How do I transfer photographs from my old LG VN271 phone to my computer?

I recently upgraded from my LG VN271 phone to an iPhone 5c and the sales rep told me I could transfer my photos to my computer.  I have just spent 2 hours trying to find a way and still no solution!  It is amazing how Verizon is quick to sell me a phone but short or not around when I need help.

When you connect the phone to your computer with the phone's USB cable, are you encoutering an error?
