My SII keyboard somehow switched from text swyping to having to "writing". checked all settings & can't find what changed

Picked up the phone to text and all of a sudden the only way to get a message off was with "writing" it (with my finger)in the small block space it provided. Checked all the settings and could not figure out what had changed. I can get the Samsung swype keyboard back but that is not the one I was using (although I don't know which one I had been using?). There is an option for the emoji keyboard but when I go to select it I get a message that all my text is being collected AND it brings me back to the "writing" problem...ugh. Can anyone help.

Help is here dzimm02! I want to ensure I understand everything that needs to be resolved. Have you successfully returned back to the keyboard from the handwriting option? If not, please tap the icon of the keyboard on the right of the 123 Sym button. Selecting the writing option (The icon that has a capital "T" and a pencil on it to the left of the space bar) will enable the handwriting option. If you want to remove this option from the keyboard you can then select the Settings icon from the main screen applications>Language and Input>Select Swype keyboard as the default OR you can choose the Samsun Keyboard as the default and check Google Voice typing.
