Why am I getting random signal losses with data connection loss?

I just switched from a BB10 to Droid Maxx a month ago and have been experiencing this from that time. Never had this problem with the BB.

Most of the Verizon connection in Brookings is 3G still, but is 4G from one tower north of town.
