Why does my GS4 freeze every time I send or recieve a group message?

Every time I send or receive a group text, my phone freezes. No response from any buttons; there is nothing I can do but wait. VERY time consuming to use group messaging. I'm not using a 3rd party messaging program, I've tried clearing the cache, restarting the messaging program, restarting the phone, resetting the phone, nothing works. Problem has existed ever since I've had the phone, so it has nothing to do with the update. Anyone else having this problem? Any ideas?

Lets get that device to defrost, antclis! Does this only happen while in a group message? Is your device lacking memory?

Have you tried to do a soft reset or a hard reset on the device?

It only happens while in a group message. The phone should not be lacking memory, as I have very few apps installed. I've tried a soft reset, but am hesitant to do a hard reset because of losing what apps and personalization I do have.

I installed the Verizon Messages app, and it seems to work better. But I don't like the design/features of the app, so I don't want to have to use it.

Thank you for the information. We understand the reserve in doing a factory reset, but all information, including apps, should be saved to your google account. The reset would help clear any harmful trailbits that may be lingering. We suggest trying this and updating us on the results.
