Receintly I have started receiving spam text messages from "77893" but the spam controls require a full 10 digits to block texts. Since I don't have (or need) a text plan these messages cost me. How do I go about getting these blocked? FWIW apparently a lot of people get these because there is already a txtlawsuit.com website collecting info for a potential class action. I have also filed a FCC form 1088 (https://esupport.fcc.gov/form1088/1088gform.do) as well.

You didn't specify if you NEVER use texting, just that you didn't need a plan. If you don't text at all, you can call Customer Service and block all texts. Verizon notifications will still come through, but are not charged.
Some phones also give you the option (Phone Settings>>Security) to block calls, or messages, or limit them to contacts only. Not all phones can do this though.
Send a message to the number with the word "STOP" This will unsubscribe you for the service.
If you'd like to keep your texting options open you can add a premium text block to the account. That will stop all messages that come from 5-6 digit numbers.
I'd also call Verizon and ask to see if you were enrolled in a billable premium text message. Some premium messages will charge you a monthly fee or a per message charge. And depending on how many message you recieved from this number it may benefit to add a text package for one month or even just a prorated time frame. The smallest package is $5/month for 250 messages. That equals out to about $.17/day for 8 messages/day. If it's being going on for 2 days you can pay $.34 for 16 messages instead of the standard $.20/message(16 messages would be $3.20)

This can sometimes work. However in other cases I have read that when replying to stop it just sends more spam messages.
