects immediately. I do not have this problem with anything else - my desktop, laptop and TV are fine. Only the S4 and the on/off is the only action that has fixed it. There must be another solution.
That is quite an odd error message. I haven't run into this. Does this happen when you try different WiFi connections? TamaraH_VZWFollow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
There were several posts with this error message. My experience it is only a problem with my home wifi, but I have no problems with the home wifi and other connections. It's just the combo of the S4 and my home wifi (Netgear router).
Hi konmarjul,Thanks for the additional information. I had encountered a similar issue with a WiFi network connection and my DLink wireless router, and after some troubleshooting it was determined that after software update my router was no longer fully compatible with my device. DLink has since provided a firmware update that has resolved the issue. I would recommend checking with your wireless router manufacturer to ensure full compatibility with your device.AntonioC_VZWSupportFollow us on Twitter at www.twitter.com/VZWSupport
@Verizon guy this issue is not just DLink like samsung and verizon are trying to make it out to be......I have a $130 Netgear router and I have the same issue ...and the connection stops then restarts all the time at home....so annoying....WTB my Razr Maxx HD back
Hello Polandsprings00Let's get any issues resolved! I want you to love your Maxx! Does the device connect to other WiFi networks? Have you tried to reset your home router? I look forward to hearing from you and getting to the bottom of this.JoeL_VZW Please follow us on twitter @vzwsupport
I updated the firmware on my router and that did the trick. Connects flawlessly since then. Thanks!
Hi again!
Our software team is looking to get some additional information in order to resolve this for you all.
We can look into this but there are several things we would need to know. What type of AP/router are you trying to connect to? In addition to just the brand it would be very helpful to have the Model # and the Security type (WEP / WPA / WPA2) so that we can investigate this. As far as the error message is concerned, where are you physically seeing the error message?

I am having the same issue after updating the device this morning. Any fix for this?
I'm having the same issue. I've finally determined it was the software update for my s4. I've updated my router, uninstalled apps on my phone, turned off verizon virus security and nothing works. My phone will just keep turning the wifi on and off saying that the internet is unstable (It connects to my network just fine). I've just about had it.
Sorry to hear that chachie. Have you tested the device with multiple wifi connections? I appreciate that you have removed some apps. How about testing it in safe mode, free of all third party apps? In many cases the existing apps may be conflicting with a new OS. http://tiny.cc/9fqm7wJonathanK_VZWVZW SupportFollow Us on Twitter@VZWSupport
My router is not a D-Link, and I can barely connect at my home. Data and voice signal here are also nearly non-existent (which I suppose is why we call it a "mobile" phone). Meanwhile, I experience this issue with my S4 at several other locations, making the WiFi capability essentially useless on my device. It's quite frustrating, and I'm considering asking for a different Android phone, although I like the Galaxy family, but this issue is a dealbreaker.
This is a well-documented Samsung issue, and it's not the router, and it's not the network; it's the phone. Updating firmware or constantly resetting my router is an unacceptable solution. I've been with Verizon for about four months, and I'm a very happy customer besides this. If experience to this point is an indicator, this problem will be solved, and I'm really looking forward to that.
I am having the same issue that everyone else has reported. I do IT support for a living and have had this issue happen on Cisco, DLink, Linksys (yes I know it's Cisco, but proving a point), NetGear, Zyytec, etc.... It is a firmware problem on the phone. I have done the "turn off auto network switch" solution and it works until the phone automatically turns it back on. Really looking for a permanent fix.
We appreciate the details relating to this matter rdyxrolx! We always want you to be covered with the best support available. Do you mind sharing if you've reached out to Samsung for assistance with their device? If not, I recommend visiting http://bit.ly/IJvmpJ to review applicable options directly with the manufacturer. We appreciate that information, ayde98. I have forwarded all of the concerns listed. What type of AP/router are you trying to connect to? In addition to just the brand it would be very helpful to have the Model # and the Security type (WEP / WPA / WPA2) so that we can investigate this. As far as the error message is concerned, where are you physically seeing the error message? When Auto Network Switch is enabled & if link quality is evaluated to be poor, the device disconnects itself from the AP and find alternative connection, which can be either another AP or Cellular network. If Auto Network Switch is disabled, it simply stays connected to the AP and notify the user that the Wi-Fi connection is poor, or the Internet is not available via the AP. When user clicks on the notification, device shows a pop-up message which guides the user to enable 'Auto network switch'.This can be disabled or enabled by doing this:Settings -> Connections -> WiFi -> Menu -> Advanced -> Check or Uncheck 'Auto network switch' option. Please provide additional details to have this investigated. I am having the same trouble since the most recent update. This was not an issue before. It only happens with my work wifi, and they have checked it and determined it's the phone. A solution would be greatly appreciated because I now have to turn off my phone during work hours to ensure I don't go over my data usage since unlimited data was taken away. What a pain. It's enough to make me want to switch mobile providers. I tried your fixes, but they did not work.
susieqsie, we don't want this to be a problem for you too. You mentioned that you've tried all of our recommended fixes. The final troubleshooting step would be to master reset your device in Settings. For device support, click http://bit.ly/y5iuoj Keep us posted. LasinaH_VZWFollow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
I had the same problem. In Wifi settings hit the menu button then choose advanced. Make sure auto network switch is unchecked.
Auto Network Switch isn't the problem here. It's intrinsic to this phone and its well-documented Wifi issues. Verizon and Samsung need to either fix this or send out new phones.
Here it is, and I've got six different screen captures from six different networks with the same message. Verizon has to fix this.
In that screen you posted of the wifi connections, press the menu button and go into the Advanced option. Uncheck the Auto-switch.
Ann,
Thanks for your reply.
I've done that, and I've tried all the other solutions, including resetting the phone and resetting the router, all to no avail. There's an intrinsic problem with this phone, plain and simple.
As a matter of fact, when you change that setting, once the Wifi fails, it wants to change that setting back. This is a software and firmware problem with the S4. I've been literally on top of the router, within three feet, and unable to maintain a connection.
I have the same problem since the SCH-1545_MJ7_to_MK2 update that occurred in 12/17/2013. It happens anywhere I go and connect to WIFI. Even WiFi Fixer cannot consistently keep the WiFi up. In fact the WiFi turns it self completely off at times. Is there a way to go back top the prior release?
Since the latest Verizon snafu, MK2, now my Wi-Fi is acting up. Seems that now every time my phone goes to a blank screen, it cuts the wi-fi connection. When I wake the phone, and try to launch an app, it searches for ever and unless I cancel the app and then restart it, no connection is never made... Yes, I have keep wi-fi alive, even during sleep, I have auto switch turned OFF.
This "SMART PHONE" is really starting to become a really "STUPID" phone thanks to Verizon's FORCING us to accept BRICKED Android updates!
If they don't soon fix this FUBAR, my next phone will be an iPhone and with a different carrier.
Are you listening, Verizon?
I am having nearly the same issue. This began with our arrival in Australia for the holidays about two weeks ago. I brought the phone to use as a wi-fi only device during our stay and at the time it was on the MJ7 update. I immediately noticed the phone was crippled by this wi-fi issue; about every 30 seconds the whole phone would go blank for a moment, reload everything, and display the message at the bottom of the screen that wi-fi was now connected to the network. I am not seeing the other message that the connection is slow, just a constant disconnect and reconnect that causes a reset of whatever process I'm doing when it occurs. This quite literally makes internet browsing impossible, all the phone is useful for now is giving me a notification of new email.
I initially thought this was due to some sort of incompatibility with Australian Wi-Fi routers, if there's such a thing. However, after reading numerous other similar reports, I believe this is indeed a problem with the update and it just happened to occur at the beginning of our trip. I tried updating to MK2 but there was no change, I tried the Wi-Fi setting tricks but there was no change, and finally I tried the Verizon Software Repair tool with no change either. I do hope this is resolved soon; I love my Galaxy S4 but Wi-Fi is absolutely useless on it right now.
I've been dealing with this ever since the 4.3 update. I've dealt with Samsung and Verizon tech support but the problem persisted. Today I decided to try different settings on my router (Linksys EA6500). I created a different name and password for the 5 GHz network and left the 2.4 GHz with the original name and password. On the phone, wifi, I selected forget network (original name/password), turned off wifi, then switched it back on. After all that I connected to the 5 GHz only with the new password. The phone has stayed connected for over 6 hours now which is better than the 10 to 15 minutes that I was dealing with before. Not sure if this is a fluke or a fix but figured I'd post just in case this is helpful to anyone out there.
I too have done that, and even took it to the next level. I got a BRAND new Netgear router to replace my less than a year old router in hopes of fixing this problem. It even stated on the box that it was designed for wifi connections with new phones like the Samsung Galaxy 4... I guess the router was released before the Jelly bean update we were all given thinking it was an UPgrade instead of a DOWNgrade.
I wished that Verizon would admit that they "goofed up" and fix the problem instead of suggesting fixes that just do not work.
In the very least, offer a "downgrade" upgrade so that we can return to what worked when we paid good money for a phone that we assumed would always work.
I just spoke with Customer Support who had me delete my WiFi connection and reenter it. Since I did that the WiFi does not seem to have dropped for about the last 30 minutes or so. She told me I would have to do that for every WiFi connection I have in my phone. What a pain. I have never heard of such a thing but I guess if it works
I purchased an S4 on Dec 23 and at home use an ASUS AC68R router. Both the 5G and 2G connections were working fine until my phone on Dec 26 got the Verizon update that Frank1949 mentions above. Now I cannot maintain a 5G connection and the "strength bar" for whatever network I am on always stays near the lower one or two bars. I tried Frank's suggested delete/recreate the connection, but that does not help. I can still connect through the 2G network, but that may be because the signal strength is stronger for 2G generally.
The S4 and the Asus wifi router I have work fine together with the 5 GHz signal.
I honestly think that Verizon is doing this on purpose as they are losing "extortion" rates for their 3G/4G network if you us Wi-Fi instead of their overpriced network connections.
Think about it, if Wi-Fi is everywhere, they will soon have no need for their WAY OVER PRICED proprietary network which they have invested lots of money in.
Can you hear me now? Can you hear me now? Can you hear me now? That commercial used to be funny.
I don't agree this is a GS4 issue, an Android issue, a Verizon issue or faulty wifi on the phones. It is an issue of incompatible technology. The GS3 and GS4 are 21st century phones. If you connect to 20th century, slow, wifi connection, you get this problem.
I suggest testing your phone on a wifi that has proven itself with other, similar phones. If it still fails, with default settings, it may be your phone.
I spend a good deal of time on the Apple forums, the complaints, problem and solution are the same. Update to a dual band router and internet speeds that are comparable with a high speed device. Or should I say, multiple high speed devices..... The more devices you run on your home network, the more internet speed, and data connection required. If you are paying for basic internet speeds of (gasp) 3mbs, that is s.....l....o....w.....
See how long to buffer on AT&T:
http://www.att.com/shop/internet.html#fbid=zg5uYH9a6oh
I admit I own Apple devices, but I have the GS3 and love it. The best Apple purchase I made and will recommend is an Apple AirPort Extreme Router. Not one of the bigger storage and router combos, just the AirPort Extreme. We have dozens of devices on wifi, streaming, windows laptops, 2 desktops, smart phones, tablets, XBox, PS4, smart TVs...on and on. I have no connection problems or lagging since the new router.
"Get another router" isn't the solution. I understand the progression of technology, but backward compatibility isn't too much to ask for. I travel constantly in my line of work and spend most of my time in remote television production trucks. It's not my business to tell them what routers to use, or to tell hotels, coffee shops, or airlines, for that matter. Every device in my house except my phone works fine with my router. This is indeed a Verizon and Samsung issue, and they both need to find a solution that doesn't require everyone else to adapt. Heck, that's the exact reason I don't own Apple products.

Ann, As I said my new S4 and ASUS router worked fine from Dec 23 to Dec 26, before the S4 software upgrade. If I might ask, what ASUS router are you using and what version of software is on your S4.
I too do not think this is a router problem...I have other wireless devices, including a Google Nexus tablet using the 5G wireless connection on this router and through all these S4 problems, they have ALL functioned flawlessly (As did my Galaxy Nexus phone before I upgraded to the S4).

Hello,
I am new to this site, found it by searching for S4 / Verizon wi-fi issues. Unfortunately it looks like there has not been any clear answers that work for everyone on the wi fi password retention problem. I have the same problem on my S4. I also have 2 S3's that have not had any problems at all! I have the latest Comcast router, and great internet connection.
I did update the phone software, but this did not fix.
Costco, (where I bought the phone service) simply tells me to contact Verizon, and if they can not remedy this problem, they will send me a new phone....I am wondering what the chances are?
I have attempted many of the suggestions from this group, but the problem persists. Does anybody have a valid suggestion on what to do next?
Thanks!
Thanks for the update rdyxrolx. If you have reset the devices and still have issues, the best option would be to replace the device. Have you had the device replaced?KinquanaH_VZWFollow us on Twitter @vzwsupport
Now, Verizon emails me and wants to know if I've replaced the phone. As a matter of fact, I have, three weeks ago. That was, in fact, one of the best customer service experiences I've ever had. I was traveling for work, and my phone died -- just went suddenly black -- just after we landed in Memphis. The store in Memphis not only found me an S3 to use until my new S4 came in, but delivered it to me at work that same day. I had to fly right back out the next morning, and being on the road just plain requires a way to communicate with airlines, coworkers, and home. Verizon knocked it outta the park.
So, yes, I've replaced the phone. I've run all updates. I've deleted and reconnected with every imaginable network. This issue is a Verizon and Samsung problem that's well-documented and pervasive. Telling customers to replace their routers is impractical. Is every airport and Starbucks going to replace their technology to comply with this device?
Please, Verizon -- work with Samsung, and solve this. You have customers with phones that simply don't work as advertised. Something is causing it. We'll cooperate to find it, but please, get this fixed.
Hello rdyxlox, As you suggested, I sent an email to Samsung support about my S4 issue (poor 5G Wifi connectivity). Interestingly, the I545 model number was not even in the required dropdown box on the email page for submission so I hope my workaround gets the message to Samsung
Same problem 3 other devices work fine including another g4 phone but my g4 has same message

Update on my issue of my S4 phone not retaining passwords, shutting wi fi off on its own.
I had also recently updated the phones operating software. This did not fix the issue.
For me, the following worked....
1.Went into safe mode..entered my wi fi password. It was now working fine..(in safe mode)
2. Backed up my data.
3. Performed a factory reset
4. Just filled out information as required on reboot, and the phone now remembers the wi fi password, and auto connects when within range.
5. Restored my contacts.
So far, so good!
So the suggestion that a third party application is causing this problem seems to be true. As someone suggested, I will add one at a time and wait a day to make sure all is fine before adding more.
I am sure this fix will help some, but from the sounds of it, there are way more complex problems with others!
Happy new year to all! Good luck.
Just throwing it out there! :smileyhappy:
I am seeing the same situation with my S4. Issue started with the 4.3 upgrade.
Now I also have a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2012 edition). With both devices conected to the same Wifi device (the modem supplied by Verizon as a part of my FiOS service) my S4 will sometimes switch to 4G and flash the message that my connection is too slow.
Funny thing....my Note 10.1 is quite content with the same signal, in the same room as the S4 and does NOT switch to 4G. Of course the Note 10.1 is running 4.1.2 as opposed to 4.3.
I ended up disabling the feature that allows the S4 to switch to 4G. This locks the S4 to Wifi, but I may see a banner every so often advising that I have a poor signal.
The fix for this and other S4 issues will have to come from Samsung. They are very much aware of the S4 issues (despite having been told that they are not).
But I do not hold out much hope for a fix at this point. With the S5's rollout in the not too distant future and the fact that Samsung is getting ready to push 4.4.x (Kit Kat) to S4 phones (a provider in France will be the first) my feeling is that Samsung will buy time and hope that the issues will be resolved with the 4.4 upgrade.
I first noticed the problem when I got a GoPro camera andwas going to use my Samsung Galaxy S4 to control it, The GoPro is a Modem butwhen I try to connect
My galaxy Samsung Galaxy S4 it gives the error "Network connection disabled becauseinternet too slow".
My wife’s Samsung Galaxy S4 bought the same day as mine wasbought about 3 months age works fine and can see and control the GoPro
My IPad can see and control the GoPro with no problem
After reading all of these post and other on the internet Samsung Galaxy S4 has a problem and needs to be fixed

It works fine with my wife's Samsung Galaxy S4 phone bought the same day as mine, not sure about which upgrade mine or hers has but this is the same problem that a lot of people with Samsung Galaxy S4 are having, this is not a modem (camera ) problem it is with the phone. From what I have seen on the internet the latest software is what has caused the problem so I have told my wife not to upgrade and it still works fine

As far as having problems with other apps I have seen no problems but I do not use many apps

Just adding to the stockpile of comments. I am having the same issue since the update. Also, extreme battery drain, phone gets warm, some apps slow to open or I get a "black screen." I have a strong signal from my wi-fi, but it will say the internet connection is unstable which translates within the apps as "slow internet connection. My daughter and I both have the S4 phones and we get this message...my wife and other children have different phones, and they do not receive this message. This all started over the Christmas holidays. My laptop and other devices that use the router are working fine when we get these error messages. Sometimes we will have a lot of devices going at once, but most times only one or two devices are using the network. I was about to call my ISP thinking I had a modem issue, but now realize it's our S4 phones with the latest updates that are the problem. I hope this gets resolved quickly. I chose this phone last summer because to the great battery life and phone/app/internet speed, and now it's worse than my OLD phone. Is this something that will "roll out" soon? Is there a way to revert back to the previous OS version?

No.
I understand the importance of having a reliable device captfrank. An OS update should only improve the performance on your devices. Have you tested them in more than one wifi location? Did you retain all your apps during the update? You could be experiencing app conflict with the new OS. I recommend testing the devices in safe mode for at least a half day. http://vz.to/1hCWfLmJonathanK_VZWVZW SupportFollow Us on Twitter@VZWSupport
What is being missed is that these problems started happening after phones were upgraded to 4.3. Prior to that, users were not experiencing these issues.
The 4.3 upgrade software that Samsung pushed to multiple carriers (not just Verizon) is the cause. That is why the company asked providers to hault distribution of the initial software until further testing and corrections could be made.
Samsung needs to issue corrective patches to Verizon and other providers for intensive testing and distribution.
Having read that Samsung will soon be rolling out Kit Kat 4.4 to cellular providers (first up is a company in France), the chances of any patches for 4.3 seem miniscule at best.
I have just started having the problem the past couple of days. I get the message both a work and at home. My battery also is drained and the phone is warm when normally I would be at 60% battery. Today I cannot access data on wifi or mobile data.
This started two days ago for me. I have tried all of the fixes on Samsung's website which mostly involve the customer making sure they have their wifi set up correctly. Insulting. My Toshiba laptop runs on my wifi connection just fine. I called Samsung and they tried to tell me it is my wifi connection. Frustrating when it is obvious it is not the wifi; it is the phone. Safe mode did not work, nor did a hard set. Going to a Verizon store tomorrow after reading all of these posts and the other forums across the internet about this issue. Facebook has several Samsung sucks pages. Social media may be the best way to get a solution.
I was really happy with this phone, but I am turned off by the lack of effective responsiveness by Samsung and Verizon. Are we supposed to wait indefinitely for an upgrade that may not fix this anyway? I had just recommended this phone to a friend. I have taken that back.We deserve better.

I am logged on to hotel network in Kauai using my samsung note3 10.1 -- no problem -- good strong signal. However the Galaxy s4 has the problem connection disabled network too slow. I have had this occur at other times in other locations. On the other hand it logs into our verizon/frontier home router and other public locations [starbucks, etc.] without a problem. Must have something to do with particular systems/routers.
Hope samsung can fix the problem with an update.

It is well documented - I've been searching and have found the WiFi-GalaxyS4 issue in many android and other forums...
I, like MANY others, am having the same problem (with staying connected) - AND like many others, this is ONLY an issue at home! No problems staying connected at the coffee shop, airport, etc etc.
I found many helpful S4 users on the forum, www.galaxys4forums.net and after reading through many posts, (including a few where people have done some pretty extensive trouble-shooting,
The only thing I've come up with that seems consistent across forums is to limit the router to 802.11g ONLY, and that seems to allow the S4 to stay connected.
I am trying that now (after updating my firmware, and switching from WEP to WPA and WPA2...
We shall see if that works...
I encourage you to check the galaxys4forums link - very helpful on a number of topics!
I've had this same issue for months since the update. Have even replaced my network hardware at home, just in case.
It appears that this latest update included some code to put the wifi connection to sleep and use 4G data in order to provide more billing for VZW. Since the update, I've seen my data usage at least triple, yet my use habits have not changed. When I turn off mobile data and turn wifi on, it works fine for about fifteen minutes. After that, I have to turn off wifi, then turn it back on in order to refresh the phone's connection. My other wifi devices are fine, packet traces show connection to the phone from the wifi router. It just so happens that the phone isn't trying to send packets out the wifi connection, it wants to use the mobile data connection even though I've said NO.
I think it's quite clear what is happening here.
I am having the same issue and Im getting super angry. my data is going over because I can't stay connected to WIFI anywhere home, work, anywhere. I should not be having to pay for these charges because the updates are horrible. I need to know how to fix this problem, resets don't work, nothing has worked, I have tried everything and Im frustrated!
