Problems Switching from iPhone to Samsung Galaxy S4

I switched from an iPhone to a Samsung. Why do people with iPhones continue to have problems texting me. They tried deleting my iMessage streams and re-entered my phone as a mobile. They still get error messages. It's been a week since I got the Samsung.

By the way, I have deactivated my iphone number on the Apple ID website.

Well hopefully people with this issue will read to the very end. Here is step by step what I did and thanks to "devondeal" before me:

1. Went to Verizon Wireless to get new phone

2. Turned off iMessage on the old iPhone

3. Disassociated my old iPhone from my account online at this link: https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do

4. Removed my iPhone from the iTunes Store. (Go to iTunes-->iTunes store--->Account (left hand side)--->Manage Devices--->Remove the phone)

5. Called Apple (1-800-694-7466) and had them remove/disassociate my phone number from the old iPhone. They told me it would take up to 24 hours.

6. ON THE NEW PHONE, texted "Stop" to 48369 and received a message that I was unsubscribed and would no longer receive messages.

7. Texted my girlfriend to send me a test message and VOILA, it worked within minutes of talking with Apple.

I know its alot but I hope this helps everyone. Thanks again devondeal

I'm having the same issues. I'm seriously considering switching to a different carrier and changing my number. This is getting so ridiculous. All I want is to get text messages. I shouldn't have to contact everyone I might know with an iphone and tell them to turn off iMessage....seriously frustrating

My wife has done all of these steps, including calling apple and having them remove her number from iMessage.... she did all this a week ago, she is still no receiving some txts from some iPhone users.

I hear you and we don't want to lose you! We want to get those messages flowing ASAP! All you have to do is access your old iPhone and turn off iMessages. If you don't have access to the old phone, simply follow the steps provided by WiltonA_VZW and you will be all set.

Unfortunately I have turned off iMessage from my iPhone and have called in to deregister. It's been almost 24 hours and it's still not working correctly. The HUGE issue is that I've basically been told "it will eventually start working". Well, I didnt pay you have the money and tell you I'd send the rest when it started working. You are a huge company dealing with another huge company. I PAID THE MONEY AND YOU TOOK IT BUT THE PHONE IS NOT WORKING THE WAY IT IS SUPPOSED TO. If you cant make a device work, you should not be selling them with the assumption that you can use it when you pay right then. There are so many forums and threads about this problem but yet nobody mentioned it at the verizon store. I will not be a customer by this evening is this doesn't resolve. This is piss poor business and terrible communication about switching devices. The largest network is doing a great job of pushing me back to AT&T. Rediculous!!

To IHT and all others,

This is not a Verizon issue. All carriers are experiencing this. I switched from iPhone to Moto X and I have had to ask my iPhone friends to switch off iMessage.(as well as me switching it off in my old iPhone) Works fine. Some of them tell me that their texting is now faster!! I also went to Apple customer service and had them de-register my number for my iPhone. It is an Apple-specific issue.

I will not go into a tirade about Apple and the fact that iMessage is their default messaging protocol (and how it seems deliberate that they have a protocol which cannot communicate across different platforms) but I'll let somebody else do that. :-)

When you say you asked your iPhone friends to turn off their iMessaging, do you mean disable the service completely so that they can't even use iMessage with other iPhone users? I hope not because that sounds very extreme just to be able to communicate with someone that has an Android phone.

No. By turning off iMessages, their phone simply defaults to standard SMS protocol, which we all use. They can still message other iPhone users without issue.

Oh, ok, so by turning if off, it effectively uses SMS as the default send method UNLESS the intended recipient has an iPhone, in which case it will use iMessage, is that correct?

I was told to tell each iPhone user to update my contact info and turn

imessage off for me. That's almost impossible. I'm a sales rep and use text

a lot. The point is Verizon should have told me about this issue before I

bought the phone

I turned off iMessages on the phone itself. Then once I got all the info

off the phone I turned it off and removed the sim card. I immediately

called Apple and had them de- register my number. Also took my number off

the apple page. It still took a whole day to start getting texts. Make sure

you don't have another Apple device such as an ipad or something using

iMessages. Good luck.

P.S. stay at from LifeProof cases for the galaxy. They are terrible! !!!

Did you UN-register your phone from I tunes? If you did give it 30 days till it works. Apple needs to recognize that you're no longer an Iphone user. This happen to me too. In the meantime tell your contacts to turn off the Imessage. I know it's a pain in the ass. I waited 30 days and it worked for me.

As I stated I did unregister from iTunes and called Apple support. It only

took 24 hours for it to correct. If it took you 30 days, somebody didn't

do something right.

Thanks for doing all of those steps. Is she able to send out text messages to the iPhone users without any problems? One thing that I would also suggest is to have her delete all the text message threads in your message box. I would advise that the people she is trying to have a text conversation with do the same thing on their phone as well. Start a new thread and see if she is able to send and receive text with out any issues. Keep us posted.

Thanks for suggesting providing additional time. I know how important it is to get those messages flowing; however, the number has to be un-registered completely from Apple. In addition, a text message to 48369 including the word STOP may help with this.

Why does Apple or Verizon not know the answer to this question?! I spent hours with both and the solution is simple.

Yes, do the Apple ID unregister thing but that isn't all -

Anyone using the newest Apple software on their iPhone will still not be able to text you until the iPhone user changes the setting on their messages and sets their phone to send as an SMS message with iMessage isn't available. It is an easy fix and I would bet your texting will be back within minutes.

My wife has now had her Galaxy 4s for over a month now, and she had apple deactivate her iMessage account over a month ago. She also removed her iPhone from her iTunes. SHE IS STILL NOT RECIEVING SOME TEXTS FROM SOME IPHONE USERS. She has done every single step possible. I am not quite sure how Verizon/AT&T/Sprint are all OK with Apple holding their service hostage. Tons of people that are paying for a service are not receiving texts because Apple is intercepting them and trying to send them as iMessages to people that no longer have iPhones. How is this OK!?

Thanks for doing all the steps on the device to try to get these messges to come through. Is she able to send out text messages to these people with out any issues? Has she been able to delete the convo threads with the people she is not getting messages from? I would also suggest if you can get those people to even delete the convo thread in their phone from her. This way you can start off on a clean slate. Keep us posted.

Just an update. It's been over a month. Nothing is resolved. They can't fix the imessage issue. I asked to be able to trade in the phone for another iPhone. Nothing they could do. Apple can't figure it out. Nothing they could do. Verizon is pathetic and I will gladly cancel and pay the termination tomorrow. This is ridiculous. I should have kept everything worn at&t. I wouldn't advise anyone to go to a galaxy from an iPhone. Verizon customer service is pitiful at best. I'm sure at&t will appreciate the business.

Thanks for following up, JPSchulte. I'm terribly sorry to hear that you're still not receiving messages. It looked like back on March 3rd that the issue was resolved after speaking with Apple Support. Did the issue reappear?

I have the same problem. I have:

1. Changed my password on Apple (as told to do)

2. Texted STOP to 48369 (as told to do)

3. Called Apple Support and had my ID, email address and anything to do with me deleted.

I am still not able to get text messages from iphone users.

The iPhone users also need to send the messages to you as SMS, NOT iMessages. If you were all exchanging iMessgaes, then it's likely some are still set to send to you as iMessage.

Customers who have switched from an iOS device (iPhone/iPad) and previously used the iMessage service may experience issues sending/receiving SMS/MMS messages with other iOS device users.You will need to deactivate the iMessage service within your Apple account to restore normal SMS/MMS functionality (Sounds like you have done this already). Depending on network traffic, it may take some time for the iMessage deactivation to complete.

They should be able to go in and shut this off under messages, should have a setting about using iMessage where available or something to the tune of that. Once this is toggled off, your problem is likely fixed.
