Most USB cables no longer charge phone after upgrade to 4.4.2?

Upgraded to 4.4.2 last night on my Samsung SIII (SCH-I535_NC1 to NE1) Now MOST of my USB chargers no longer register as being able to charge my phone. Luckily I located 1 that does, but most that worked yesterday no longer work. They show angry red X in the Battery icon. This is not a good enhancement!

matyasim lets get you charged up! Are you experiencing difficulty with the manufacturer's USB or solely 3rd party equipment?

Same thing here. I have 4 wall warts with various cables (manufacturer/Verizon approved and otherwise) and I've found one combination that works without the angry red X.

Car charging is absolutely impossible. I have another 3 car chargers of various amperage with another handful of cables, and nothing works. Red X is there letting me know I'm an idiot for wanting to charge my battery while driving. It's fun when I'm trying to use my phone as GPS while watching the battery die. It's a race to get to my destination in time!

I also have 2 batteries. It doesn't matter.

Keep it up Verizon. You're the slowest to update with releases, and your releases are consistently broken. The prior main GSIII release had the fun issue where it wouldn't bother with 4g service on a lot of phones until a patch was put out. Remember that? I do.

I wonder if there is some app people have in common that have this red X problem? I updated last Sunday and never had the X. The stock charger works fine. I tried a car charger and even the USB port directly on the car and no X. I pulled out my wife's old LG charger for her old basic phone and it still charges fine. Just wondering why some have the problem and others don't. Usually I am the one with problems, but still sorry others have this. I did see on another forum that people who have the X are actually seeing the chargers work, just at a slower rate.

It may very well be an app issue. The only way I could figure how to troubleshoot would be to factory reset the phone and re-install every single app one by one while sitting by a wall outlet or in my car and test charging/not charging states to test what the culprit would be. I don't have that type of dedication.

---Update on not charging issue - it appears that the phone does charge with a red X through the battery icon, only very slow. When USB cord is plugged in, the charging chime lags ~15-30 seconds behind when the X shows up as well. After removing power, it takes another ~15-30 seconds for the phone to recognize the changed power state. While "charging" with the red X battery icon, going into settings-battery , it does in fact list as charging on that screen.

How do I view if I'm actually charging? My locked screen and LED indicators both act as if it's not unless I use the cable that came with my phone. The x appears, but I would like to stay charged on road trips and at work where I have my spare travel cable if I know it will work. Just updated this morning and found this thread.
