My Droid is posessed

:smileymad: Well, my Droid finally lost it. The screen is going nuts, jerking all over the place, not responding to touches, running apps just sitting there without me touching the screen. Sigh.

I've tried turning it off (that's a treat, while the thing is going berserk, and I'm trying to touch the right places to shutdown), tried pulling the battery all multiple times.

I hesitate to say it, but I *think*, *maybe*, it had to do with Xscope browser. I hesitate because I can't be sure, but that is the last app I installed before all heck broke loose. After repeated attempts, I finally got it uninstalled, but the problem persists. It may be a coincidence, or Xscope *may* have corrupted something that now requires more than turning off and back on to fix.

I'm trying to find out if I can do some sort of reset that won't screw things up worse. Suppose I'll have to call Verizon and see what they say.

Sigh...

Seriously, I tried the rest, tried pretty much everything except the hammer treatment. Boy, after almost 2 months of having things go so well, it's extremely frustrating to not have my Droid 'just work' when I pick it up.

Oh well, such is life. Mike, I even tried cleaning the screen about 10 times very thoroughly. Now that's funny - hope springs eternal I guess. Who knows, it could have been some nanobots that escaped from Fermilab and infected my screen :smileytongue:

Unfortunately, nothing helps, so I have a new one on the way. Won't get it until Wednesday, since it's the weekend. My local store has none in stock, at least none that are for replacement.

On the fun side, I had the Verizon tech at #611 peeing her pants as I was describing my 'possessed' Droid. I think at least I made her day. I think she was so happy to get a customer who wasn't screaming at her she would have hand delivered the thing if I had asked. I'm still smiling thinking about the conversation. :smileyhappy:

What you are experiencing sounds just like the first Droid I got. I only had it a couple of hours on the morning of 11/6 and the screen went berserk, just as you are describing. Selecting icons with no screen press, glitching, scrolling, etc. I immediately returned mine to the store and exchanged it. When I did, the tech confessed to me that it had acted a little strange when they were setting it up and activating it. Anyway, we all agreed that this particular phone had a defective touch screen. I think you may be looking at a warranty replacement.

BTW: I replied to this with the XScope browser, so if your right about it causing your problem, I may be next.

After hearing of your first Droid, I think I'll be visiting the Verizon store this morning. We'll see what they say. My local store has always been good about repairs/returns.

I tried removing the SD card, leaving the phone off for 20 minutes, rebooting numerous time. It is a little better than it was a couple hours ago, but there is for sure something wrong, whether it's hardware or software. I think back on a few times when the screen 'jumped' for want of a better word in the past, but I always attributed it to my clumsy fingers. That was nothing compared to what it is doing now, though. Possibly it was a prelude to this, though. I definately don't want to badmouth Xscope, it's just that like I said, that was the last app I installed just a couple hours before things went south.

Not looking forward to losing all the work i put into getitng this setup the way I like it, but if a new one is in the cards, so be it.

I tried the reset found on the 'privacy' page, but that one doesn't do much other than delete all apps and data. If there is a more extensive one, I'll have to look for it.

(Unless some nice soul can point out if there is one and where I might find info on it) :smileywink:

I have two Eris's, but I've only had this problem with one of them. I noticed it first when I would plug in the charger it would start flipping through the homescreens, but only to the left. When the charger was disconnected it would return to normal so I thought that maybe it was a software issue. Well, I wiped my phone out and reinstalled the O.S using the RUU (ROM update utility) on my P.C. Booted my Eris back up and it started flipping through the homescreens instantly. So I started thinking maybe it was a hardware defect so I started inspecting the phone. The first place I chose to check was the charging port, since it did it while being on charge. Well I took my pinky finger with the charger disconnected pushed in on the port and wiggled it around and just as I suspected the screens started flipping. I made a dash for the door and made a B line for Verizon. I showed the Rep what was going on and with no hesitation she ordered a replacement. So far I hav'nt had any problems with this one, but I've only had it a week and it took about a month before the other one started. Now I'm reading a lot of posts about other people with the same issue. It's really making me think that a lot of these phones have a major design flaw and eventually all or most will suffer from this and we will be stuck with a nice looking [edit].{word filter avoidance}

and I have the same issue.. it didn't happen as much but now it is like a daily thing. Then end result was I slapped my phone.... mmm it fixed it for a bit lol.. but eventually i broke the screen cause of this glitch... I tried asking at a store before I smashed it in a fit of rage. They didnt know anything about it... well now my screen is broken parts of the screen doesn't work and I still have the glitch.. well hope my next phone isn't crap..
