Premium Visual Voice Mail automatically reads message aloud on my Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

When I open a premium visual voice mail message that was converted to text, it automatically starts playing aloud. The point of the voice to text feature is to be able to read it without necessarily playing it aloud.There should be a way to set the default to not play until I press the play button. If there is, how? If not, when?

You're right! The point of voice mail to text is so you can read them discreetly. Do you use a Bluetooth with your Note 3 or have a headset connected? Does this happen every time?
