After 4.1.2 update bad issues with gs3

I was prompted to run the new 4.1.2 update and did so. All seemed to work ok at first until I tired to load a picture into a text message. The phone would keep locking up and forcing me to restart my device. Upon further review, my gallery tab has completely changed once clicked (which is ok, no big deal) but it no longer works. Every single time i try to load up my gallery tab, my phone freezes and shuts down. I thought i had gotten a virus so i changed every password i could while i did a hard/full reset on my phone. I went thru the initial start up just as if i had boughten the phone new again and guess what, same problems but only worse. I took the micro sd card out of my phone and plugged it into my desk top and it force closes every single time and it keeps telling me that my micro sd card is corrupt now. I am absolutely furious that this is going on, I have a 9-month old child and take a ton of pictures, all of which are gone now. All of my music too. So as it appears right now, not only is my phone so glitchy now that it is all but unusable (no longer holds phone calls for more then 30seconds or WIFI connection is toast on the phone as well and the phone gets SUPER hot). My wife has an Iphone4 and she never drops a call or wifi and our phones can be side by side. I have lived in my current house over a year and never had issues until my phone updated 2 nights ago. So now i have a ruined 32gb micro sd card, and a phone that is basically a paper weight (not a good one either, may burn my house down as hot as it gets) Battery life is down to about 4hours max because the phone has SO many perment apps that it will not let me shut off. I really need help with this 4.1.2 update before my wife and I leave verizon. Have had a great phone until this update, now its junk, it has wiped out a lot of memories from my 9month old that i will never get back. someone please help me, for the sake of everyone, you dont want my wife and i to show up to the store this livid that our $700 phone is now useless.

I want you to have an operable device as well rpmartin162! Let's get this resolved. Please navigate to Settings>About Phone> and ensure you have the most recent Build Number JZ054K.I535VRBMF1. If not, please scroll up and select Software Update>Check New. Upon installing the most recent update please test and share. Thank you for trying to help me out. I am not too familiar with your site and or how to send you a private message. I do apologize for this, however, my phone is up to date, it has the JZ054K.1535VRBMF1. I will continue to try to figure out how to send you a direct email but again, I may need your help by sending me one first so I can see it pop up somewhere? If not, i know we can figure it out. My phone is continuing to freeze every time I try to open my "gallery", the back of the phone is getting EXTREMELY hot to touch (way hotter then usual), I can not receive many of my phone calls or send calls out anymore, my text messaging rejects and kicks back at least 10% of the messages I try to send, it has become a big mess. Also, the internet browser on the phone will just automatically stop and send me back to the home screen, my hand wont even be required to be on the phone for it to happen. My phone is a "refurbished" phone that I got thru the BestBuy protection plan. The phone worked "ok" until the update, thats when all heck broke loose.

Thanks for the details. I want to take deep dive into this situation and figure out the root cause for your problems. Have you tried completing a master reset? After an update, it sometimes becomes necessary. While this can be a time consuming step, it's very effective. Select the link for the instructions...

Doing the master reset has helped my phone out a bunch. It appears to be working properly at this time. I did however have to erase and reformat my microsd card which means I lost all of my photos and vids. My backup assistant says it is running and updateing but it however hasnt backed up a pic or vid since christmas (I can tell by the photos and remember when taken). None of my newer photos (since Christmas 2012 until now) were backed up. Nothing I can do about it now, they are gone which sucks, I have my first child (10 months old now) whose photos are all gone. That hurts pretty badly when my phone was working just fine (the update ran over night in my sleep). I woke up to see that my phone had updated, I was excited until I tried to use my gallery and realized my card was corrupted. I took the card out of my phone, plugged it into my computer and my computer even froze trying to load the pictures on it (my computer is/was brand new in march so its not like its an old clunker). The only issue I am still seeming to have is the fact that my phone is still getting really hot. It is not as hot as it was before the master reset but it is still hotter then it was prior to 6/30/13 when the update first ran. It seems like there is a process or feature that is always on that is making it over heat.

I would sincerely love it if you could explain this to me as well. I have performed a hard reset (and lost information and photos along the way) and my phone STILL continually reboots, freezes, freezes and drops calls, reboots, and keeps attempting to Backup everything on my phone (and failing, I might add).

I am about beyond livid at this point. I have lost information on my phone and have been told that the only way it can be fixed is if I get a refurbished phone. I know people with the same problems that got 3+ phones and all of them were bricked, just like mine. Ever since the update.

If I can't get this resolved, I'll wipe this phone, resell it on Craig's List, give it to a new SD card and by a GS4 from someone else. We've been loyal customers for over 10 years and I've had it with refurbished phones that STILL DON'T WORK (had this problem with my Droid too, which is why I bought the new phone right before the GS4 even came out!).

Please make it work. I don't want to do the work of switching to AT&T.

Rpmartin, I can understand how upsetting that would be to lose all of your pictures. I keep a lot of pictures on my phone as well. I'm glad the master reset has helped. For the overheating, check which applications are running in Settings, Apps, Running tab. Close out the ones you don't need. Make sure to remove any task killers or antivirus apps as those will run in the background.
