Does the LG EnV Touch take a data plan?

My other phone died and I need to resort back to an old phone. My question is whether or not the EnV Touch requires a data plan. I've heard before that it does but you can put a data block on it so it doesn't require one. All in all, am I able to just call *228 and activate the phone without any other requirements and without a data plan?

Yes, you should be able to activate it without a data plan.  If for some reason the system (i.e., if you activate on-line) requires you to add a data plan, you should be able to just choose one so that the phone will activate, then call Customer Service and have them remove it and put a data block on it.
