HTC Rezound: Unfortunately default lock screen has stopped

I keep getting a pop-up box stating "Unfortunately default lock screen has stopped". I have also received "Unfortunately System UI has stopped" but less frequently. I am able to select "OK" and use my phone as normal, but it is a bit annoying. Any suggestions on how to stop these message from popping up? They just started occurring today.

Wow. Thats funny. Mine started having this problem recently too. What the hell did Verizon change that is causing us all to have the same problem in the same time frame. And how do we fix it w/o a factory reset.

We both have HTC Thunderbolt devices. Both error messages posted above started last night and are STILL OCCURRING as I write this. Once again Verizon is hiding in the shadows like cowards. Get this resolved Verizon!!

I called Verizon and got their Level 2 tech support. Actually got someone who cares. That's a first! Verizon contacted HTC and now have a tech trouble ticket generated. If and when I receive further info from Verizon, I will post.

I am not using Widget Locker. I am using LauncherPro though, but I have been for two years. As far as I can tell, I haven't made any major changes to my phone or apps and my phone is not rooted.

I am getting the same thing since yesterday, but also, has anyone noticed that icons are missing from the top bar? For example, it always showed a clock up there if I had an alarm set and now it doesn't. It also stopped showing what type of connection I'm getting (3G, 4G, etc.) Anybody else get this as well?

My Rezound started doing this today as well. No lock apps installed. Anxious to see what the resolution is for this! Have tried several reboots, pulled battery, etc. No changes have been made and no new apps installed recently.

Getting the error, but all of my icons on the top are still displaying correctly...no changes up there!

Yes, every once in a while my status bar will disappear, but so far it keeps reappearing a few minutes later.

I have also been getting errors mentioned above for the last few days. My notification bar completely disappears after I get "default system UI has Stopped" and then it returns a few seconds later. It is extremely annoying. I'm using a completely stock HTC Thunderbolt.

Yes, I have an HTC Rezound and I'm getting both the "Unfortunately, system UI has stopped" and "Unfortunately, Default Lock screen has stopped". My icon bar disappears afterwards for a minute. And after that, sometimes it doesn't show my connectivity icon (4G or WiFi). Super annoying.

I Googled the first error message and based on a thread I found on an Android forum, I just tried going into Settings --> Applications --> All Applications --> System UI and then I hit Force Stop. It reset my background to the default background, but so far everything else seems the same. It has only been a little while since I did this, but so far, no error message.

I too called Verizon & was transferred to their 2nd level. First they claimed they knew nothing about it. Once I told him it was a known issue & all over their forum I was told it was due to a failed update & that the only way to fix it was to do a full reset of the device. That is NOT a fix, it's a bandaid. I will wait it out... friggin' annoyed!

I did a factory reset and it didn't fix the issue. I still get both, the SystemUI and Default lock screen has stopped.

Exactly what I thought. I even told the guy that the same 'update' that caused this issue will be pushed back down after a restore.

I've been having the same issue for two days; however, this morning, my phone rebooted itself on its own and the issue seems to be resolved. *crossing my fingers* I guess Verizon finally fixed whatever they broke.

I was getting both of these messages on my phone for the last couple of days, I have no idea why it started.

"Unfortunately default lock screen has stopped"

"Unfortunately System UI has stopped"

Here's the solution:

Go to Settings>Apps>All Apps

Scroll to System UI

Force Stop

It will give you a message that says that the program will misbehave. The only thing I've noticed since I did that is that both of those annoying pop up messages stopped and my wallpaper changed, but I was able to change my wallpaper back.

So far, so good!! :smileyhappy::smileyhappy:

This did not fix it for me. I tried it yesterday. I did notice it didn't happen for a while (could just be a coincidence), but I still continue to get the errors last night and today.

@PurpleReign: tks for the heads up. Unfortunately next time you reboot the phone the service will start again. While this is a great temp fix(if it works) Verizon or Google needs a permanent fix. My 2 cents.

My Rezound started doing this today, well at least its the first i have noticed it. A friend of mine has the Thunderbolt and his started doing it yesterday from what he told me. So seems they really screwed something up. I tried everything but a factory reset, i am not going through that BS again.

Ok here is what i have found fixed it....

I have an Android tablet as well, and both the tablet and my phone have the Facebook App on them. Now i noticed when i received a notification on both the phone would get that stop message and the tablet was fine. So i experimented and had someone send me a message on Facebook, and again both devices got the notification but when i tapped on it on the phone i got the UI Stopped Working message, the tablet was fine and went right to the Facebook App.

Facebook did update on both this morning, i remember that because i went to check on a post from a friend and the phone still had the update notification showing, i cleared it without much thought as it has been updating a lot lately.

So i went through the phone starting various apps, no problem until i opened the Facebook App and promptly got the Lock Screen has stopped working message. So i uninstalled the Facebook App, and rebooted the phone just as an extra precaution, i tried plenty of reboots and such earlier and no help.

Now that the Facebook App is gone, the problem is gone... So far.... Will keep watching for problems but it appears its due to Facebook trying to send a notification that causes the crash. If your having this problem its worth a try removing Facebook.

OK, here's how you fix this. This is a Facebook issue, not an Android issue or a Verizon Issue or an HTC Rezound Issue. It may be specific to the HTC Rezound, but it's a Facebook notification issue, not an issue with anything else.

I happened to log into Facebook today and saw a big message on the top that said, "Become a Facebook for Android Beta Tester!" With a big button to "Click here."

I became a tester and installed the Beta version and the problem is gone.

So, either wait it out for the next release of Facebook for your phone, or become a beta tester.

This works, but, unfortunately, you lose Facebook, which is the primary thing most people use their phones for. ;-)

The next version of Facebook fixes the issue -- to get it, you have to become a Beta Tester for Facebook for Android, or, wait it out.

So I just called into Verizon because my HTC Rezound is doing the same as everyone else in this forum. After getting hung up on twice trying to explain the issue, I got to Level 2 tech support as well. I described my problem that I force stopped the System UI then the rep instantly stated that there was malware on my phone. He had me do a factory reset on my phone and when the phone was loading up all the apps again to skip Gmail because "most likely where the malware was coming from." I skipped gmail app install, he told me to skip around the pages of my phone to see if the error would come back up. He said just don't log into gmail as that's where the malware is coming from. Then he told me I need to delete my gmail address and create a new one to fix this problem. He said if I log into my gmail app and the error comes up then that "has to be where the issue is coming from." I logged into my gmail account and no issue, then he went on to say how "this is why I don't like android because it doesn't always work from one phone to another." I noticed that my google talk reverted back from google hangouts back to the old Google Talk app. Then he jumped to the conclusion that google hangouts could be causing the issue. Then he attempted to tell me I wouldn't have this issue if I upgraded to an Iphone and proceeded to try to sell me into upgrading to the Iphone 5. And he also then went on to tell me he could add on a $4.95 charge to be able to talk to some phone specialist department who could assist me in setting up my phone.

I've never had a problem setting up my phone, what this guy said the whole time never made any sense, didn't sound like he really cared or attempted to hear out my problem or even troubleshoot. All he did the whole time was tell me how much he preferred Iphones and apple and that its google to blame.

After I got off the phone with him, I searched thru the apparently only source of malware on the internet, you know, Google and found this forum with SEVERAL people who are ALL experiencing the SAME problem with HTC phones. Coincidence? I don't believe so and I certainly don't want to continue my contract with a company who's not even attempting to troubleshoot the phone I bought from them at all and instead just wants me to buy a new phone. I thought Verizon ranked extremely high on customer service, what happened?

Anyone have any real suggestions to work with since we're obviously all alone in this effort and have to figure it out ourselves?

Oh, and it has to be the Google account that's associated with your Google Play Store on your phone. Join the group and you can become a Beta Tester, and the problem is gone.

I am having the same trouble this evening. Screen says I am in in airplane mode when trying to call. Says IU system error when I try to text. Have tried the force stop of IU system or UI (I do not know which letter combination is correct) and working currently. I definitely believe this is a rezound problem.

I've gotten the message again exactly twice since I posted it, which pales in comparison to the 50 or 100 times I had gotten it earlier today. So it's still not completely fixed, but it's way better with the Beta version.

I tried the Facebook Beta, didn't do jack for me... I did it all and went to install the beta, first time i opened it to sign in i got the UI crash, then after it signed in i got the lock screen crash message.

I uninstalled Facebook again and the phone is 100% fine.

Its not a Rezound issue, its a crap Facebook App issue. I realize a lot of people would die without their Facebook, but thats how you fix it, dump Facebook on the phone until they get this resolved.

I can login to Facebook from my Android tablet or my Laptop so no major loss, i need a phone that works as a phone without error messages every three minutes more then i need Facebook everywhere i go.

I have been using my phone for about 7 hours now without the Facebook App on it, i have NOT had a single error message and i have been doing everything from calls, texting, email, games, you name it. But i bet if i reinstall Facebook it will crash again.

i agree not a rezound issue, especially since it is happening to my thunderbolt (as others have mentioned). may be a htc phone and fb update issue. i too have u installed fb on my phone, turned it completely off for an hour, and so far no error messages. and i do remember very recently okaying a fb update to install. i don't use fb much on my phone, personally prefer a larger screen for that, but if a phone is all you have, and you want the fb app on it, you may want to try the idea above about using the beta version.

You're right, but I don't get any error messages on mine now unless I actually open the FB notifications screen. No matter what else I do, no errors -- so certainly it's not interfering with calling, texting, etc.

I avoided the FB app for a long time by simply creating a bookmark to

m.facebook.com

There's actually features on the mobile site that aren't in the app (like

the ability to upload a picture in a thread and copy/paste text).

Issue is def the FB app. I uninstalled it last nite - no errors. This am I figured I'd add id again to device. Once I launched it...BOOM error msg.

Guess I have to wait for the 'newest release that fixes this bug'

EliNicMal, I'm popping in to help you. Have you downloaded a few 3rd party applications to your device? Some applications will continue to run in the background of your device. As a result, you may get this error message when the app force stops on it's on. I recommend that you uninstall any unwanted applications in Settings > Manage Apps >tap the App > tap Uninstall. Once you've uninstalled a few apps, you will need to power your device off/on to soft reset it. Keep us posted.

Still error free here almost 20 hours later after uninstalling Facebook. Thats all i did to fix it.

I just got off the phone with Verizon and they gave me a number to call about this. The notice we are seeing is about a User Interface, which is part of the software program that makes the application work or not work, as it is in this case. Not sure if it's a software problem with Android or the Facebook, but since it is happening with gmail and facebook, it may be with HTC. I will report back when and if I ever get the resolution to this issue. I have seen this related prompt when toggling the notifications that open the facebook as well as the gmail.

We've done the factory reset and also have been to the Verizon Store. By reading this blog, one of the suggestions was to uninstall facebook. I did this and all the issues have subsided. It's curious about someone on the blog suggesting that it's an attempt for everyone to get off the unlimited data. We were offered to get new phone and off the grandfathered plans quite often these last 2 days.

This has happened to me not just in facebook mode but also when accessing the system - going through to do a resent of the UI system. So this puts things in a different perspective. The user interface is faulty. I even deleted facebook and later reinstalled and reentered my password, etc.,

I just talked with my son on facebook once I asked on line about anyone having this problem with their driods. He said yes and he's phone is not with Verizon. So Verizon is in the clear on this. It has to be an upgrade for the Droid......

I'm sure you have a script you have to go by, but it's not just general "3rd party apps" -- it's Facebook. I'm not sure Facebook could even be considered a 3rd party app since it comes with the phone. The app doesn't "force stop" -- it continues merrily on its way when you hit OK. You guys need to beat up on the Facebook people a bit until they fix this -- us little guys can't get anywhere with them.

Please get on this ASAP with Facebook -- they are leaving us hanging out to dry. I posted the issue on that Facebook for Android Beta Testers thread on Facebook with a link to this particular forum, and they deleted my post and blocked me from posting anything else!! What the hell is the point of having Beta testers if you're going to block them from posting when there's a problem???

Please Verizon, we need you to lean on Facebook with some of that multi-billion dollar muscle!

I went on facebook and asked if any droids out there were having the same problem and yes - but Verizon was not their provider. I haven't heard anyone from iPhones out there having this problem. I'm thinking it's a software platform problem on droids, because it has happened just when I'm pulling down widgets, notifications and facebook. I'm wondering of google is the provider for facebook, if that's the case, then it could be a google problem, since so many apps are google based.

Lock Scree & UI no wifi issues

I removed facebook updates and those error messages are gone. I run a business with my phone and I care more about that than facebook. I apologize to Verizon for thinking it was your fault. That issue also interfered with my phone getting enough signal from wifi.I reinstalled facebook as a browser page and bookmarked it to my screen.. All good now till facebook gets it together the I will update app. I sent them a message also.

i realized today, while i no longer ger the error messages after uninstalling facebook, i can no longer attach anything, even a photo, to a text message or a gmail. this is really making me mad - pay alot of money every month and cannot do sime things like sending an attachment. is anyone else having this type problem too? it just started when all this other crap started.

Just activated a new/refurbished Rezound (Vzw sent because I was having

call drop issues with my old one). I'm not getting the error on this one,

so I thought I'd check the version. Sure enough, not the latest.

I also uninstalled FB, which seemed to solve the two error messages I was getting, so I reinstalled FB. Things worked fine until I later opened the Pages Manager App, so I deleted that too (I don't need/use it anyway). As with you, one other thing that started happening was that I can't open text messages for one particular contact. All I get is a "loading..." screen that never loads. As a temporary work-around, I've started viewing/sending my messages on the Verizon website. I was hoping it would sync with the past text messages, because I've been using these types of communication "history" to chart different milestones. I deleted messages from other contacts, hoping this would bring my total # of messages below whatever threshold that is locking this one up, but no luck there. Seriously frustrating.

Same thing here. Verizon has been on a steady decline for me. To bad there is no other good options for carriers out there. Glad I didn't do the factory reset to my phone would have wasted hours setting everything back up to run into the same issue.

Recent Patches pushed Last night (09/30/2013) For Facebook, Google Mail, Google Chat, and some other Google GARBAGE resolved all my UI issues.

No more crashes.
