SENDING MMS MESSAGES

I purchased the samsung galaxy s4 2 weeks ago still learning so much on this phone but am getting very discouraged after trying to send mms messages, & video's. The wheel just keeps spinning on the mms messages and after seems like forever it says message not sent. I have done everything that people have posted on here I even tried the handsent app and it not let me either.For the videos they just wont send at all. Please fix this issue with update or something. I went from an iphone to this phone I not want to regret it. If you have any solutions please help.

Am having same issue its been out there for weeks - when on WIFI at home can't send MMS messages unless you disable WIFI. Tried switching to global and back to LTE and get the same thing - won't send unless wifi disabled. FIX IT VERIZON!

Hi laura_b, i stopped into a vzw corp store recently and started playing with the S3. I know, you have the S4. :smileyhappy: I read a thread here about a fellow cust having that same problem with their S3. So i tried to send an MMS with the wifi and mobile network off.

It didn't work. I got a message stating that i had to turn on mobile network in order to send an MMS. Which means, i'd have to use up some of my data to do that. Bummer.

Picture messages won't send/receive over wi-fi, they have to go over the cellular network. However, they count against your text package, not your data package.

I can understand how frustrating this is for you laura_b, especially after getting a new phone. Video and pictures are very important to staying connected with your friends and family. I would like to help you get this fixed? Do the videos and pictures eventually go through? Are you having issues with sending inside or outside? How big are the pics and videos. Some may be to large to send. Are you having the issues with a certain ph number or all contacts you try and send pictures and videos to? Let's start here so that we can get this resolved.

I can sent to another Galaxy S4 on Verizon but cannot send to an iPhone 4s or iphone 5 on Verizon. I can send a photo to an iPhone 4s on AT&T. How is it that Verizon / Samsung haven't been able to figure this one out? Apparently it's not an issue over on the competition's network.

Verizon, if you are listening, you need to get this fixed. If you aren't listening, then shame on you!

Bill, I just sent a standard photo taken on the S4 to my daughters iphone 4s which is also on Verizon and it took only 10 seconds to send and she got the photo. There must be something wrong with your phone or the iphone on the other end as mine sure worked slick. BTW I had both wifi and data turned on, and it has the latest update.

Bill_D, I heard your distress call. I'm here to help. I recommend that you delete any unwanted text messaging threads. Additionally, you should also delete any 3rd party Messaging applications that have been downloaded from the Android Market. Once you have done this, you will need to power your device off/on. Keep us posted. We're here to help if this issue persists.

Having the same issue here! I just got this phone, and I find it ridiculous that I have to turn off the wifi to get the picture to send. My husband made fun of me because I was "old school" with the physical keyboard on my last phone (Enlighten), but I didn't have to do that to send picture messages over that phone! WIll this be fixed? If not, I'm taking it back before my 14 days are up!

I dont have any problems sending picture messages to anykind of phone over the Verizon network. My phone is set up for Network Global, Data on (3g), Wifi on, latest update installed.

ewalleman, I know it sounds ridiculous. However, I can explain why. Picture & video messages are animated messages and sometimes have sound files attached to them. As a result, the transfer of these files require a data connection from our wireless network. I apologize for this inconvenience and hope that you don't let this minor requirement ruin your wireless experience.

I also recently upgraded from Droid Bionic to Galaxy S4 and I have been unable to send pictures or video via text messaging. Actually, I started noticing a problem with that while I still had my Bionic, which I had for approx 2 years. I had no problem sending text messages that included pictures/video until just recently, like in the past 5 weeks. That was one of the reasons but not the only reason for upgrading my phone.

However, I found that I could not get the MMS messages out w/ the Galaxy S4 either. I have no problems w/ regular text via sms, just mms.

I saw your response to Bill about turning off the WiFi and I tried that and it appears to have worked, so I'm grateful for a workaround; however, there must be something that has changed recently on Verizon's end that is causing this issue. I never had to turn on and turn off WiFi in the past to send out MMS and I'm hopeful that this will not remain a constant inconvenience.

I also just recently switched from a Bionic to a Galaxy S4 and so far haven't encountered the picture message issue. When my wi-fi and cellular data are both turned on, the data connection 'takes over' and picture messages are sent/received.

I've read elsewhere that it sometimes depends on the Verizon network signal strength. In other words, if you're in a stronger signal area, then leaving wi-fi on doesn't interfere with sending/receiving picture messages, but in weaker Verizon signal areas, it does interfere and leaving wi-fi on keeps messages from going through.

I also have this problem. This and finding out that Verizon does not have WIFI calling, I am about to give the phone back and stick with my old phone company. The service isn't much better anyway.

Since you can't receive MMS while connected to Wi-Fi...sounds like a ploy for VZW to force customers to enable network and use data. I am mostly noticing this when trying to receive a MMS in a group thread from AT&T iPhone users. Kind of a shame.

I'm going to have to agree with you here. No only is it an inconvenience and very annoying, but why force your customers to do it when there are much better options. I regret switching to Verizon. At least with my old provider I could send/receive phone calls and MMS via WI-FI. Now I am stuck with Verizon and I can't use my phone at home AT ALL!

I am extremely upset about this.

To improve your home network signal you might consider the VZW Network Extender. I had a very weak signal in my home. The extender is pricey, but I got VZW to give it to me after complaining that I was paying service I wasn't getting.

I understand your frustration and I'm here to help! Having service where you frequent the most is definitely important.

Please keep in mind that when connected to WiFi and you're sending a MMS the phone will connect to the VZW network and send the message.

What happens when you try to send or receive a MMS when connected to WiFi at home? What device do you have? What happens when you try making a call? The WiFi connection should not interfere with your calls.

I don't think sending the MMS over Wi-Fi is the actual problem, for me it is receiving. If a friend of mine on another service (AT&T) is sending a message to the group thread (MMS), I won't receive it until I am off WI-FI and on data.

This seems to be an issue with the Galaxy line of phones. You'll find posts all over the internet from S3/S4 owners having issues sending MMS messages with wifi enabled AND connected. My daughter recently bought an S3 and can't send pics when connected to our wifi at home (yes mobile data is enabled). As soon as wifi is disabled MMS sends. I however can send MMS while connected to the same wifi using my Moto Droid Razr HD. It could be a VZW network signal strength issue as we have a weak signal here. Will have to try in an area with better network coverage while connected to wifi.

I am having this same issue! I was able to send a picture via MMS on Saturday off of my new Galaxy 4, but now that I am at home on my WiFi, I cannot get my pictures to go through!! I don't think this is strictly a Verizon service issue, because I have always been able to send and receive picture messages with my HTC phone, and Verizon service, while connected to my WiFi. Please help!!

Hi Kdcarr7,

Picture memories are important! MMS messages are sent over the Verizon Wireless network even when connected to Wi-fi. Please turn off the Wi-fi to ensure the MMS messages goes through. Hope this helps!

I cannot understand why so many users are having trouble sending MMS messages with WiFi turned on. I've had my S4 for 3 months and have never had this problem. I keep both WiFi and data turned on at home and the messages go through and I receive them. Messges are sent to and received from different carriers and on different phones even iOS.

My data network is set on Global, and my Wifi router is by Belkin, and my data signal strength with VZW is extremely good, always in the -70/-80 db range.

Up until 2 days ago, I never had any problems sending MMS messages with my wifi on. Then, after 8am CDT on 10 September, I could no longer send or receive MMS messages. I kept getting automated texts saying I had to go online to retrieve them. I have double checked that the network is set to LTE, my bill has been paid, mobile data is turned on, wifi was switched off, phone has been restarted (multiple times). Two days later, still can't send MMS messages. I keep getting an error message that the destination is invalid, which is garbage.

Any suggestions?

Yes, the only way I can even get my MMS messages to go out is by turning off my wifi, every single time! I never had to do this with my HTC phone, so I don't really know why I am having to now? This is very frustrating... I'm just wondering what's going to happen when someone else tries to send me an MMS message? Will I not receive it if I am on wifi too?

I have the same issue too and I'm haven't found a clear answer on this thread yet.

When at home and connected to my wi-fi network my galaxy 4 won't send MMS messages. I have to disconnect from the wifi network in order to send the message. One of the comments in this thread said that the phone should know to connect to the network in order to send the message, but my phone doesn't make the transition. Is there an update in the works to remedy this issue, or will I have to continually disconnect the wifi in order to send MMS messages?

I'm having the same issue. Can't send MMS when I'm on WiFi. Turn it off, and the MMS sends without issue. Just wanted to increment the (large) number of people encountering this issue by one...

Here's how I solved my problem,

Settings<WiFi<then push the button(bottom left corner of phone, next to your home button), this will bring up a menu with 5 options<click Advanced<"check for Internet service" needs to be checked

This setting allows for your phone to switch from wifi and 4g automatically as needed. REBOOT THE PHONE.

It wasn't until after I re booted my phone that I was then able to send MMS messages while connected to wifi.

I purchased a Samsung Galaxy Stratosphere I in August 2013. There were no problems sending/receiving texts until about 2 weeks ago. The numbers I text frequently the texts and picture messages go through, no problem. However, when I attempt to text to new numbers, the STOCK message app always fails. What can be the problem?

Hi kimberh - Let's get your text back to normal! Have you recently installed any new apps or updates? Does this happen if the number is entered with a 1, with the area code or just 7 digits? Have you tested the performance with a 3rd party messaging app?

I bought my samsung s4 2 weeks ago as well and to my chagrin, I have noticed the same issue. couldn't download pictures in text messaging, my text messages with pictures would not go through.

i did see the message that said I needed to be connected to the network. Now mind you I had the droid incredible up until 2 weeks ago and never had to turn the network on at all. all my texts with pictures came in and went out.

I don't leave my mobile data turned on unless I need it. in addition wifi will not push them through.

I hate this problem. I hope verizon fixes this, as of now I told my husband not to upgrade to a samsung s4 he's happy to keep his old phone.

It is true that in order to send mms files a data connection has to be initialized. This, however does not use any data. The file will be sent by mobile data but only your texting account will be charged.

I have my S4 set up by having mobile data and wifi on all the time. The phone switches back and forth depending on need. By far, most of the phones online activity is done by wifi.

My monthly data usage is usually less than 1/2 gb. and I send mms files all the time and don't think twice how it's sent, because I know there is no data used in doing so. As long as I am connected to wifi the phone will use wifi first.

Aha! I think I got it.

My wife and I have the S3. My wife was having the issue but I wasn't. Here's what I found that fixed hers:

Go to SETTINGS

Then DATA USAGE

Then check the box MOBILE DATA

It solved the issue for my wife so I hope this helps anyone else with this issue.

I had this same problem. You have to have your mobile data turned on. It will not download using wi-fi. Hope this helps.

Verizon I need help...I have a Samsung Galaxy 4

My MMS will go through no problem to any phone on Verizon network, but if I try to send to a Samsung Galaxy on AT&T it is hit or miss. They will get a "under construction" Icon instead. I can send it as a group message and the two verizon users will get the picture but the At&t one will not.

I have searched and tried everything listed. Changed mobile network setting, I did a hard reset and a soft reset, I took out battery and sim card, I turned on and off wifi, etc

Have you considered the problem might be on the other person's phone?

When I had my iphone 4s with verizon, I did not have this problem it only started when I switched to the samsung galaxy s4
