Not receiving IPhone 4s text messages to S4

I upgraded my iphone 4s to a Galaxy S4 this past Saturday. I already knew I was going to have an issue with sending and receiving text messages, so I made sure I turned off my IMessage and turned off my phone when I traded in my phone.

One of my friends has a Iphone 4s, she texted me yesterday and it went through but she send she had to deliver it twice because the first time it didn't deliver. She was trying to text me this morning and it's not delivering to me again. Is this a Iphone of S4 problem? Can you help me fix this either way?! HELP!

Also I know other people that have IPhones and I am able to receive their messages. Thanks!

In response to your first message, Yes I am also receiving messages from some iphones, its like off and on. I found this article and have done everything it suggested. Still not working for the one person that presented the issue to me in the first place.

My next step is going into verizon and talking to them, if that doesnt work maybe call apple and if that doesn't work get my phone number changed. Let me know if you get yours to work. This is sooooo frustrating I wish i didnt switch now!

ok...did what was suggested in the message below about going to apple and unregistered my iphone...it was still listed so hopefully that will help...did you do that too?

I called apple customer support this morning, after arguing with the prompts...just keep saying "associate" someone helped me...they were able to turn off my imessage, so hopefully it will work in a couple of hours!! so try that

My daughter upgraded to an S4 from an iPhone 4S this past Friday with AT&T. She is also getting this problem which seems to be intermittent. She gets some messages but not from everyone. It seems to be limited to people who are trying to communicate with her via other iPhones.

Thanks so much for doing all you have done already. If you still have that iPhone, go in to disable iMessages. Keep in mind, if you have other Apple products, you will need to also deactivate iMessage on them. Has this also been done?

I have the same problem. I switched from a Verizon iPhone 4 to a Samsung Galaxy 4S in October. This is what I have done so far:

Visited two Verizon stores who both said "It's an Apple problem, not a Verizon problem." -- very unhelpful :smileysad:

Searched multiple forums where people are discussing this problem. I've followed every single lead I could find.

Reset my old iPhone 4 to factory settings -- lost ALL data

Changed my Apple id.

Erased my iPhone from the Apple cloud.

Made sure my family and friends with iPhones have my number listed as "mobile" not "iPhone" in their contacts

But I am still unable to get messages from other people's iPhones.

So what is the actual solution to this? I'm considering moving from my iPhone 4s to the Samsung Galaxy S5 when it's released and I don't want to have this same problem. Is there even a fix?

This happened to me too. I forgot to turn off the Imessage before I turned my Iphone into for recycling. I unregistered my phone off Itunes. I took about 30 days before Apple realized that I was no longer an Iphone user, You can have your contacts turn off the Imessage for now, Than in 30 days they can turn it on again. That's what worked for me. I know waiting 30 days sucks but it did fix it self after than and I've been getting them all the time.

You unregistered your Iphone from Itunes right? If you did wait 30 days to see what happens. I waited 30 days and everything is fine. I get my messages.

Your friends with iPhones running the current IOS software must make a change on their end. In the settings, messages - it must be switched to sending a text via SMS when iMessage is not available. This will likely fix the texting issues. I spent hours on the phone with Apple & Verizon - shame on neither one of them figuring out this simple fix.

Settings --> Mesages --> Send as SMS This sends messages as SMS when iMessage is unavailable.

Ugh, I bought the samsung galaxy last night and i'm having the same issue. I turned by Imessage off on my old Iphone, but I guess because my kids have Ipods its going to come up on theirs.

I'm can't ask my contacts to adjust their settings......

I'm thinking at this point of just returning the phone and going back to Apple.

Well, you do have a few options without going back to your iPhone. You can disable iMessage on your children's Apple devices. If that's not an option (they use it to iMessage other friends), you could just create another Apple ID for them to use (if they are old enough). If neither of those options are workable for you, I'm afraid you may be too closely tied to the Apple platform to break away.

I have an Android Bionic and the last week of February I stopped receiving SOME, not all, texts. I get texts from friends, family, etc., but I am signed up to get text alerts for traffic and weather from local Atlanta tv and radio stations. Those text alerts have completely stopped. In addition, over the last few days I also have to continually type in my Facebook password when going to Facebook. There is another site that I go to a lot from emails and just yesterday, my phone made me type in my user name and password for that site...something I haven't had to do in over a year. In addition, some of my contacts are missing. I have deleted my cache; re-signed up for traffic and weather alerts, but I am still not receiving the alerts. I called Verizon tech support last week and the lady who helped me really didn't help me. She just said it didn't look like I had anything blocked so she had no idea what would be wrong. This is very frustrating...we travel 43 miles each way to work and home and we relied on those alerts. I even tried using Hangouts, which I do not like, but I still did not get the alert texts. Then I signed up for Verizon Messaging to no avail.

This doesnt work. The reason this doesnt work is because Apple still sees your phone number, which is now an Android phone, and an iPhone. Therefore your friends with iPhones(some of them anyway), their phones will still see your phone as iMessage capable, and tried to send as an iMessage.

I have the same phone as my wife (Galaxy s4), however I have NEVER had an iPhone or an iMessage account. Anyone with an iPhone with iMessage turned ON will see my phone as NOT iMessage compatible, and their phone will send the message as a standard SMS. With my wifes phone, their iPhones will see my wifes phone/number as COMPATIBLE for iMessage and will try and send as an iMessage....UNSUCCESSFULLY.

Total crock. I broke my droid 2 weeks ago, activated my old iPhone for 5 days. All my conversations with iPhone users are stuck in iMessage Since I finally got a new galaxy. How do I reach out to people to request that they change their settings? This is absolute crap.

I Almost lost a home sale because of this garbage.

I had the same issue when I first switched from an iPhone back to Android this is what I did and it worked like a charm. Go to:

1) https://supportprofile.apple.com/homePage

2) Log in with your apple ID and password

3) Select the iPhone you need to deregister

4) You’ll see the message ‘Are you sure you want to unregister and delete this product?’ – Click ‘Unregister’ again

I Have taken everyone's suggestions - and still have the same problem I receive some Text messages from Iphones and not others. I have deactivated my iphone, deristered all of my apple accounts and devices and numbers. Pulled out and put back the SIM card and reset the Galaxy S4 and still have a problem with texts coming in from iphone users. Anyone have any other ideas??

I'm sorry to learn of any continuing issues w/messaging! Thank you for doing what you have done so far when it comes to troubleshooting. Let's try one more step OK? Please send a text message with the word "STOP" to the number 48369. Once you do that successfully, please test the messaging and let me know how it goes.

You guys can text stop, unregistered your products and do a rain dance but the only thing that is going to help is to contact every person you texted with an i phone and request that they start sending messages through sms by completely shutting off their iMessaging. No big deal. Update, it has been a month and I jumped through all the hoops mentioned in this thread. I am still not receiving texts from certain iPhone users.

I have made all those attempts. The stop message..and contacting apple. Their response was contact verizon
