Galaxy S3 not sending picture messages

Two weeks after receiving the S3, it quit sending picture messages. To anyone, no matter what network or phone they had. I called Verizon Tech Support and they had me do all these non wonderful working things, and finally told me I would have to do a factory reset. We all know how much of a pain a factory reset is. It worked, for about a week. Now it is not sending picture messages again. Anyone else have this problem? I shouldn't have to do a factory reset every week or two. This is ridiculous. Is this a common problem? And if so, why hasn't it been fixed yet. Any suggestions?

Kamryn, let's get you back connected via text message! Have you downloaded a 3rd party Text Messaging application to your device? If so, I recommend that you delete that application. Addtionally, you will also need to delete any unwanted text messaging conversations and power your phone off/on to soft reset it. I trust that these steps will improve the performance of your device. Not able to send picture text messages to this day. I was told by my local Verizon store it was the software and that I needed to wait for a software update. Still waiting!! Pay $200 a month for phone lines and now I can't even connect via wifi or connect to the internet period. I'm almost so done with Verizon.

If your phone is still under warranty, or you have the extended warranty, request a different phone. Sounds like it's the phone itself. I have the S3 (one of the very first) and have never had a problem. Do you have your data on when sending mms?

Additionally while attempting to send picture messages are you connected via wi-fi or the VZW network? Are you able to receive picture messages? Do you experience the issue in all areas? No I am not using a 3 party messaging application. It does not matter if I am connected via wifi or the Verizon network. Sometimes it will send messages on either wifi or Verizon and sometimes it won't. It really is hit or miss. I am able to receive picture messages. Happens in all areas, whether I have 4 bars, or 1 bar. Whether I'm on 3g or 4g. 98273 is the zip code. I was told by a Verizon rep that I need to wait for some update to come out, I was told that in July and still waiting.

Yes, data is on. I can receive, sending is the issue. I do have a replacement lmao and it has the same issue.

Android Version 4.1.2 and 16 GB memory with 8 gb available. I do not see where is says software version. No damage to the phone.

my S3 will not send pics either. was there a resolution to the problem?

my husband and I both have been swap out from a samsung galaxy nexus and motorola droid razz max to samsung galaxy s3 and both can no longer send picture text. we found that if a picture keeps trying to send for mins turn phone of reboot it will then send the picture. never had this with the old phones. seem its a galaxy s3 issue some where... I'll be calling tech support...third party app is not causing this because if you shut phone down it does work ago but after a day it stops working again..

just found out on me, and my husbands Samsung galaxy s3 the wifi is causing it. i turn wifi off it sent it right away. it should work with wifi on but for some reason to send picture messages if you have wifi on turn it off. read on other message boards a lot of people been have a problems sending pictures message with wifi on. bug in software on galaxy s3 ????? because are old phone never had this problem.... I will call tech support and hopefully they know about this and fix it with the 4.3 update because a lot of people have this problem.

Called Verizon tech and so far seems to be working right. tech had me update roaming on sim card, and it seems it worked. right now I can send pictures on wifi, and it sends it supper fast too... might work for some one too. open dialer hit star228 call says updated sims roaming updated and seen my picture texts work fine... call tech talk to them ask if will help. thanks tech support..

that's a no-no on a smart phone, it updates every time the phone is rebooted.

We would love to help cede822! Unfortunately MMS messages are not eligible to be sent via WIFI on the listed device. This would be normal functionality of the listed device. In order to send MMS, you would need to be connected to the active VZW network. My apologies that WIFI would not be able to be utilized for this option. So what is it about Verizon that makes this not possible. At&t doesn't have this issue. My mom has the same phone (SG3) as me and she has At&t and can send mms messages via wifi or the network. So it's only Verizon??? Because it's not a function of the phone itself.

After experiencing the same problem, I just rebooted the phone (turned off and back on). Message immediately sent.

Yesterday I noticed similar problems with my S3. Could not send messages on Wi-Fi or 4g, both text and mms. By sending on wifi I mean, I am connected to my home network, but also have all my cell networks turned on. I would try to send a message, and it would spinwheel. The recipient would respond to it though, even though it looked like it hadn't been sent on my end. I turned phone off, pulled battery, turned back on, still didn't work. I have the 4.3 update and had already hard reset the phone after I got the update a week ago.

I ran out to run an errand, tried to send a message, it sent right away, and I noticed I was on 3g.

Shortly after, a friend came over with a Verizon S3,still on android 4.1.2, and he too could not send messages on 4g. Powered his phone off and pulled the battery, powered back on, still not working. So. I had an idea... I had us both change our mobile networks from global to LTE/CDMA and messages sent right away.

I have this problem and it just started on Saturday (Dec 28 2013). I've had this phone or over a year and never had a problem sending a pic via text whether on the Verizon network or Wi-Fi. At home and work, I always connect to Wi-Fi rather than use my Verizon minutes so as not to run up my minutes. I don't know why this suddenly has happened. I restarted my phone on Monday (Dec 30 2013) and then was able to send, but it happened to me today again. This is a pain. I wonder if Verizon did a recent update that messed up this feature.

You can't send/receive picture texts over wi-fi, they have to go over the cellular data network. What may have been happening is that you had your data and wi-fi both turned on and the phone switched seamlessly as needed whenever you were sendng/receiving picture messages. With the latest updates, some users are encountering issues when both wi-fi and cellular data are turned on in that the phone doesn't switch seamlessly and they have to manually turn off wi-fi for the messages to send/receive. They count against your data package, though, not your data plan.

My New Years Day present was not being able to send mms pics either. Never a problem before until today. At home I keep SG3 on with wifi and mobile data. After reading some posts, I turned wifi off and pics were sent. I powered phone on and off, set wifi back on and tried again. Pics went this time and 4g was used. I hope this is not going to be a continuing problem.

So is there a "fix" other than having to manually turn off the wifi to send a MMS? Is this a Verizon issue or Samsung? Only the S3 has this issue not my Note3

I changed my mobile networks from global to LTE/CDMA and haven't had any problems since. (Settings > More Settings > Mobile Networks > Network Mode). Not exactly a fix, but an acceptable work-around.

I also can't usually send pictures through text messaging. Once in a while it works. I even tried sending them to someone I was sitting right next to and they all failed. I think the *228 got one to go through.

You don't use *228 on a 4G LTE phone such as the S3 to update the Preferred Roaming List; that's handled by the phone's SIM card automatically whenever you reboot the phone. Have you tried turning off wi-fi and ensuring that mobile data is on when ending picture texts? As noted earlier in this thread, they won't send/receive over wi-fi and sometimes the phone doesn't automatically switch to mobile data to send them if both wi-fi and data are turned on.

Contact your carrier's tech support line and ask for the MSL service code. It will be unique to your phone. There is also a unique dialer to get to the needed info screens. Ask for that as well.

1. From the phone dialer, dial _____________ (as provided).

2. Tap “Edit.”

3. Tap the text field to bring up the keyboard, then enter the MSL (as provided).

4. Tap “OK.”

5. Tap “Others” / “MMSC URL”

7. Tap “mmsc”

8. Enter "http://mms.plspictures.com" (Note: "http://" is required)

9. Tap “OK” (do this even if the address appears correct without editing.)

10. Turn your phone off and back on.

The problem for my phone was an extra space ( . com ) in the web address. Once corrected, all was well.
