How to check for dirt or dead pixels before activation?

Either Monday or Tuesday, I will be picking up a replacement Droid (first was returned due to three blemishes on the case that my OCD just wouldn't let go).

Now, I was told that I would only be able to get one more replacement---I wouldn't be able to return/exchange a Droid for the third time. It is thus crucial that I walk out next week with a dustless and dead-pixel-free Droid.

Problem is that I have no clue how to get a pure white (and black) screen so I can check for such problems, as I'm not even sure what is available on the phone before it is set up/activated.

Any ideas?

i would think that you should be able to turn on the device as they are activating the phone. give it the look over. and possibly change it out since you are there.

i do know they have to activate the phone under your name before they can turn it on. that is what the best buy rep told me before i could check the camera's green lines.

if they say no, refuse the phone, activate your old one, go to another store, like best buy, and reactivate a new droid. but make sure you don't lose your NE2 first.

Hmm, that sounds like a problem---I get the impression that when they said I could only get one more new phone, they meant that I could only activate one more Droid (assuming that the system will lock you out permanently if you try to activate the same type of phone more than twice). If I can only check the screen after the phone is activated, then there's nothing I can do but hope I'm lucky.

Also, why would I lose my NE2?

i always look at the worst case senario. and if you used your NE2 for the droid but return it, who knows....i have yet to get an NE2 but like i said worst case senario. look before you leap, count your eggs yada yada yada

when i exchanged my phone, i asked if i could look at it while the best buy rep was finishing the paperwork so that would be a good time to look for problems, point it out, and hopefully your rep will be courteous enough the try another phone.

I'm going to go and agree with Willanya here. Check the phone during activation and see if it meets your standards, if not ask for an exchange.

It's what I would have done.
