Verizon CSRs - do you guys have any updates or dates for OTA updates for Samsung Galaxy SIII to JB 4.3? All other carriers - big and small seem to have gotten it already.
Careful what you wish for, you just might get it. Cruise over to Android Central and read all the problems the S3 folks are having after downloading 4.3. I believe this update has been pulled for the S4 because of so many issues.
Heck, just read all the issues reported on this forum about the S4 with the 4.3 update!
Very true tikibar1, as I am a S4 user myself (still on 4.2.2) however the point is driven home a little harder when they get to read about their own phone, since Verizion doesn't have it here yet.
That's true; and I agree ... be careful what you wish for!
I really don't care about any of the "issues" people claim are happening. I want my 4.3 update and I want it now. I mean it's bad enough that we got screwed over with not getting 4.2. I want to be able to print to my network printers, I want the updated interface and all the goodies that come with it. Verizon should allow the customers who want the update to download it. I mean hell, if 4.3 is so "bad", Just give us 4.4 KitKat and make us S3 users happy.
Hi krissh,I can see interest your getting a software update on the Galaxy S3 device. Here's a link to the latest software update available http://tiny.cc/2q256w. To check on any further alerts on a software update, visit here http://bit.ly/n5snpq. Thanks,EdW_VZWFollow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
Kule and Tikibar1 , I see that AT & T has resumed deploying the updates soon after. I spoke with a CSR on Verizon yesterday and they confirmed that Samsung has asked them to hold on to the update while they work the kinks out. And then Verizon is going to add their code / features and do their own testing. From the sound of it, I don't think we will see a 4.3 update before EOY at the earliest.
Hi Paul Martocci,Software updates make the device better, so I can certainly understand your excitement! Verizon Wireless and Samsung are working extremely hard to ensure you receive the best device experience. While we do not have any information on the 4.3 update, you check for the latest software releases here http://vz.to/1aW6wgh.Thanks,PamelaF_VZWTweet us @vzwsupport
You guys must have been stars in the "Active Listening" class. No information, just sympathy.
Great job, nice use of the script you were given.
Come on, give the Reps a break. Most are just as clueless about updates as we are (maybe more so since we probably surf more and hear more rumors). All they have and are permitted to use are their "scripts". I'm (removed) at Verizon too for all the bloatware and feature removal from our phones, but no way will I take that frustration out on the Reps. It's not their fault and there's nothing they can do about it.

why don't you quit whining & be thankful Verizon is holding off on distributing 4.3 until the bugs other services have been having can be ironed out.
@bearone21 Be thankful for what? It's not like Verizon (or any other carrier for that matter) is doing this for free. The service contract requires them to push these updates in a timely manner as legally required.
I am glad Verizon doing the due diligence to check everything is fine before launching the update. But that doesn't give them the concession of doing it 2-3 months after everyone else has done it. If you care so much about the quality, why not push - Samsung/Google to give the SDKs sooner and get enough time to add/test Verizon's own code. Being as big as Verizon is, I am certain they have that bargaining power.
Forget about S3, Galaxy Nexus still hasn't received 4.3 updates after Google published the factory images in May 2013. For a phone that boasts a true android experience, I am not sure what Verizon is working on testing it for 6 months now. Care to explain?
I too would like to know something, from an official source of the Verizon. We read all the other reports of the other carriers releasing the 4.3 update. I understand there are problems with the 4.3 and the equipment. I got that. The point is no one at Verizon is making any official statements and that is frustrating. We pay a lot more for our service than some or most carriers and we expect service in return; service could be reception, data, or simple information in return. If we paid them for their service as poorly as they give us customer support in return, they would be griping as well. So Verizon, step up, make a statement, do your part and your JOB, and give us the information we need, whether it is saying we are getting screwed on an S3 update and waiting for now the 4.4 or whatever. JUST GIVE US INFORMATION!!!!!!!!!
I am also interested, if nothing else, at least 4.2. There is a company called Salesforce.com we use for work and last week they released a new mobile app that is fantastic. The only issue - it's only compatible for Android OS 4.2 and better. Really stinks that I can't use this awesome app because the lack of OS update. Never considered switching to an Apple device until I have learned how Android updates their OS systems based on the individual carrier of the service.
While I appreciate that Verizon is trying to push out a stable OS upgrade, I am still very frustrated in how the upgrades are handled across the board. This is a problem with Android phones in general as there are so many brands of phones to deal with for which there is no simple solution. I would like for Verizon to at least keep its customers informed regarding the status and expected release of updates at the very least. If only it were possible for Google to push upgrades without the added confusion provided by phone manufacturers and service providers. Wishful thinking!
The only thing Verizon does quickly is take your money for their service. A simple news posting of where they are with giving the S3 the 4.3 we all deserve would be nice, but as you say, wishful thinking!
They'll never give expected dates. Software is hard to predict when you are talking millions of lines of code. Even Google themselves don't give an ETA on their Nexus devices. The best you'll get from them is "within the next few months"
yeah & if they gave a date & didn't deliver the goods you'd still be complaining.
i'd rather have verizon do their soak test with a few individuals & iron out the wrinkles, than go thru the issues that have been problematic with the other phone services, that had so many issues that samsung recalled the update & now will have to generate a patch, like microsoft.
in early '11, they did a soak test before gingerbread was put out for the masses on the droid x & still had some problems.
my upgrade was perfect & it killed my son's dx.
read a few of the problem posts on the s4 forum about 4.3.
Dude, seriously not cool. Yes we're frustrated by the slow pace Verizon is taking on getting the software update rolled out, but there's no point in attacking the forum staff.
Not really whining, just complaining, and from what I've been hearing across the web, Verizon may just bail out on 4.3 and go right to 4.4 KitKat..
This website has some interesting information.
And that's why I have an iPhone as well, because of this mess Google created. It's admitted that Android is widely fragmented across multiple flavors and multiple devices, as evidenced here and Google wants to fix it with KitKat for a more consistent experience across the board on all devices. .
iOS is fragmented itself, but is nicely hidden by Apple. I won't go into detail about, but by definition of fragmentation iOS is fragmented even if you version numbers are the same across their devices.
Anyway. The problem with updates people only assume carriers have complete control. They do not. It all starts with the manufacturers. If parts manufacturers don't update their drivers and firmware you can't get updates from device manufacturers or they have to use an older version of drivers/firmware which often yield fragmenting results like features being removed. Carriers only test the updates and put nothing in. Carriers don't put in their bloat. It is given the manufacturers in ADVANCE. Every leaked software ever leaked for Android always has it installed and the source of these leaks are from... manufacturer employees. That's a dead ringer to me.
Even the PC market is fragmented. I find it amazing that people fall for the marketing.
I am seeing posts in here on rumors that I have seen on other sites as well. The rumor is that due to the 4.3 issues seen on other carriers for the Samsung S3, that Verizon is now skipping over the 4.3 and going to the 4.4 update. While I know everyone that spreads this rumor has their "sources" I find this highly unlikely to happen. The S3 has already been screwed by skipping over the 4.2 update and other carriers are getting the 4.3 for this phone. If this is the outcome, then I can expect that the 4.1.2 will be the last update the S3 will get as those with this phone are being forced to upgrade to another phone or another carrier.
I feel Verizon is starting to lose a lot of its customers as they neglect to inform them on why there has not been an update release while the other carriers are releasing the update with minimal issues, if any, in the US. Verizon needs to step up and give some information to their customers before this update is delayed further. Silence is a big demotivator, as in the faith and trust we have in this carrier.
other than the tightened security issues & knox, what else are you expecting in 4.3.
Well one possibility is that they have no intention of pushing out the 4.3 update and that is why they are being silent. In fact that is my best guess.
Well there's a flaw in your theory. There's only been twice in history a device never got an OS version bump when the manufacturer said it will be updated.
1. Samsung Behold 2. However this one was a bit odd. Samsung never said it "will", but it said it "could".
2. HTC One S. HTC said it would, but the parts manufacturer dropped support for their processor(Qualcomm) in one of the variants. So HTC recanted and chose to not update any of them.
Samsung said it the S3 will be updated to 4.3. So it will be updated.
You know what I find funny? People on T-Mobile were complaining about the same thing using the exact same words, but the S3 was updated before the S4. They are doing roll outs, but they are not going to overlap with other carriers. See Apple servers when a new iPhone and iOS update happens at the same time. Apple customers are not happy.
Still patiently waiting for the update. Any news??
There is a report that the UK version of the 4.3 update has been issued a patch. It's funny that in the amount of time that the UK version not only received the 4.3 update and reported problems and is receiving a patch, that Verizon has yet to release the 4.3 update to the Galaxy S3...

what's going to be better in 4.3 that you just can't live without?

@VZW Got word from tier 2 tech that the 4.3 update is in final stages of testing... any idea of when it should release?
Is there any new news?
It's more about how you handle things. It's laughable if you tell me that Verizon cannot get Samsung to get the source code earlier than 6 months from original PDK launch.
If you think about it, what do you need more than a 4.0 device for a smartphone experience? Why do you buy new phones every two years? I'm not trying to be a prick, but when T-Mobile and AT & T can deliver their software - mind you with no glitches now - why can't Verizon?
I understand not delivering 4.2 - too much churn. But if you can't deliver one software update in 6 months - what does that say about Verizon? Can Verizon do the same thing to iOS customers?
By entering a contract I would expect Verizon to give me the best experience (besides the subsidized phone). Verizon is not giving away the phone nor or they doing a favor by giving software updates. They recover all that cost and more through your contract period (or with termination fee).
Vzw claims to "never stop working for you" looks like they dropped the ball here... they definately stopped working for us. They should atleast give an update to the OTA
Has anyone seen a new timeline that includes when we will start to receive the 4.3 update? Does anyone have any new inside information? I have been checking regularly on the update but there is nothing popping up saying it has any type of update. Verizon is being tight lipped so I am thinking they have not figured out anything or what they are going to do.
This week will mark over a year since the last update came out for the Samsung Galaxy S III on 12/14/12.

Even a generic acknowledgement of status from Verizon like "..Please be patient while we..." would be nice.
They did do that in other threads... It's kind of getting old when you see the same posts, followed by the same reply. It'll get here when Verizon is comfortable getting blamed for things that go wrong.

I blame Samsung more than Verizon. I'm not one to want an update just to get a version number increase, but to fix issues with the current version. Either Samsung did not believe all the problems that owners were having with their GS3 or they didn't care or they were unable to fix/address the issues or they were too focused on their many, many new products to care. Take your pick. Although Verizon is not without some blame; they could have leaned on Samsung for fixes. For a flagship device in its heyday the GS3 was pretty well abandoned for a year. I received my GS3 on July 9, 2012 and signal reception in marginal areas (making, receiving, and holding calls) has been my biggest issue. The Motorolas in my family had no problems in the same locations. This was my first experiment with Samsung and will be my last for a long time. My wife's Moto-X gets here tomorrow and I'll inherit her Razr HD. The GS3 will be put into mothballs and relegated to a backup phone.
I disagree that Samsung is more to blame than Verizon because the other major carriers already have their updates.
Additionally, I have not seen any statement from Verizon that really addresses the delay, other than the generic "updates are exciting message" but that is not about this issue, specifically.
And lastly, yes, I agree that due to this debacle, When my contract expires I will be definitely be abandoning Samsung. Possibly abandoning the entire Android platform unless it is a vanilla edition straight from Google, and moving to the Apple platform. Lastly maybe even Verizon service, although all the major carriers are all equally terrible. But it is really unacceptable why Verizon would not comment directly on THIS update since as previously mentioned it is all over the threads.
Did they specifically say they were working on 4.3 or 4.4 and apologies for the delay, or just that in general "Software updates make the device better..."?
ca_randy wrote:I disagree that Samsung is more to blame than Verizon because the other major carriers already have their updates.
I apologize for not making my comments clear. I was referring to the year long drought when Samsumg ignored all the problems of the GS3 and did nothing to fix them, even denying them. Not the relatively short time between other carriers releaseing 4.3 and when Verizon will release it.

"However, please feel free to register for alerts on new products and services by clicking ......" Translation, forget getting an update. Instead let us gouge you price wise and force you into a newer phone and another 2 yr contract just so you can get the features you would have gotten had we updated like we should have.
Honestly... Gear not working with 4.2 and lower is on Samsung. Think about... Sony, TI, and more than a handful of smart watch makers work on ANY device 2.3 and higher...
It's here - downloading in Orange County, CA
Thank you Verizon for finally getting us the update. Just a suggestion, Verizon, you may want to revise the pages you have been telling everyone to check. At least let them know the update is in the process of being distributed because the pages that you have been linking to are out-of-date and show nothing about the update that I have already installed on my phone.

Yes Ann, that may be true. However, that was not the page customer service was linking to check for updates in most replies.
4.3 is terrible, I wish I could go back to 4.2
