Has anyone found a good case for the Droid yet?

I don't want a holster, I carry my droid in my pocket, but I want a nice case that will protect from drops and every day wear and tear.

I've read on the forums that the one Verizon sells makes it difficult to use the slideout keyboard. Is this true? Can anyone recommend a better one?

How about just buying insurance and forget about using a case? The great thing about the Droid is it's not nearly as slippery as the iPhone's glossy plastic casing. I'm not nearly as worried about dropping my Droid as my iPhone 3GS.

They pushed me into getting one at the store and I got the black Body Glove. It was a nice case - looked good and made opening and shutting the keyboard easier.

But then also it was rubber and made it hard to take out of pants. Also it won't fit in the dock.

If you are going to use the dock you cant have any case.

I carry it naked now and I'm happier. You CANT scratch the screen - just the black sides. There's a video on YouTube where a guy takes keys to the screen and goes nuts - not one scratch.

i saw that on you tube and was ok i do not need a screen protector then oh cow a i have scratch on the screen. so much for that .

I actually got one from the verizon store that's got a clip on the back, and it's leather and closes with a magnet. I like it.

i purchased the shell/holster combo from the verizon website. it comes with a shell for the phone, just like the body glove but the back side of the case is much, much easier to remove but stays on just as well. then the case slides into the holster, of course backwards, to protect the screen.

i have put the case in my pants, no problems. used the holster, no problems.

by the way, if you drop the phone, just remember the screen is glass. i believe any fall will automatically break the glass. i mean what thin piece of glass wouldn't unless someone could come out with a video to prove me wrong. ANY TAKERS? :smileywink:

just remember, the Droid is an investment.

oh yeah. the holster/shell combo is great. the shell has texture so i know it wont fall out of my hands unless i am tackled by someone, even then i think i have a good grip so it would have to be hard.

the holster is nice. the clip is large and will not detach form the main part of the holster and is quite large making it difficult to come off any normal size belt.

as said before, the back comes off pretty well so it can fit in the car dock.

just watch out for the cases with magnets. the droid has magnets in the device which if you put other magnets nearby will activate a program. just look at the car dock that comes from verizon. once the droid is placed in the car dock, the "car home" program is activated. there have been other posts stating that their devices were turned on, unbeknownst to them, and drained the battery when not in use.

I just bought the body glove from VZ and I must say the rubber texture makes me feel better about possible dropping it and also will keep it from slidding off a table etc. but I was having a terrible time sliding the keyboard out with this case installed. I could hear the rubber squeeking and it was just not gunna work at all. Although I won't use the keyboard much it bothered me enough to think about how this could be fixed. I held the droid up to the light as I slid the keyboard with just the front protector on then with just the back then with both and determined the grabber tabs were the culprit in a few different areas. I decided to grab a standard cardboard nail file and take a little off of the top of the problem tabs (keep in mind if you do this there isn't a lot you can take off before the whole thing is gone). I started with the bottom cover then made sure the keyboard came out smooth then added the top. now after just a few minutes of light filing the keyboard comes out just as smooth as without the case and the case itself appears to be just as solid. Not sure if I will keep the case on forever but it makes me feel like it's more protected for the time being.

My son purchased a rubber case for his Droid. The case has 2 parts to it, so one piece attaches to the bottom and the other attaches to the top part, which is the part that slides open. The problem with it, or probably any other case is, the top of the keyboard that slides open is slightly covered by the case. This makes it difficult to click on the keys in the very top row.

i am not sure why people who use the zagg are considering it a case? all the zagg is, is a screen protector for the whole phone.

i would feel safer dropping my Verizon shell/holster from 6 inches to a foot because i know that the case would absorb most of the impact. however, the zagg screen protector is only a millimeter thin. if you tell me that this provides more protection then why arent cars, airplanes, and any form of transportation covered with this thing?

dont get me wrong, i have used zagg before and it is great to protect a plastic screen from getting scratched, i know, i used the full body protector for my EnV3 and the screen protector for my Lg Vu. but in no way would i consider this for an adequate substitute for an actual case.

they now have a snap-on cover liek the blackberries have, but without the belt clip...

this thing is perfect. can put it in a bad or in a pocket with keys without worrying abotu scratching the screen.

no need for the back-side cases or the 'screen protector' flims... all those are obselete. get the hard snap-on cover it is by-far the best protection and does not collect fuzz, or significantly add to the size of the phone, or hinder keyboard (as you remove it to use it).

they have them for the eris as well.

I found a very good case at Walmart for $9.95. It is called "foneCASE' by foneGEAR, LLC, model number N28. The Droid fits nice and securely (but not too tight). The Droid will fit in this case with the rubber body glove on, but it is a real tight squeeze. The "foneCASE" is not leather but it is made of a heavy duty canvas material. The flap closes via velcro so you don't have to worry about magnetic fields messing up your phone. It has a sturdy clip to attach to a belt. The manufacturer has a web site (www.foneGEAR.com) but I could not find this particular model. I highly recommend this case.

I use the OPTECH USA (wierd name since they are made in China!) Soft Pouch attached to my belt. The soft pouch protects my droid very well, the velco clip holds to my belt great, even when getting in and out of the truck (my truck will knock off the clip on kind), and I can get the naked droid out quickly.

Check out the cases made by Amzer... sold on Amazon or Fommy.com Fommy has a youtube review of the hard black crystal snap on case and you can really see what it looks like - looks very nice. Myself i got the black rubberized hard case by them. I got thesame case. It looked pretty cool until the phone locked up and I had to pull the cover off to remove the battery. My Droid has locked up 3 or 4 times in the week I've had it. I got a leather holster and got rid of the case.

I do not know what it is called, but I bought it on 11/6/09, the same day that I got the Droid and when it first came out. Two piece system. Dark Blue hard plastic shell fits around the screen and matching piece fits around the back. Sliding is no problem.

Needless to say, if I choose to dock, I will most likely have to remove one or both parts from time to time. Simply a matter of personal choice.

For me, I don't want to hastle with invoking warranties, insurance, etc. I just want my phone to be protected, not to mention the costly amount of time that it would take to reload apps, etc. No insurance or warranty for that.

I had a thin but hard shell molded case around my Blackberry Pearl 8130 and it worked great and served its purpose. Dropped the phone on much more than one occasion and I never had damage due to the outer protective shell. I know that this has added alot of bulk, but that's my choice. No problem in my pocket.

I have never particularly cared for the rubberized glove like cases. I don't think that they are as protective as the hard shell casings.

I gave up on the belt clip styles long ago. For me, too geeky. I can go on, but I believe I have stated my choice.

You can take the clip off the back and use the plain insert if you just like the body glove case and dont want the clip.

Just another point about the Zagg whole body kit, the coverage is not 100%. The corners and a strip around the Droid is unprotected. Additionally, the strips they provide covering portions of the sides is more cosmetic than anything protective. The front and back film does provide good coverage. I may end up removing the sides but will leave the front and back intact. I have ordered the VZ case & holster combo to provide some protection for the Droid corners.

Was excited about ordering this one, but read a whole bunch of negative reviews about it always popping off, the finish rubbing off easily revealing white underneath, etc....uggg....anyone else found something that looks nice like this, but have had great experience with it so far that you can recommend?

I bought the hard case from Verizon the other day and the keyboard slides out with no problem. The one I bought is very handsome--looks like chrome on the front with a black back. I like it very much. It also comes in pink, blue, and clear plastic.

Note to all- There is a known problem with the Black Snap On Silicone case. I got one and returned it within a day because it kept popping off one edge of the keyboard. I think it was due to a lack of clearance and the back of the screen was knocking it off when pushing down on the keyboard. The second one did the same and I returned it tonight for good. The Verizon guy helping me said that many folks have had the same problem. For some reason people who have the pink case (my wife included) have had no problems. After I returned my case, I bought a Body Glove case. It's rubberized hard plastic but from what I can tell so far, it's top notch.

I bought the clear plastic snap-on cover that they were selling at the Verizon store (plus a screen protector).

I wanted something that I could slip into my pocket and keep the phone from getting scratched up. It's worked well so far, but it does make the keyboard more difficult to use, and I doubt it would help much if i dropped it.

I'm going to order a Zagg Invisishield and try it out. It worked well on my iPod Touch, but I'm not sure how well it will stay on the bulky Droid. But at least it should protect it from scratches, but yet still work in the docks.

I'll take my chances if I drop it... I don't think the "rubberized" cases would make much of a difference, and I'd rather have the functionality of using it in the docks.
