Faulty charging port cover on the S5

I've had my Galaxy S5 for about 2 months now...I am not at all rough on the phone. It does require a charge at least once a day, so that's about how often I open the charging port cover.

Well, the cover has since broken off and, based on a few internet searches, it looks like this is a pretty widespread problem with this phone. Is this a part/repair that can be done at a local Verizon store? Is there a plan in place to address what is quite obviously a device flaw?

I've got the same problem with one of mine too.

There are a number of anecdotal claims online about samsung sending s5 users new charging flaps in response to their complaints. Likewise a rep at a Verizon store today told me to call Samsung and they would send me a replacement. So there seems to be some indication that a few months ago Samsung was reacting in a customer friendly way to the problem with their flaky flaps.

However, i just got off the phone with samsung and they currently want s5 owners to send their phone to Texas for 9 to 11 days for a 5 dollar, 10 minute repair. (I got those numbers from ebay and youtube, btw.) To me that's a pretty clear example of gatekeeping.

I'm inclined to go back to verizon store and see what my insurance policy gets me. With my rezound, with insurance, i was able to get two free replacements due to problems that were similar to this. Replacements that did not trigger my insurance deductible or replacement limit.

If that doesnt work then i may go the ebay/youtube route.

Either way, I'm still quite happy with the phone. Yes it's a poorly implemented design, but at least it's not affecting the functionality of the phone.
