I just upgraded to the S4 mini today. The only smiley options I can find are the horrible Droid icon things. Someone else told me I had to download an application which I did. But how do I get them to show up in the smiley option list while texting?
What is the app? I would like to figure this out too.
I downloaded two. Smiley Central & Chat Smiley. Chat Smiley I was able to put into messaging if I inserted it like I would a picture. But then it turns it into an MMS.
there are a number of alternative keyboards in the google play store. some of them may include their own emojis/emoticons.....that don't show up as the android ones. many of the keyboards are free. you download them and replace your keyboard with whatever you'd like to try out. search "keyboards" in the play store.
I think the Droid images (which certainly are grotesque) are a matter of display: the stock Messaging app on the S4 (and probably other Android phones too) converts standard keyboard smiley symbols into those images for display, just as some e-mail programs or Websites (e.g., this one :smileyhappy: ) will display faces when you type a smiley sequence. IOW, the person you're texting is not going to see the Droid image unless their own phone is an Android and displays it. You, however, are stuck looking at it, although you might be able to use a different e-mail app altogether and get different looking smilies.
You're right. My friends just see the smiley sequence. They do not see the green dude nor :smileyhappy:. At least not as annoying for them...lol. I have looked at other messaging apps and keyboards. That may be the way I go. So stupid for them to use the Droid guy.
I never thought of them as being a part of the keyboard app, I was thinking they were part of the texting app.
Thank You
