Smartphone newbie...no 4G or 3G at home?

I'm wondering if there is anything I can do about having no 4G or 3G when I am at home. I visited a VZ store and left with the impression that its a result of location, even though I live in the Phoenix metro area and have 4G when I am five minutes down the road. According to the coverage map I looked at, I should have access. Am I just out of luck?

I supposed I should clarify that I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S4.

I assume that your phone works with 4g/3g away from your home, since you visited a Verizon store and asked about it. Did your previous phone work with data while at home?

Is there anykind of a data icon on the status bar when data is turned on?

Do phone calls work from home?

Have you tried reinstalling the SIM card and rebooting the phone?

Let's look into this! What is your current zip code? As Klue mentioned, have you received service in your home with your previous VZW device? If so, when did the problem begin?

Wireless devices use radio transmissions, so unfortunately you can't get Service if your device isn't in range of a transmission signal. And please be aware that even within your Coverage Area, many things can affect the availability and quality of your Service, including network capacity, your device, terrain, buildings, foliage and weather.

My zip code is 85296. I've not had a smartphone prior to this one; my previous phone was an LG Chocolate and I did not use internet with that phone. I have no trouble making or receiving phone calls with my new Galaxy S4. I have had great difficulty with web access until today...I googled "best wireless router Samsung galaxy s4". Based on what I came across in that search, we changed the Cipher Type on the router from AES to TKIP. I've had no further issues with wireless connectivity at home. I still have no 4G or 3G at home, but with the wifi working web access is no longer a problem at home. I realize this will not improve web access away from our router, though.

Well from the ZIP that you gave: The ( Warner Green Field Square Area ) the Signal doesn't look too bad have you tried your using your phone in some area's close to your Zip like around Desert Hill High School i see a Higher concentrate of Signal there or Around S. Higley RD and the SanTan Freeway there is a higher concentrate of Signal there) those two locations are close to the Zip you Gave and you can see these Signals as Well.. By going to Sensorly.com when you get there select your Carrier which it would be Verizon LTE and then enter your ZIP or your Street Location and the Map will show you were the LTE is..

The Signal Information you see was given by other customers that have the Sensorly app on there smartphones and that live or Travel in the Area.. You can also download the map from the playstore..

To Add: Looking on the Verizon map Pulling in close to street level then pushing back out the LTE looks to be solid and there's allot of Verizon stores in the Area, So were the Stores locations are there Towers should be close by..

I had to laugh..."Around S. Higley RD and the SanTan Freeway there is a higher concentrate of Signal there"...I can see the SanTan from where I am sitting now; we live yards away from the intersection of S. Higley and the SanTan. This is why I don't think it is the availability of service, but rather the ability of my phone. Yet the VZ employee at the store just said I shouldn't have Avast on my phone and any downloaded app was not VZ['s responsibility. I went in there knowing that what I download is my problem, not VZ's. I just wanted to understand if the lack of 4G/3G is related to my phone (and not VZ coverage of the area), and if it is, what can be done to address that....sigh.

The improved wifi has continued from yesterday's change to our router settings but there is still no 4G/3G.
