Galaxy Nexus 4.3 OTA Upgrade?

It's Tuesday, 11 June 2013, and rumors continue about the much anticipated release of Google Jelly Bean 4.3 (or some variant of it). Though it didn't happen yesterday the 10th as some had expected--others now say July, an article by Robert Triggs just a few hours ago on Android Authority begs the question "Galaxy Nexus passes through Bluetooth SIG, is Android 4.3 incoming?" Apparently, a GT-I9250 (aka "Maguro": GSM/HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus variant on AT&T/T-Mobile networks) was spied being tested against Bluetooth standards, a requirement for new update releases. That, my friends, is a major step toward our beloved GNexes getting another transfusion that's slated to resolve the over-discussed problems of overheating and rapidly draining batteries. Plus, gaining a couple of new features: a new camera UI and a power-saving Bluetooth upgrade to v4.0 that most higher end devices have. It's Fathers Day, 16 June 2013... I was sure that the moment I turned on my GNex this morning that the 4.3 OTA update would arrive. Didn't happen, but what a nice FD gift that would have been. Day's not over... who knows, could happen.

Has Android 4.3 been released yet for the unlocked GSM version? Until I'm not going to bother worrying about it. Google has released enough updates on the individual apps and their Google Services app that I have already seen improvements.

With the revelation of a security vulnerability that has existed since Android 1.6, an update of some sort is due. The vulnerabilty allows for a previously signed App to be modified (assumedly maliciously) and still appear to be correctly, digitally, signed.

It got released today.. Hope Verizon does not screw up this update as they did with 4.2.2 and they prepared for the 4.3 OTA release to come soon. I will feel sorry for anyone who decides to get a new Nexus 7 LTE on verizon as i am sure it will suffer the same fate as the GN. Cant imagine why google would even give big red another nexus device.

I saw that it was released on the tech sites. I hooe we won't wait too long. Until then I will will work with the OS my Nexus has installed.

I too am wondering when we are going to get the update. I noticed that on googles factory images, there is not even an image for 4.3 for verizon. I do hope that verizon is planning on rolling this update out to us as it is being reported it helps with things such as the battery life.

I just got 4.3 on my Nexus 10. If history is any guide, the Verizon Galaxy Nexus will be 3-6 months behind. Assuming it gets an update at all. And you'll have to do the Google Services Framework shuffle to get it to notice the update if it ever goes live.

It was a nice six months or so that my phone and tablet were on the same version. I waited for 4.x and specifically chose Nexus devices so that my portable devices would be running the same platform. So much for that plan. The Galaxy Nexus should never have been called a Nexus device. I blame Google, Verizon, and Samsung equally for the pathetic support of this device.

It would be amazing if Verizon can push 4.3 faster than 4.2.2. Galaxy Nexus has been a solid device for me. I did have to warranty my first but my CLN replacement has been solid. I got my 32GB GN for 49.99 last october and at that price its been great phone with no bloat.

VERIZON! Step it up you slackers. The main reason I purchased the Galaxy Nexus was so I could get PROMPT and TIMELY Android updates. The extreme delay that you put on the release of Google's Android updates is completely UNACCEPTABLE. This is my primary complaint and problem with you as a carrier. I pay you good money, for a good service, and the way you disrespect Google, their Nexus phones, (what happened to the Nexus 4), and the slow release of their updates is completely unacceptable.

IF you want to keep me, as well as many other hard core Android enthusiasts, as loyal paying customers, then you better start showing more dedication to delivering PROMPT releases of the Android updates, at the very least for the Nexus line.

AND, my next phone will either be the Nexus 5, if / when it is released, or the Motorola X phone.

If you do not carry them, and support them well with timely updates, then, I'm sorry but we'll have to part ways.

I want my Nexus devices, and I want my timely updates.

That's all I'm asking.

Now, PLEASE, help improve this area of your service.

Then I will be nice and happy and spread the word for everyone to join Verizon.

I travel all over the country actually and have problems, but that may be gaps in VZW's network. However, I've been a customer a lot of years and know that VZW's coverage in the Baltimore area is generally good, except with this device. The issue is primarily data. Here are some examples and I'm happy to provide more in this forum or another. I previously owned a Motorola Droid 1 and my wife has the iPhone 4S, neither of which gave me these problems.

Zip Code 21202 - 4G and 3G swings back and forth. When it drops down to 3G, I have it for a little bit, then it drops to 0 dbm. The signal drops completely several times a day.

Zip Code 21204 - Similar, but only with certain areas. I should note that the previous two phones I had kept strong 3G everywhere.

Baltimore I-695, Coverage drops completely, 0dbm all over it. Never had this problem before. Not a problem with iPhone.

Arnold, MD area - Even my OG Droid and wife's iPhone had data issues here. Major hole for coverage with VZW, however voice calls were fine. Not now, I enter that area and I literally get the no network message if I try to make a call.

Other times I'm traveling in other cities, I can be in the middle of a major populated area and not even be able to look up something on Yelp because I'm on 3G and it says 0dbm. If my wife is with me, I look at her iPhone and it connects fine. I was in Chicago Midway Airport a few weeks ago and couldn't even load Twitter my signal was so bad. I figured it was because I was in a building, but never had problems in that airport in the past with other phones and I go there frequently.

I'll also add that the radio updates have improved some spots. It certainly made my 3G upload speed go from a palty 2 kilobytes per second to way faster. However, there are vast areas where the adventure is wondering if I'll have access to data, or at least voice calls.

I'm in the same situation as earthtraveler. I purchased the Galaxy Nexus for the sole reason of getting prompt updates to the Android OS, and I've been very disappointed with Verizon's delayed releases. The GSM Galaxy Nexus receives updates much quicker than the Verizon version, which is often riddled with bugs (Google "galaxy nexus bluetooth issues").

I encourage the Verizon Galaxy Nexus owners to check the Nexus factory image page at https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images and notice that the GSM image is currently available while the Verizon version is not.

If Verizon does not significantly improve their handling of the Nexus devices, I will be switching carriers as soon as my contract is up for renewal.

How about fixing the Bluetooth. This is a safety thing since many states require hands free and if your having to mess with your BT to get it to reconnect then you not paying attention to the road. This is a problem that came with 4.2.2 when I called VZW they bounced me to Samsung who bounced me to Google. Now Google releases the fix and VZW sits on it. Then add the lag or slowing down of the phone. 4.3 adds TRIM support to the phone. Then like others have said reception, reception, reception. Was on the phone recently because my reception at my house has all but disappeared in recent months and I was told that my phones have not updated their signal in 2 months. I love my nexus when it works right. The updated ROM is out there but some of us choose to wait.

Your (Verizon's) management of this phone is a disaster: You have completely ruined it with slow updates, crappy radio, crappy bluetooth, crappy battery management, and neutering Google Wallet off of the device.

Newsflash VZ: Nobody bought this phone because they wanted a perfect experience. We bought the phone because we wanted bleeding edge updates and features. We don't want Isis; We want Google Wallet. We don't want you to comb through all the code. We want it the day it comes out.

I know you will respond with something like, "Hey! Thanks for the excellent feedback! This will help us tremendously!" You know what would help tremendously? Stop with the self-fellatiating posts, and click the "Release 4.3 to the Nexus devices" button. Also, allow ALL the features. I want updates the frigging DAY the new OS comes out.

Now, for phones that my Mom and Dad buy (Galaxy S3-type), PLEASE QA the software so they don't stroke out when something doesn't work.

I hate you Verizon.

It has been almost 4 weeks since Google released Android 4.3, and most other Nexus devices, including GSM version Galaxy Nexus, have already received the OTA update. In fact, my Nexus 7 received the update to 4.3 over two weeks ago. Apparently 4.3 includes several key improvements over 4.2.2, including better memory management and Bluetooth 4.0. Please explain why Verizon is holding back the update, and if there is a plan for releasing it over the air. Thanks.

No longer have the SGNexi515; it developed a short in the charger port and smoked two data cables, the battery, and most like the mother board. As no replacements were available, Verizon advised the store to upgrade my phone to the SGS3i535. Now I'm waiting for the 4.3 OTA for it.

Why is everyone so fixated on getting the update released so soon. VZW will release the update when its good and ready. They are not going to release an update full of bugs to everyone, it has to go through inspection and testing first. Calm down the update is coming, though it seems it may not fit with everyone's speedy expectations.

I know they are going to wait, I was just wondering when they were going to. Or even if they were going to. I was doing a little research and Android 5.0 is suppose to come out this fall and I read that some companies are just going to wait until then. That I am also fine with, I am just hoping they are planning on releasing an update to our phones.

Clarkbot, I agree that people should have some patience when waiting for the OS updates. It's not reasonable to expect Verizon to release the updates the same day as Google announces them. It IS reasonable, though, to expect Verizon to release the updates around the same time as the other carriers, which Verizon has failed. The Verizon update schedule has consistently been months behind the GSM releases of other carriers.

For other phones, this might be acceptable. The Galaxy Nexus is a device that was advertised as being stock Android and receiving updates much faster. For many customers, myself included, this was the entire reason for buying that particular phone. If Verizon does not release the updates roughly on schedule with the other carriers, it is a failure to deliver what was advertised when we purchased the phone.

I'm not asking for Verizon to release updates the moment Google announces them, but I am asking Verizon to keep up with the other carriers. Currently, I cannot recommend Verizon to anyone that wants a stock Android experience or Nexus device.

"Everyone" is fixated on rapid updates because this phone is a "Nexus" device. Nexus devices are supposed to be developed closely with Google, being the first devices to get the latest versions of Android free of clutter and crapware add-ons.

The Verizon version of this phone has consistently received updates months behind the GSM version sold through Google and other Nexus devices. Google, Verizon, and Samsung all point fingers at each other. It's pathetic. If Verizon wasn't willing to provide the expected level of support, they shouldn't have gotten involved in the "Nexus" line. Google and Samsung shouldn't have gotten involved with Verizon if Verizon wouldn't commit to providing prompt updates for the device.

It's great to see Verizon's customer support representatives responding to this forum. It's nice to know that someone from Verizon is seeing our concerns, even if they are unable to do anything about it.

One other complaint I've had about my Verizon Galaxy Nexus is that it came with Verizon-specific apps that could not be uninstalled. The Nexus line of phones are supposed to be stock Android and not have any manufacturer or carrier customizations, but Verizon chose to include some of its own apps anyway. The worst part is that they put the apps in the system folder so that they could not be uninstalled.

Verizon, if you're going to include carrier-specific apps on a phone that was supposed to be stock Android, please include them as normal apps so that the users can uninstall them if desired.

It's now August 20th, where the hell is the 4.3 update?! Still stripped away from Google Wallet, like AT&T, horrible. I thought this was Verizon, not AT&T? Sprint has Google Wallet still available, why not the Verizon Nexus variant?? Forget your ISIS software, I want Google Wallet. Also, I DO have an ISSUE/PROBLEM with my Verizon device, YOU are impeding an update that would correct my Camera bug, and by expediting the roll out of Android 4.3, you will FIX the problem for the device YOU are providing.

VZW is the worst with updates. As soon as the new Nexus device is announced I'm breaking my contract. I suspect that 90%+ of the people who bought the Verizon Galaxy Nexus will jump ship too.

Well, those nice VZW apps could be *disabled* at least, which I did the instant I found them on what's supposed to be MY pure android phone... (likely vzw response: bwa ha ha ha ha ha ha!!! ). My expectation is that VZW didn't expect that to be possible and didn't take the necessary steps to ensure it wasn't possible. And since I'm sure these threads are under observation from the NSA, the cynic in me suggests that they'll hold the update back until they can remedy what I just mentioned...

Here is the best part about updates from VZW, not only do they drag their feet when it comes to updates, not only do they insist it's all part of the vetting process, but they can't go around putting out an update that fixes known security defects!!!

Since the Verizon Customer Service Representatives are asking for specific problems with the phone, I'll provide one. When I'm listening to music (Google Play Music) in the car via Bluetooth and receive a phone call in the middle of a song, whenever the call is finished, my phone will not reconnect to the car's Bluetooth audio. The call is received via Bluetooth as well, but whenever I hang up, either by pressing the end-call button on the phone or on the car steering wheel, the Bluetooth connection for music is dropped. I have to manually tell the phone or the car to try to re-establish the Bluetooth connection.

I experience this problem in my car and my wife's car. The cars are made by 2 different manufacturers - Honda and Lexus, and the behavior is the same in both cars. My wife and I both have Galaxy Nexi, and both phones exhibit this problem in both cars.

Google has made significant changes to Bluetooth in the 4.3 version of Android, but I have no idea if this will fix the issue since the Verizon Galaxy Nexus phones have not yet received the update.

Wow, deflecting to Samsung. If Samsung was the hold up then none of the Galaxy Nexus phones would have the update. It's VZW that's the hold up. VZW orphaned this phone because they insists on taking the binaries, signing the binaries, doing your own testing and approving an update before it's allowed to be pushed - often MONTHS after it has been pushed to the GSM model. The purpose of a Nexus device is to receive updates quickly after they've been published by Google. VZW people and community leaders can dance around these questions all they want and deflect the blame elsewhere, but the fact remains that VZW ruined the Nexus experience for us and like a lot of people, I will jump ship as soon as my contract is up. In addition to losing a lot of customers, I suspect VZW will never get another Nexus device, nor should they.

Look, we know and you know Samsung has nothing to do with releasing this update, as Google handles the update, and you aka "Verizon" insist on some ridiculous testing protocol and certification process before releasing it, months after its already available on the GSM versions of the phone. There is no reason for the holdup and part of the reason for the Nexus line is that you get the updates when they come out with no other skins, or crapware from the cell providers. Instead Verizon ignores this, takes months to release the updates and destroys the Nexus experience. It's no wonder that the Nexus 4 was not released in a form compatible with Verizon. I have six Verizon Galaxy Nexus phones at work, and when they are up from contract we will go to a different provider. So yes your boat is sinking and you poked the holes in it.

Verizon is absolutely Horrid. I am going to jump ship. 15 days till contract runs out. Their Handling of the Galaxy Nexus has been the absolute worst in History. Also trying to prevent Google from rolling out the Google Wallet is also one of their motivations so they can dump their version (a piece of crap software) on us. As soon as they realize they are just a commodity and bring NOTHING to the table except a network, the better off all the customers will be. ATT has almost caught up with them on Network access so I think I am going with ATT. I can get the phone today and get all the updates ON TIME!

Ann154 - If the 4.3 update exists for the GSM version there is no excuse that you or the carriers can give that doesn't ultimately lead to the fact that the carrier is to blame. The update is out there for the EXACT SAME PHONE. Adding the CDMA binaries and updating the radios does not take this long! I've done it myself!! The CDMA carriers are terrible with updates, plain and simple.

Then why are you here complaining on a peer to peer customer forum? If you want update it yourself go ahead and void your warranty. Beyond that the terms of service here prevent any further discussion of those methods. As for myself, I'm happy with 4.2.2 on my Galaxy Nexus. I don't think there is a lot of difference between 4.2.2 and 4.3 in terms of the user experience.

Ann154, because it's a NEXUS device. I don't get why some of you people just don't get it, continue to debate it and make excuses. Plain and simple, with a Nexus device, you should NOT have to update it yourself and void your warranty. Otherwise, DON'T PUT THE WORD NEXUS ON IT!

Warranty?The phone is 18 months old, why would I shell out 9 bucks a month for the privilege to pay $99 dollars for a "new" phone.

There is a MAJOR difference between 4.2.2 and 4.3. On my Nexus 10, the user experience has been night and day thanks to the addition of TRIM support. Also, fixing the blue tooth issues that exist in 4.2.2!!! Stop making excuses for Verizon

Exactly. This is strictly a Verizon issue, because they insist on being a barrier between updates and the user. Apple does not have this issue, Iphone updates are released for all carriers at the same time, so it is definitely possible. Windows Phone 8 has already stated that upon release of new software, it will be available to download directly from Microsoft one month after it's released if the Carriers don't approve the update, thereby bypassing Verizon from delaying it for more than a month. However for some reason, Verizon insists on withholding approval for months at a time for Nexus updates, and apparently has something in the contract to prevent Google from doing the same. Stands to reason that Google would skip putting in CDMA radios for the Nexus 4 after the experience with the Galaxy Nexus.

I have a device with 4.3 on it. I don't see any difference in speed between the two. I don't use bluetooth to care about it.

From what I've read, this is something that carriers may be trying to get rid of because in theory, it will improve the longevity of the phone by allowing it to run better longer.

"Partnered with Samsung"? Really?

Android is written and coded for the Nexus phones. They are the foundation of the whole OS. Manufacturers get that base code and make it work with their newer, more elaborate handsets.

VZ has stonewalled this phone and its features to help itself out. (Blocking Google wallet in favor or Isis...) Complaints to the FCC about letting me use my data how I want to were answered with lies and truth-stretches.

We bought NEXUS devices. We understand that means there might be some bugs. We understand that we might have to act as beta testers. WE ARE FINE WITH THAT.

Instead of neutering 4.3, why don't you release it to us, and start working on a bluetooth radio fix and a battery fix?

I have been a loyal customer for over 20 years and now I will have to part ways with you Verizon. As soon as the Nexus 5 is released I'm buying out and we are jumping ship for better pricing along with no contracts.

First the 4G speeds have been sub par in the New Orleans area and signal strength is just not like it used to be.

Second I was sold into a phone that was a pure Nexus experience and it definitely is not.

Third when it's time to upgrade I can not keep my unlimited plan unless I pay full price for both my phones from you that is three times the cost that I can get directly from Google.

Fourth the slow response to updates have been ridiculous. I know you're trying to work the bugs out but every update release has still had problems with them. My phone use to fly when I first got it but now I'm sure glad I have the new Nexus 7 because my Galaxy Nexus is snail slow. Not to mention the battery life. I get maybe a good 30 minutes of use from it and majority of it is spent waiting for things to loasd up. The lag, bluetooth, not charging sometimes, locking up, losing audio and resets are killing me. I'm tired of pulling the battery out and factory resetting it.

I was once proud to be a Verizon customer but not so much anymore.

The Galaxy Nexus is easily one of my favorite smartphones. With its ease of use and vanilla operating system, what's there not to love! While the updates are originated from the manufacturer, Google, the Nexus delivered on its promise, which is a vanilla operating system. There's no doubt that software updates can be exciting but the main reason for most updates is to resolve known issues with the performance of the device. Our devices are test vigorously to ensure that they will work as promise, thus making a multiple software updates unnecessary. If you feel that this is not the case then please advise as we want you to love your device and the experience that the Nexus provides.

Upgrading is an exciting experience. While unlimited data is no longer available for new customers you are welcomed to keep this plan when a device is purchased at full retail. This is not the case. Those of us who purchased the Galaxy Nexus expected it to be like any other Nexus device. That means that we expected updates to come directly from Google. At the absolute very least, we expected that if Verizon was going to do anything to the device or tamper with the upgrade process, that due to the Galaxy Nexus being stock Android, the wait time from Google releasing an update to Verizon sending it out would be very minimal (a week or two tops).

Instead, updates have taken between 3-6 months to roll out. This is absolutely unacceptable for a Nexus device. I know that I'm not alone when I say that one of the main reasons I bought the Galaxy Nexus was the hope of getting new Android updates faster than the current glacial rate that most Android devices get them. I'm extremely disappointed that this ended up not being the case.

Hey Verizon, can you start working on, "Optimizing the 4.4 software," for us NOW, even though the software is specifically created for our devices, so I don't have to wait until 2015?

Also, you realize everyone that bought Nexus devices are your more tech-savvy customers, right? We aren't baby boomers buying iPhones. All of us read up on current tech issues. We are well versed as to why VZ can't throttle bandwidth or limit tethering apps on 4G phones (FCC slapped you since part of the deal to sell you the spectrum was you could not limit how the customer uses said BW).

But, here's the big one: All of us understand that Google develops a new operating system TO WORK SPECIFICALLY WITH NEXUS DEVICES so the Nexus phones get the updates first. The Nexus device is the 'baseline" that all other android phones need to be tweaked from. The Samsung GNex and the Nexus 4 are on the test benches at google right now testing 4.4. It is your Galaxy 4s and HTC Ones that need to be, "Tweaked for the optimum experience," not my phone.

Look, I know you guys have a really long straw there with liquid sunshine in it, but it isn't working. Just release 4.3 to us now. If we see a problem with it, we'll let you know. ALL of us are willing to be paying beta testers. When we find issues, we let people know so that they get patched/fixed. This moves the android experience forward. What is better? Dealing with angry GNex owners on this board, or dealing with GNex owners that would report a bug IF we were able to find one?

Like someone said previously, "How many phones are available from VZ that run 4.3?" You bash T Mobile as a "supermarket disposable brand", however, there are ppl carrying around android phones running 4.3 that would beg to differ.

We have one more month until Android 5.0 will roll out and if we are lucky we may see Android 4.3 before the years end (fingers crossed)! Can't wait for the Nexus 5 to be released at the end of October!!!!! It is packed with just about every antenna out there, so it will work on any network except one......... Verizon 4G LTE band 13 hmmmm I wonder why?

@Verizon I have a decent suggestion on how you can keep the android fans happy Especially on the "Nexus" platform.

For your CDMA Radios -- Open source the drivers & merge them directly into the Android Kernel, no more driver modules required. Keep the Radio Firmware closed source & release those OTA as required with a sanity/version checker between the Firmware & Drivers so they don't try to enable things not available to each other.

For your Value Add applications -- Make these user level applications allowing your users to add/remove them at will

For base Google applications -- Stop blocking them because they don't conform to your business model. Some people want those apps & will buy the phones because those applications are supported on it, yes I'm looking at ISIS/Google Wallet for the most part.

For the Manufacturer/Carrier skins/customizations -- See value added applications. Essentially make all phones be capable of being Google Play Editions, to cut down on tech calls, when a major update such as 4.2 to 4.3 or 4.4 comes out right in the OTA update say WARNING This may break the custom skin you are running requiring you to use the base Android experience until patching/testing are completed. Do you accept yes/no, at which point the update continues or is delayed until the next check or until the skin is properly updated & tested.

In all seriousness yes I know Android is suffering from MAJOR Fragmentation so we will never see same day release of OS updates the entire iPhone crowd gets to see but a vast amount of the user base on Android is tech savvy. So I present you this request.

For all phones running Android, please label it plain as day what the maximum version of Android is they're running & will no longer get patches for "For older phones" and for newer phones still being supported please post progress bars on the update page such as follows. This won't calm the entire herd but will give your users a sense of not being abandoned & thrown to the wolves or having to buy a new phone to get the latest software.

I don't believe the CDMA radios can be open sourced by Verizon Wireless. Qualcomm is tied into the radio licenses somehow.

The truth behind this all is that VZW can do what they want... if your satisfaction rating is 50% while everyone else hovers around 20-30% where are you going to go? Think about it... Europeans enjoy twice the speed for half the cost. This is genuine yankee-doodle greed, the deck is stacked against us and it's run by a colluding oligarchy. Remember, Corporatons are run by Biz-Dorks... and they only understand cost and not value. The reason you're so pissed off about this is that you VALUE something... and you expect that what's promised gets delivered. VZW stinks, ATT stinks, they ALL stink. The problem is Biz-Dorks only know about cost... they know nothing about delivering value... in this case they don't HAVE to. Remember, this is brought to you by a company who's CEO actually said the word "Unlimited" doesn't mean Unlimited!

Well my drama may soon be over with Verizon ... I ordered the Galaxy Note 3 and the Google Nexus 5 is expected to be announced on October 15th. If I do not like the GN3 and the GN5 is not offered by Verizon, I will simply return the GN3 and purchase the GN5 from the Google Play Store. The only phones I want to upgrade for our these two.

You know... I completely forgot about that... now Qualcomm may actually be the cause for the delay -- Wild guess but follow me on it.

Google releases a new kernel for it's newest OS & Alerts OEMs to build new drivers for the new kernel which then gets integrated & sent over to Samsung for testing which Samsung sends the update to all vendors using CDMA technology in their phones which goes back & forth between the vendors all the way up to google who then has to communicate with Qualcomm for fixes to any issues. This would explain why CDMA providers are always lagging behind their GSM counterparts on nearly identical phones.

This hopefully should clear up when VoLTE becomes a standard after CDMA is fully abandoned down the road "long ways down the road most likely"

@Verizon can you confirm/deny the above -- Just looking for a ray of hope here.

Yes I'm looking forward to 4.3, from what I'm seeing/hearing the memory management on it is amazing compared to 4.0.x/4.1.x/4.2.x

Now the fun ? here. I had Google wallet on my phone & properly configured, once you guys pushed an update blocking the software to nuke Google Wallet it nuked the secure element of my NFC, am I boned or will you guys be able to work with me on replacing my phone?

Actually let's not blame just Verizon here. I know the big S also had patch delays on the Galaxy Nexus so

it may be the CDMA technology within the phone holding it up. Still

doesn't make it right holding up a patch for several months even compared

to other carriers using CDMA, but what can we do. Right now they have me

by the gonads since I have an unlimited data plan which I will hold until

the end of time or until they forcefully remove it.

If that happens, yea a GSM Provider for me so I get a wider choice in

phones with faster updates.

I'm on board with a lot of you. Google and/or Verizon should pay fines for advertising this as a Nexus device. The entire reason we bought the Galaxy Nexus was to receive updates nearly immediately. This is a JOKE.

Contract's up on 12/15. I'm switching to Ma Bell that day. Verizon completely and utterly lost all of my respect over the past couple years with this phone. You're losing a decade long customer.

You say to us that, "You are working dilligently to provide the best experience." We don't want the BEST experience. We want the newest one.

Then, Google skipped you with the Nexus 4. It left me feeling like a kid with only an Atari 2600, digging through a pile of games at K-Mart, hoping to find the 2600 version of Super Mario Brothers. You were passed up; left behind; forgotten.

You can say you want to provide us the best possible experience. We're not buying it. And Google REALLY isn't buying it. When the #1 OS writes you, your spectrum, and your customer service off for the 2600, it is time to reprioritize. Maybe ISIS isn't a great idea? Maybe not providing fanboys a Nexus experience (When thats what they want) is not a good idea? Maybe watching AT&T's network get faster and more reliable than yours and NOT HAVING the #1 OS maker support your network....

After having used only Nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus for a while now, I doubt I will ever go back to any device that doesn't run pure Android. Yeah, I'm also addicted to Nova Prime, but the fact of the matter is that it's an overlay that only enhances Android, rather than bastardize it, as so many manufacturers choose to do. If it weren't for my grandfathered unlimited plan, I would've left VZ as soon as the Nexus 4 came out. I hope the company can step up it's game a little and just knock off the iron grip it has on Android. I don't think iPhones have to wait for their updates.

Add me to the list of people who demand 4.3 for my GNex ASAP. And while you're at it, Verizon, get on board with the Nexus 5---and let Google update it for me.

Of course, I guess if we want awesome, uninstallable VZ apps like VZ Backup Assistant and My Verizon Mobile, we will have to wait for a way for the company to shoehorn them into 4.3.

Actually you know what would be very nice of Verizon...

If at the very earliest they stopped pushing major updates to the GNex on

December 15th 2013 aka 2 years after it's release, followed by the end of

major release updates pushing of minor updates & security updates that have

been released, such as the newest release which just closed the master key

issue.

Long story short, in my eyes, if they're selling the phones on a 2 year

contract they need to support & have replacements for said device for at

minimum the full term of said contract.

I personally would love to see 4.4.xxx on my phone and would be tickled

pink if 4.5/5.0 came to my phone but am under no expectations of 1st party

support to get them onto my phone.

Verizon: I'm not even going to ask you for an ETA or a fixed date. Can you at least confirm that the Galaxy Nexus will definitely get an update to 4.3 or 4.4 at some point in the future, or state definitively that it will not? Heck, could you even confirm whether the Galaxy Nexus will ever receive updates beyond 4.2.2? That's all I ask. Keep the dream alive. Please.

That said, I agree with everyone else here that once my contract is up, I'm jumping ship and going to another carrier that allows Google to update the next Nexus phone. In fact, the only reason I switched to Verizon in the first place was due to the fact that, here in the DC area, Verizon is the only provider with fairly reliable voice calling in the Metro system's tunnels. I was very happy on that other carrier with the stripey blue ball in its logo, apart from coverage in those tunnels, so maybe I'll go back to them. My wife can get the next iPhone from them, too, so there's really nothing holding us here.

Anyway, please respond to my plea above for definite confirmation whether the Galaxy Nexus will or will not get another update. No dates or ETAs necessary. Thanks!

FWIW, tho, there's a teeny, tiny chance of 4.3 soon. The Note 3 comes out next month with 4.3. It's a Sammy with LTE. So...maybe.

And I see Google Wallet's finally available for the GNex. Talk about late to the party. Thanks for nothing, Verizon. Refused to let us install a mobile payment system because you're cooking up your own version which is mindbogglingly limited (only works with two cards (sometimes)) and never got released for the GNex. Now that the phone's 3 months shy of its 2nd birthday, we're finally allowed to install the Google payment system that's been working and ready to go the whole time.

I hope Tmo is ready for the plethora of people on december 15th (gnex release date 2011) to activate their new N5's
i'm mostly using wifi data even on my phone, and barely make/receive phone calls, so i never really notice the claimed great VZW speed.

You can install Google wallet, but you cannot use tap to touch to pay. They have left that portion of GW blocked. I updated the GW app, and entered my CC information. When I click "SET UP TAP AND PAY" in the GW app on the home page, I get the error, "There was a problem loading your funding source."

I did a Google search about this. One person on a Google forum mentioned that you need a "New SIM card with an NFC secure element in side of it,' or something like that. So, I trotted on down to the VZ store, and requested a "New SIM card with the secure element inside of it." Installed the SIM, made a phone call successfully, got the same error when I tried to "SET UP TAP AND PAY".

Calling VZ tech support was no better. While they wouldn't admit to violating net neutrality, or violating their agreement with the .gov for the spectrum they purchased, they DID admit that they had no idea what a "Secure SIM" is. At this point, I am beginning to doubt that there is such a thing.

Well played, VZ. Cut off your nose to spite your Nexus customer's faces.

sorry if this idea has already been bounced off the forum. I'd have to say, 4.3 sounds pretty great right now, as I have a high-capacity GNex and TRIM would really help my speed. I know how anal Verizon is with their updates, but I can bear with them if I say to myself they're fixing some huge battery draining glitch and that's the reason we get our rightful OS updates so late.

This time is different though. No one who owns the GNex has ever come across an update that brought huge UI changes. Yeah Jelly Bean was pretty big, but KitKat has the potential to bring some really significant changes.

Ergo, I would be willing to skip 4.3 altogether and receive the brand-new, well polished, smooth Android version in a Nexus-like timely manner. I move that Verizon makes plans to do so. Is there anyway its customers could have influence over the process? Or am I just getting my hopes up that they hear me?

Verizon has recently promised 2013 Nexus 7 owners LTE capabilities, but I swear if they don't come out with the Nexus 5 on Verizon I'm switching to AT&T before the 5 sells out (which won't take long).

Anyone on the same page as me? Anybody catching my drift?

I will probably switch back to ATT after my contract ends in December. The experience of the GNex on VZW has been terrible. The delays in the updates are awful and the lack of communication around them is despicable. VZW's "thorough testing" is just nonsense because guess what? Since the phone was released in December 2011 I've not been able to send a MMS with wifi turned on... ever. Yep, every time the message just hangs... and the only option is to turn off wifi and resend, and then it works just fine. How did they not manage to catch that in their "thorough testing" and not fix a bug that's been open for nearly two years now!?

I'm just hopeful the Nexus 5 runs on ATT LTE and I will happily jump ship. Heck at this point I'd consider TMo too just to get away from VZW's horribly broken update process.

Same here. MMS will NOT SEND on Wifi. It hangs and hangs until I switch wifi off. At that point it may send, but usually I need to delete and resend over 3G/4G. Such crap. I'm going to AT&T as well. 12/15/13 and I'm out of here.

My Prediction: Considering Verizon skipped two updates before 4.2.2, I believe that they will wait until Kit-Kat is released and then about 1 month later release the update. I agree with all that the Verizon Galaxy Nexus is NOT a Nexus.....more like the Verizon Galaxy Noxious. I currently have 4 phones with Verizon and it is highly unlikely that I will continue with Verizon once my contract is up.

Verizon just doesn't seem to get the "Nexus" concept.

This is incredibly frustrating and your customer supports' obvious canned responses only increase that frustration by seeming to assume that we are idiots. They come off as belittling with their candy coded cheerfulness that only provides empty words with no solutions Give some statements with concrete terms and goals please.

Last I heard, HTC was planning on the end of the month for the goal of pushing out the 4.3 update on the Verizon Wireless version of the HTC One.

Having the binaries available does not equal having the actual update available.

Unless you know how to build the OS from the binaries yourself, the availability of binaries doesn't mean there's an update ready to download (though there should be by now). Keep checking for the factory image here:

Once 4.3 shows up there, THEN you can download it and apply it yourself, or wait (and wait, and wait, and wait) for Verizon to push it as an OTA update.

One more year in Verizon's Nexus prison, then I'm outta here.
